War for the Planet of the Apes was one of 2017's best action films, despite there being as much scenery & talking as there was action... maybe even more. But hey, even a planet of apes has sins. Therefore...
Thursday: Holiday sequel sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

Here's somethign to nitpick while you wait. The war was Ceasers fault. First he banned the humans from Ape territory without asking what they were there for in the first place, leaving the humans with the choice to just declare war immediately or risk sending some poor sod in to try and explain it to them. But even after the humans already put the effort in to trying to resolve things peacefully by sending someone in to try and explain it he just dismisses the idea of trying to explain Koba to the humans and just announces that war is inevitable.

Here comes the knitpicking. Let's address each point of yours. "The war was Ceasers fault. First he banned the humans from Ape territory without asking what they were there for in the first place." The first thing the humans did was shoot one of his apes unprovoked. Imagine a patrol of soldiers marching into a foreign land and shooting a foreign nation's prince. The ape that was shot was the child of one of the most important apes. " But even after the humans already put the effort in to trying to resolve things peacefully by sending someone in to try and explain it he just dismisses the idea of trying to explain Koba to the humans and just announces that war is inevitable." I don't think we watched the same movie. Koba was immediately hostile to the humans and was completely closed off to the idea that the humans could be partnered with. There was nothing Ceaser could have said to make Koba believe that a partnership with the humans was a good idea. ESPECIALLY after Koba saw that the humans were preparing for war. Koba even withheld this information from Ceasar as he plotted. There was no way Caesar could possibly stop the war. Nothing he could have said or done could have mitigated the situation. Koba was going to start the war no matter what because the humans, no matter what, would try to get the the energy plant, even if it meant going to war with the apes. And once Koba saw that the humans were willing to go to war, Koba's mind was made up. He would betray Ceasar. It was just a matter of time. Let's not forget that the reason Caesar banned the humans from the energy plant is because of how dangerous the humans were, who also, essentially, violated a peace treaty by bringing guns into Caesar's kingdom, AROUND HIS CHILDREN, and then physically assaulting the King's child. Like...jesus. Even Cinerama sins pointed this out. There was nothing Caesar could have done differently to stop the war. It was inevitable.

Not to mention the fact that Bad Ape even exists. Why the hell do we have a comedic relief in what was built up to be the most tragic movie in the trilogy? As he said in this vid, the first two worked because they were different, doing the impossible and still keeping you hooked. This is literally a prison break with monkes. Nothing more, nothing less.

Exactly. Apes only have a chance to win the war thanks to a new mutation in the virus (potential throwback to the original). Even then, why would the virus develop in such a way...? I'm glad this series is seemingly over, because after the first movie, they appeared to lose their way, in terms of storytelling and quite frankly, warfare realism. I don't need them to be 100% accurate to what war looks like, but when an ape can ride around on the only horse in site, with two (literal) machine guns, firing wildly and hitting numerous targets he's not even aiming at, all the while, not being hit by a single round.... I gotta say... "What?". Cool 360 camera shot, though. The first movie had a horrendous battle at the end, but at least the story was compelling. I can't really say that for the two that followed.

This is the first movie you've sinned that I've worked on! : D Here's some addendums: 1) The traitor apes were actually called Turncoats, even though the only ape who wears a coat is Bad Ape, and he ain't no traitor! Trapes sounds like something Harvey Weinstein came up with. 2) Andy's face wasn't mo-capped, a bunch of animators copied his (amazing) performance onto Caesar's face. That's two sins for it because now the Academy is screwing over both Andy AND the animators! 3) The "dirt" is meant to be sand, meaning they'd have to cross a big desert to get to the Ape Paradise. Still doesn't mean anything, though. 4) See 2 for the Maurice bit! 5) Think you forgot to sin the fact that Nova walks INTO A FREAKING SPOTLIGHT, and the guy on the spotlight doesn't notice her! Way to put the blind guy on scout duty, Harrelson!

