This is just brilliant! When Host came out, I was teaching online 6 hours a day. Just the fact that it was a Zoom horror freaked me out completely.

[•REC] will always be my favorite found footage horror movie. Their take on zombies is phenomenal. It's sad that they couldn't explore it more since they fell off badly.

So I don't know if this can technically be called "found footage" but there's a 2015 film called SavageLand that I just watched on Tubi a week or two ago. The movie is basically set up as a crime documentary about an illegal immigrant being charged for killing an entire town on the border of Mexico and Arizona, since he was the only survivor of that place. Basic gist is that the poor guy gets railroaded by racist court systems and no one really questions all the evidence discrepancies. After the trial, the survivor's old camera is found and released for evidence, and there are some EXTREMELY creepy photos of what actually happened that night. The photos are beautiful and scary, and the movie is just all-around good. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something a bit different!

It seems to me that current trends help answer the question of filming. We have seen that when some car crash, or fight, or whatever happens, there are a bunch of people there recording it on their phones; they aren't helping, they aren't calling for help, they are just "documenting" whatever is going on.

I really love Ghost Watch. I know people nowadays make fun of the fact that it was banned, but I think it’s so well made and is such a fun thing for the channel to do and have well-known journalists and anchors be a part of.

@@whatthehorrorso I just got back from seeing Late Night with the Devil. I think it would count as found footage, and I kept thinking about Ghost Watch while watching it, which is a favorable comparison. So I suggest that one too if you haven’t seen it!

We'll never get to experience horror on the level we did, when the Blair witch project first came out. Everyone I knew at the time truly believed it was real. It made us question reality. Haha. People who didn't experience that fear, truly missed out. It also helped that I was a teenager that was ready to believe anything.

Woulds something like Archive 81 be considered found footage? I know the story is not told entirely through footage but it is a major plot device and exposition revealer.

I only watch unfound footage horror movies. They are admittedly pretty boring as not much is happening, but for what it's worth they do allow for a lot of speculation. Only speculation, really, but still!

Evolution? They all follow the same basic template. The only films doing anything different are the V/H/S series and all the indie filmmakers making shorts.
