The Invisible Man (2019) is freaking awesome. Creepy, intelligent, modern... what more do you want?
Regardless... or... irregardless... we still went looking for sins and found some, like we normally do.
Remember, no movie is without sin; which movie's sins should we count next?!

Everyone would have been slightly confused, think they bumped into something else, or that it was their imagination, and went on with their lives. How many times have you "tripped on nothing" in your life, and we all laugh at you being a clutz? People would not have figured it out, and chalked it up to something else entirely.

The reason she assumes the "invisibility" idea so quickly is, because she knew how great he was in optics. She even states he was already working on an invisible suit at one point at well.

One thing this movie did well was showing the fear and control that Adrian had over Cecelia's life. You actually feel like you're her. Even when she's "alone" you feel Adrian's presence too because he was that controlling. For those two hours, you feel him in your life like she felt him in hers and that is terrifying.

@@alimunnaharsetu9415 It depends on the type of abuser. Many abusers are classified as different types depending on their behavior. The movie sucks. It treats the viewer like they are stupid. It is full of tropes. The main character (Elizabeth Moss) is a HORRIBLE actor (she overacts EVERYTHING), the invisible man's breath ruins the suspense, the shootout at the police station is ridiculous. So many plot holes. And the buildup in the beginning in which the chick pulls the bottle of drugs out from under the bed just to look at it, then look at the glass, then swish it around.... Jesus, soooo juvenile. The only redeeming quality of this movie is the cinematography. This will definitely be in the Walmart $5 for 2 bin if it isn't already.

The thing about the scenes where they moved the camera focus away from Cecelia is that they’re meant to make the viewer think something is gonna move. It’s a cliche that you’re expecting something to move or you know something will happen because you think “oh the invisible man is there” but nothing ends up moving and you’re on to the next scene and i feel like _that_ makes the movie more eerie.

Sin 68: There were actually 2 invisible men present at that time. It’s not certain whether Tom and Adrian were working together for the whole movie, but it’s clear that they were both present in James’ house. After one of them gets sprayed and falls on the drawers, the daughter runs out of the room and gets arm barred a few seconds later. Unless Tom has super speed, there was no way he was catching up. It’s implied it was Adrian who did most of the violent acts, and it was Adrians voice speaking to Cecelia at the hospital in the car park. Again, there’s no way to know if they were both at it together throughout the whole film, but they were both in James’ house when Tom got shot. Adrian of course managed to escape

What we see as the audience is not always what is actually happening. We are following the story from Cecelia's perspective, which means that, if she was crazy and doing all those things on her own while actually believing that Adrian was alive and stalking her, it would make sense for us to see that scene as her being far away from the daughter, but in reality it actually being Cecelia slapping her. Just my two cents. However, there were stupid things, yeah, like the sister believing her email, like some people mentioned in other comments. This particular one is just one that could maybe be explained away in some fashion.

Emily was easily the worst character in the entire movie. She'd be the family member where you'd walk in, throw up on the floor, double over in pain, and start screaming for the hospital, and all she'd do is go "What's wrong with you?" There's oblivious, and then there's "strawman character" oblivious.

In that actual scenario any rational person would shift positions, try to stand up or use their opposing hand and arm to gain control. But the rest of his body remained totally still. He didn't yell or anything. In the restaurant scene when he made it appear like she sliced her sister's throat it was very quick and done in one swift motion. But when she makes it look like he slit his own throat there were clearly several seconds of struggle between them. I mean I liked the movie but c'mon.

This movie had potential, and the acting was great, but the decisions some characters make are straight brainlet moves. Like Emily immediately thinking her sister hates her. And especially in the asylum hallway scene, why the hell didn't Cecilia take one of the guards' guns and shoot Adrian when he was taking aim at the last guard? Plenty of time, non-moving target...just ruined it for me

One thing I've always been curious about with movies about invisibility, is when someone invisible eats, does the food become invisible too once it's in their mouth and being swallowed, or can you still see it going down a space of "thin air" and then sitting in the middle of the "thin air" as it digests in the invisible person's stomach? Invisibility movies never seem to show that either way
@mr.o467
@mr.o467 3 жыл бұрын
In this movie he wears a suit so either way you can't see it. But I say you can't see the food, because it's inside the person, if you could see the inside of the person then you should be seeing their organs too, also I feel like the outside is invisible so that's the only thing that matters
@alvexok5523
@alvexok5523 2 жыл бұрын
@@mr.o467 That's true. And you can't see their organs or anything inside of them. And now that I think of it, most invisibility movies have shown the invisible person eating things like, for example, an apple hanging in mid air and then bites from the apple suddenly appearing with a crunch sound but nothing seen from the parts of the apple bitten off, the parts bitten off simply immediately dissapear. So pretty much food automatically becomes invisible as well as soon as it's bitten from the invisible person's mouth, and that's the route most invisibility movies have taken with that now that I thought about it some more