I felt like that sniper soldier was underdeveloped. He was spared and they kept showing him throughout the movie feeling torn and conflicted. I feel like he should've like looked at Caesar at the end and chose to not shoot him and Caesar nod to him, and maybe the soldier by Donkey do it and maybe sniper get caught in the crossfire but it would've made him more relatable and likeable by the audience and would've caused extra emotional pull. Then we'll have teo humans to emphasize with, not just Nova. It gives the movie more dimensions.

1) He wasn't showing them dirt, he was showing them sand. He mentions in the same scene that they found a desert far away from any humans where they could live in peace and safety. 2) Caesar didn't act stupidly during the attack on his hideout. Instead, he quietly alerted the other apes so they could maintain the element of surprise against an enemy who was under the mistaken belief that he had the element of surprise. It was actually quite smart. 3) The colonel missed because he was trying to fire a machine gun one handed. It's not amazing that he missed, it's amazing that he came as close as he did to hitting his target. 4) The apes use sign language but also vocalize, so it's entirely possible that they can communicate without having to look directly at each other. 5) Caesar didn't put his son under the care of a stranger. First of all, they're a community and all known to each other. Secondly, that was his other son's girlfriend. Caesar even says, "My son loved you. Now, look after his brother." 6) No, they didn't leave the little girl tied to a tree, she's with Maurice, obviously, since he's not in the camp with the other three. 7) You're right, he doesn't need the wall, and it's a poor defense against what comes later, but the movie also shows that the colonel is not an entirely rational man, although to be fair, they did hold off the attackers for quite a long time and only really lost because Caesar blew up the fuel tanks. My question is, why did the other army send the gunships in on a frontal assault instead of flanking, or attacking from the rear? 8) Nova giving the doll to Caesar actually is a parallel to when Maurice gave the doll to her. It doesn't matter if Caesar was there to see the original exchange. To her, it's a symbol of compassion. It's a nice bit of character development. 9) It seems to require a degree of effort for Maurice to speak, so that's probably why he doesn't do it more. 10) No, apes don't cry in real life, but neither do they possess intelligence comparable with humans and speak English. It's almost like this movie is a work fiction.

Give your Enemies a choice between surrender and death. If they refuse your initial offer, but try to surrender later on, kill them. Your other Enemies will be a lot more eager to Surrender right away, thus saving lives. Another example would be responding to an attack with devestating Violence. If an answer to aggression is utter destruction, would-be attackers may behave a lot more civil.

2:27 That's sand not dirt. They made it clear that they found a Desert. 2:56 Caesar didn't scream "bloody murder" here because he didn't want to alert the men with guns. He instantly made the best decision by deciding to take out the introduces silently, minimizing collateral damage of men with machine guns trying to fight their way out of the ape colony they'd infiltrated. Caesar probably saved dozens of lives with that split second decision. 3:05 Easily accessible? This place is like in the side of a mountain that you'd have to climb to get to. Caesar lives in a Jungle. I can't think of a safer place than an elevated location that requires climbing to get to. Even a cave is a bad idea because you can be smoked out. 3:30 The guy is shooting with one arm because he needs the other arm to hold on to the rope that will pull him to safety. You try firing a fully automatic rifle with one arm at a moving target and tell me how that goes. 5:24 They rescued her clearly. She was definitely going to die on her own. 7:58 I've seen about half the movies you listed and they were not like this movie. They have some vague similarities but this is a slave camp about a slave revolt. A successful slave revolt that doesn't end with all the slaves being murdered. That is VERY rare. I'd even go so far as to sin you for trying to make this lazy comparison. 8:09 Yea she did say that. She was clearly trying to lift the boulder as she made those grunting noises. She was communicating, and the apes, who live in a culture built almost entirely on non-verbal communication, would know what she is trying to communicate. Even if it doesn't translate completely into sign language, the subtitles are relaying what she is communicating successfully to the apes. This is as far as I got before just stopping to enjoy the rest of the video. Excellent work as always Cinema Sins.

We have no reason to believe he was her father. Who he was was a man about to shoot apes without provocation. In fact if Caesar hadn't jumped in when he did one of those apes would have died. Caesar shot literally at the last second. We have no idea what that man's relationship was to her. He could have been a pedophile for all we know.
