One of those shows that made Buffy relatable to the audience of it’s time. Rarely did a television show talk about living arrangements at school. If it did it was usually characters we knew. This episode was so relatable to many many Buffy viewers in the fall of 1999. Having a show about an irritating roommate was not ever done. Another one of those shows that had deeper new meaning for us. At that time, most of the colleges in Texas required Freshmen students must stay on a dorm the first semester or first year. Sorority rush might get you to a house in the second semester but usually the sophomore year. Students had to share a room with a stranger and they almost never… never had anything in common with you. Funny episode but an underlying theme that was factual. Really fun reaction

"That's a lot of elders. Can't you have youngsters as well?" LOL that definitely made me chuckle. But to answer the question, the youngsters don't have the power yet, they still have to learn the magic! So only the elders can be helpful.

Cher's "Believe" was the first song to use Autotune as an obvious effect that you could hear instead of using it for subtle pitch correction like it was originally intended.

Living Conditions, was quite and interesting episode in that it is showing Buffy going from adolescent to adult. Having now to cope with things that as a child she didn't have to deal with. I am sure that many watching it have been in similar situations when leaving home and having the share with flatmates, and being irritated by the smallest things. Again S4 was strange in that after the High School years the show had to find a new direction. A fairly decent episode, but with some great comedy moments.

Especially as an only child, no siblings to have to compromise with. 🙂

One year on campus in a dorm WAY back in 1978/79 (fall/Spring semesters). Two different roommates, but we all got along much better than Buffy and her roomy did here. By Year 2, moved off campus, ultimately began living with my then girlfriend, now wife of coming up on 43 years. College was a great time for me. And it is at least 15 of the happiest years of my wife's life! 🙂

I never really enjoyed this episode before, during, or after college. The relatability never hit me the way it people thought it would. Good thing Giles was willing to trust Buffy's slayer instincts. A soulless Buffy could and/or would have killed The Scoobies. Trust Buffy's slayer instincts, not her dating instincts, is a good motto.
@Talisguy2 ай бұрын
She was partially soulless. They weren't wrong about Buffy going insane because her soul was being sucked out, because that's a plot point. It's why the reversal spell was necessary.

@@Talisguy LOOSE NON-SPOILER SPOILER But's that's my point. That even that way she was right about her instincts. She's earned that. And she'll continue to earn that in so many different moments. I don't yrust the others in that reguard on any mythological situation.

It cracks me up that he looks like he could be Xander's stunt double, when he's supposed to be incredibly attractive and Xander isn't meant to be. I'm not saying Parker isn't a handsome guy, it just really highlights how dissonant American casting can be. Everyone has to be conventionally attractive, even when the character they're playing isn't supposed to be.
@Talisguy2 ай бұрын
@@davidmeadows5627 I get it. He's a handsome guy too. My point is that Xander's actor is too good-looking for the role, and the fact that this guy who's supposed to be a dreamboat looks almost exactly like Xander really highlights it.

Cult hit is a term for a TV show or film that has a cult following. Buffy The Vampire Slayer was on the WB Network that didn't have a lot of station affiliates across the US, not making it on the top 10 Nielsen rated shows list, but young people were talking about it at the time.
@xyex2 ай бұрын
The local network that carried WB programing on my cable service changed from a WB affiliate to a UPN affiliate around the end of season 3 or 4 of Buffy (can't remember). Shortly before the new season began the cable company announced they were dropping the UPN affiliate channel and picking up a new WB affiliate in their place. The reason? A **massive** letter campaign primarily from fans of Buffy and Charmed asking them to do something. We still missed a few episodes of the new seasons while it was finalized and stuff. But yeah, Buffy and Charmed were so big a cable company servicing tens of thousands of homes dropped a station and picked up another from further away just to keep those shows.

@@xyex I live in NYC, one of the major TV markets. So, whether you had a cable subscription or not, you got both UPN and The WB.

Even if it's soft, it's still strong enough that if you are pulling hard enough that it can apply enough force to the throat without ripping, no? Buffy also has super strength on top of that. Edit: Just tested this with a shirt, was easily able to apply enough pressure to make it start having trouble breathing with little strength and effort.