The opening of this movie is perfection. Wasn't really interested in this movie based on trailers, but the first couple of minutes immediately sets the tone of the entire movie. I also love that they don't make the character out to be dumb and idiotic like most horror or suspense movies. She's already a bit paranoid so she catches that something is off early on, and she's always coming up with genius plans of setting up traps. So many times in these types of movies I lose the suspension of belief because they don't do this or that when it's obvious that they should. Never had that with Cecilia. Only things that somewhat took away my suspension of belief was everyone being quick to disown her over an out of character act, cameras only catching her being crazy but none of the acts that the brothers do, and the damaged suit functioning perfectly suddenly when guards come in, but it very quickly would bring me back in with the amazing editing and long takes. 9/10.

I hated the other characters. They had a close friend/family member obviously distressed by something, usually very specific situations like "There's someone in that chair" or "there's someone RIGHT THERE" and they can't even rhetorically walk over there to wave their hands in the area just to go "Cecelia look, everything is fine, I'm actively proving to you that everything is fine and you can destress." I've had friends with similar paranoia (not like...my ex faked his death after inventing an invisible suit and is now tormenting me, but "I think there might be something in there") and even if you disbelieve it it's legit the easiest thing just to clear the room and go "well if it's in here, it's a massive bitch cuz I'm right here..." Oh but then I guess the movie would've ended an hour earlier. Need stupid characters to be stupid for plot reasons.

In that case, Elisabeth Moss did a great job (as she usually does). The title of the movie is a double entendre as Adrian was a highly intelligent, but emotionally codependent individual lack of personality unless somebody controlled them. For a long time into their adulthood, that was Tom, his brother. At some point Cecilia discovered that she can have a "normie" life, going to college, marry the guy who treats her right (James), or she can latch herself onto Adrian and take his life over. Cecilia, until the end did a convincing job of being a victim of circumstances (which for the record many people in these situations genuinely are), when in fact it was Tom who crossed her plans by donning the second suit and actually terrorizing her. What we saw did happen, only she wasn't traumatized, as sociopaths don't register trauma. James, her daughter, her sister whom she wanted dead for personal vindictive reasons all had to believe that the girl who always cried wolf, this time, was genuinely a victim.

@@ErebosGR I honestly don't know if that would have been the right route either. I think what would have truly made this movie special is if they had left it unclear the entire time. The movie is shown to us through Cecilias perspective, so whenever she is alone or no one looks in her direction, what we see could be Cecilia being an unreliable narrator, who thinks that certain acts (like her getting harmed or her sister getting killed) are being carried out by an invisible Adrian, hence we as audience see them that way, when really she is unknowingly doing these things herself. A few alterations to some scenes, so that the existence of the suit isn't objective anymore, and this could have essentially become the horror-version of Inception in terms of open endings that leave you mauling the movie over in your mind long after it has ended.

TheMike0088 I personally think that the movie’s choice to show that Adrian was doing the things he was doing was the right choice. When it comes to abuse and domestic violence, it’s very difficult for the victim to be believed, and their story is often discredited or cast aside. This regularly leads to people getting away with psychological abuse like this. Because of that, the movie needed to show that Cecilia wasn’t crazy and that she was still being manipulated and abused by Adrian. This is the story we needed and I’m glad it was told the way it was.

To an unstable psychopath, using it to torment someone they loath would be considered "good use". If you have the mindset that someone you know is as deserving of having their life ruined as a criminal, then that is justification enough for the villain. Obviously a sane person would use it for greater benefit, whether it be evil or good, but an insane person would use it for what they believe to be a greater benefit, when in fact it is not

We're shown earlier in the movie that she has a secret place to hide stuff, she hides her go-bag in a place he didn't find before and because he was so focused on her he probably never think to look for it. Plus we're shown the brothers are both using the suits so he most likely had multiple copies for them to use and we're shown they can be damaged. I like to believe when he gets paint on him they swap and the brother comes in(because he is so violent without care, while the boyfriend is more of a creeper and likes to mentally destroy her) to throw her around while the ex goes home to change suits and clean the other. That's why a missing suit wouldn't draw much attention compared when she's in the house and investigating their invisible antics.

ethan Yep, what Big Blue said. I don’t know where you got the idea that the machine actually “made” another suit on the fly. The movie clearly showed that all she did was retrieve the suit she hid. There are only two suits in the movie as far as she is concerned. The original comment is not asking that, but rather why such a obsessive person like Adrian didn’t suspect she had obtained/hid the suit somehow.
