One sin for the fact that Vogel gets hit in the nuts and immediately fights back like nothing happened but when gets kicked by Lara a few seconds later gets stunned and one more sin for the fact that Richard has a picture of a Trinity woman but failed to recognize that is was his assistant, even though he managed to find Himiko out of nowhere.

10:23 It definitely was designed to keep people in. Lara stepped on it, but it was the guy behind that got impaled. Meaning, it was timed so that when someone was leaving the tomb, they'd step on the tile, keep walking out, then get impaled. If it was designed to keep people out, the spike would have triggered ahead of Lara.

I had such high hopes for this movie. The base material gave them so much to work with and yet they managed to turn Matthias from a brutish cult leader into a squirrelly man working for trinity, that was only mentioned in a gps cache ONCE in the 2013 game. Nothing about how Lara and her crew wrecked on the island and couldn’t leave because the spirit of Himiko cursed the island. There was just so much potential wasted

TheRManProds yes that’s the problem. It was based on the 2013 game but changed almost everything about it to where it wasn’t so enjoyable. They took out key characters and changed the rest of them to where they were early unrecognizable

This movie is based on the game just as much as Mamma Mia is an accurate portrayal of life in Greece (although the title is in Italian, so why the fuck is it called that?). The game plot was completely different from the movie, because it used a supernatural element that was far more interesting and original than the bullshit realistic explanation they used in the movie (i.e. a plague). They probably though the CGI required to tell the proper story was too expensive so they rewrote the whole story to make the shooting cheaper, so they wouldn't lose too much in case the movie was a flop. Well, guess what? By doing that, you pretty much made sure it was a flop. Congrats, you played yourselves, producers! FFS, this movie credits 4 (!!!) screenwriters. What the fuck did they do all day? Because they sure as hell weren't writing a good movie...

The video game did it better. In the game, Himiko was a queen that had the ability to control the weather. After she died and was entombed on the island where she is guarded by her Undead Stormguard(the oni). Her curse on the island made it so anyone who came would never be able to leave. In the 1940s Imperial Japan set up several bunkers and a large base on the island that eventually became a forgotten warzone after WW2, littered with corpses of Japanese military. Present day- Mathias and several other people crash on to the island in a plane. Mathias starts a cult known as the Solarii Brotherhood, who worship queen Himiko. Lara Croft and her friends on the Endurance crash in a sea storm near the island and are stranded on the island. Mathias captures Lara's friend Sam (a descendant of Queen Himiko) to perform a ritual to transfer the Queen's soul into Sam and bring Himiko back to life but in Sam's body. Lara interrupts the ritual, kills Mathias, and himiko's soul is brought to peace, ending the curse.

The movies suck because they are trying to tying thing even thou it doesnt need to be, they should hide everything do they really need to reveal trinity so early in the series, just send Lara to do random stuff like in the game and cause an accident and boom good story with good tomb raiding.

My issue with the movie were two key things One: the fact that her father was indeed alive. Yes it's interesting to see the father daughter dynamic put through the ultimate test to the death but to be honest I feel like it held back her potential. Her father being dead in the game gave her a unfathomable amount of determination to avenge her father and prove he wasn't nuts. Two: It gave Himiko the same plot twist of Uncharted. The first Uncharted had the same plot twist of El Dorado. The bad fall back of this is: If they made a movie based off the first Uncharted game for anyone who's seen this Tomb Raider movie and not played the Uncharted game, they're going to assume they ripped off the plottwist from Tomb Raider. Idk. I'm bored

the...villain does have a motivation...he monologues about it when we first meet him... he doesn't get to see his family again until he gets this bio weapon for trinity.

10:27 He deduced that by the fact that when the trigger was stepped on, the trap was sprung behind it instead of ahead of it, based on the direction they were heading. A trap is kinda pointless if you've already passed the deadly part when you hit the trigger.

Oooh, that's a good point that I didn't notice when I watched it. I was only half paying attention so I was wondering why when they opened the door on the colour puzzle one guy was waiting there. However, why is the colour puzzle on the door leading back inwards instead of outwards?

Jeff Scott ~ The whole room was the trap, remember. The puzzle pieces were all over. The puzzle itself being on the inwards-leading door just made it that much harder, having to cross the empty floor again to go through the outwards-leading door. Doomy McDoomerson ~ IIRC, that was a double-sided trap. He either had to run ahead of the boulder to get out, and risk being crushed, or avoid being crushed but be trapped inside the cave with no way out.

Is anyone going to say it? They Scooby doo'ed Tomb Raider... lol. Whole premise of TR is 1.Something appears as supernatural 2.Lara is skeptical & overcomes huge adversities and tries to find the truth 3.Lara finds the truth which is supernatural and overcomes evil. But in Scooby doo 1.Something appears as supernatural 2.The gang investigates 3.Bad guy is making fools out of everyone and the whole situation if completely logical and non supernatural. Sooo... They Scooby doo'ed Tomb Raider...

Only one problem. In Scooby-Doo movies, monsters and ghosts are real. The two live action movies. Zombie island The reluctant werewolf Boo brothers Alien invaders The witches ghost The goblin king ... the list goes on. The 13 ghosts of Scooby-doo series also has real ghosts.

I’m glad, the supernatural stuff is ridiculous. There’s more realism in this movie than other tomb raiders which is great. Laura is what, 110lb? So it makes sense that she would have a very difficult time fighting men, which she does. I appreciated that, “god mode” action movie characters who are OP, particularly beautiful women who can somehow manage to defeat well trained much stronger men isn’t interesting at all. I can’t suspend the disbelief.

Lara gets her butt kicked by a random female sparring partner, but a mercanary bigger than her she beats... Maybe they bad guys should have hired that sparring partner to take down Croft. Also, I hated Lara in the first act of the movie. It's a bad way to start the movie. "Oh, poor Lara... set to inherit a ton of money, but instead does silly bike races." Also, I didn't realize how much it was like the Last Crusade. I get that it's in the same genre, but even down to the diary/journal thing...

For a movie made after the rebooted franchise’s first game of the Tomb Raider, it sure changed a lot of the plot details and got heavily inspired by the first Uncharted game, which copied the Tomb Raider concept, but had original plot. Like wtf dude, I feel like I am watching a recap of Uncharted with Lara instead of Natan.

because hollywood shit on the lore of tomb raider. they make there own stuff. lara is thin like hell she has no kurves no power and more she is not rich in this movie what the fuck. in every game lara croft is rich she does what she wants, and she is is not thin like an skeleton, she has power and she knows what she is doing and believe in that. she is no little poor girl that must work to get money. even in the new games of tomb raider lara croft is still lara croft not some little poor girl.

They changed too much parts of the story and added bullshit that was far from necessary. Not to mention that the game starts off with them crashing onto the island with the boat. This whole beginning is stupid and useless. Not surprised they failed yet again with making a proper video game movie.

@UnicornInTheUniverse by adding mainly meaningless connections? The game this is based on includes way more characters that shows different aspects of Lara's life before she starts raiding tombs. It makes for better backstory than simply having her biking around delivering -- sure that tells us how she'd rather have shitty jobs than admitting her father is probably dead to gain the family money and lead a comfortable life, but it would've been so much better with both.

They went for the easy route. To make the movie similiarly to the game they would have to reflect the game's constant atmosphere of danger, the whole vibe of the island that was so creepy etc. instead they made another boring action flick that everyone will forget in a day after watching it.

This movie wasn’t great, but it was fairly adventurous and that’s what I liked about it. Alicia Vikander did a solid job in a not so solid movie. She dedicated herself to the role and I think she did really good. The stunts were entertaining and there were a few other good moments too. Unfortunately, for some reason..video games just have a hard time being made into movies. I hope one day they’ll change that. Actually...I don’t. Video games are LONG stories.. IF they have to be made into anything, make it into a TV show so you have time to tell the whole story during the season rather than in a movie that’s less than two hours. But...at the same time, it is cool to see these on the big screen. It’s a tough call. Just my opinion.

I mean, not...really... What was the plot of the Tomb Raider reboot again? Lara got stranded on an island following in her dads footsteps and some dudes tried to sacrifice her friend to revive some goddess right? That doesn't sound terribly complex. Sure, if you tried to stuff an entire series worth of lore into one movie, it would inevitably fail, but the only games with long drawn out plots are story driven games and JRPG's. The former have never gotten a movie adaptation as far as I know, and the latter usually get an anime if anything.

I really don't understand the choice they made with this movie. In the game Himiko really has supernatural powers. She's actually trapped in a decaying husk, and all shipwrecks around her island are her lashing out at being trapped. Tomb Raider has always had supernatural elements. Why make inaccurate unbelievable science instead. People roll their eyes at that. You tell people, "She's a magic queen!" They're like, "Ok tell me more." You tell people, "See it's actually a supervirus, but the queen is immune so she's just a carrier. The ancient Japanese didn't understand these things so they only thought it was magic." They're like ...zzzzzz...z.zzzz. "Isn't that kind a racist? Why you think Japanese people were stupid?" zzzzz.zzz.zz.z

I have no problem if you want supernatural elements in a Tomb Raider movie but ancient people did believe mental and physical ailments had supernatural causes. It's not racist to depict that _historical fact._ Hell, many Japanese believed their emperor was a deity until they lost WWII. Learn some history kid.

TheGkmasta still, tomb raider needs supernatural. Otherwise it would just be Lara leading a team of archeology students to an ancient ruin, do some digging and dusting, examine every single item or detail until there is nothing to examine, then write a paper about it. The only reason they don’t do that is because Lara knew that magic exist.

Kind of racist of them to assume that being Japanese is meant to be the reason Himiko's people thought it was supernatural, instead of realising that ancient cultures all over the world said "magic" to explain these things. This is not a new concept.

I'm more annoyed by the fact they actually stole the twist of the first Uncharted game, which was that the golden idol was a coffin for a supervirus that made zombies. So yeah it gets even worse when you realise that by taking out Tomb Raiders supernatural elements they literally made it into Uncharted.

10:26 He deduced that because the spike erupted from the floor at a delay from the pad, indicating that it meant to kill people headed towards the exit. The more sinful thing here is that the trap didn't expect people to stop and wonder why the tile sunk into the floor in the first place, thus making the spike erupt in front of them, warning them. 11:27 No you wouldn't. No point trying to make us think you would. Don't mistake me guys, I like this channel. But Jeremy has gotten me into the habit of sinning his sins.

Alicia Vikander was a fan of the video game series growing up. Alicia Vikander put on a lot of muscle to play Lara, as she wanted the character to be as realistic as possible and also did some of her own stunts. Currently the highest rated video game adaptation on Rotten Tomatoes. At the end of the movie, it is revealed that "The Order of Trinity" is based in Sweden. Director Roar Uthaug is Norwegian, and Alicia Vikander is Swedish.

I've seen a lot of VG films, the first Tomb Raider movies were passable, Prince of Persia was enjoyable, Mortal Kombat is my guilty pleasure (also the Resident Evil movies aren't bad! Fite me 1v1!) also yes, I loved the Silent Hill movie, the second one was a bit too silly but not really the worst thing ever... but anyway, usually video game film have the same settings as the games but very different plots. This movie used the same plot but changed things to make it worse for some reason...

Obviously nobody who made this played the latest TR games, neither did the people who made assassins creed or the prince of Persia.
