Engine looks and sounds like a Cummins NT855 and the power seems correct for that too, quite a lot of shutters from this era have NT855’s however other mainline units also use them (class 150/153/155/156/158/159, however theirs is a slightly different variant, the R1/R5 which is tilted on a 30 degree angle) but still, very nice engines which give out that classic Cummins grunt!

Not often you have a loco go into preservation that only needs a minimum of work. I'm guessing they spent more time on the cosmetics than the mechanicals which would be a nice change. That said the BR green looks really. And whilst we didn't see any buses did manage a brief glimpse of a red MR2. Well done guys on another good video.

I remember these in the Dockyard. They sat on the rails just across from the syncrolift shed. I remember them getting all painted up yellow about a year before they left to go up to Lathalmond. I think they were still part of the PED (which I think stood for Port Estate Department) routine maintenance schedule until that point too so they were probably greased to within an inch of their lives.

Hi from Green Bay Wisconsin USA!! Go Packers Go!! Your narration is like mine, when I was the chieftainship tour guide here at the National Railroad Museum from 1984 to 1989. The tour included the BR no.60008 named "Dwight D. Eisenhower" for the world famous U.S.Army General of WW2, later President of the USA. Number 60008 started as LNER no. 4496, named "Golden Shuttle" in honor of the woolen textile mills, built in Doncaster near York, in September 1937, builders number 1861. The main driver are 80" inches in diameter and could run over 100 MPH!! Class A4 loco were among many designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and his team. Locos ranged in size and power from high speed passenger express locos, to fast ones for commuters to London, with freight engines both for the main and branches, plus small switchers, called shunters for factories and yards. Class A4 locos have 3 cylinders for extra power at high speed with the interior valves connected to the outer 2 with Gresley's patented Conjugated valve gear. The fastest recorded speed of an A4 was the Mallard no. 4468 that ran downhill called Stoke Bank with 6 carriages, plus a Dynamometer car, at 126 & 1/2 MPH on Sunday, July 3, 1938, a short while after 5:00 p.m British GMT. Driver Duddington, and stoker Bray, are to be highly praised for this amazing feat!! Now imagine the change when I had to describe the Union Pacific Big Boy no. 4017 articulated Mallet 4-8-8-4, with the differences between the American knuckle coupler and cowcatcher, and the British hook and links with buffers on the corners.

I worked in Rosyth with the MOD when the original Planet shunters were replaced with these locos. Soon after they arrived, the MOD stores were closed and moved to Faslane. These trains were then used to pull MK3 coaches and London Underground trains through the yard when they were being refurbished for GNER and TFL, as well as class 159 turbo sprinters for Network Southeast. They were then, like the rest of the railway system in Rosyth, abandoned until they were moved to Lathalmond. The access track to the yard is still in place and can be seen at the south side of Inverkeithing station.

Your Hunslet 9045 class, reminds me of the american Plymouth 20 ton industrial switchers for light duty. The NRRM here used to have 2 from the local power plant. Gasoline powered no. 702 was used to pull the 1956 G.M. Aerotrain 2 coaches around the circular track. Or sometimes the 1890 wooden coach from Marquette Michigan north by Lake Superior. But #702 broke down in 1987. Then sat until the 1990's when another different manager decided to have it scrapped. How irresponsible! Yet still back to your Hunslet, plus the brake van reminds me of the American Caboose with just 4 wheels nicknamed a bobber, like a fishing float. Plus with the long platforms at the ends, it is like the Green Bay and Western "transfer" caboose, made from the old frames of tenders. Like many other railroads that tried to reuse older equipment.

Mr. Lawrie, Green Bay again on Sunday morning. Packers play in Sunny Miami today. But here way up north there is rain cold and snow flurries further north. Sorry for really bad Auto-Correct, but how did if come up with "...chieftainship???". Happy to hear that you saw no.8 at NRM at York. But I saw it on KZfaq, plus in magazine " Railway". Thank you and GOD Bless all of you there who gave no.8 a 100-0/0 accurate restoration. Because back in 1985 the 8 was very dusty and weather beaten. But the NRRM was being controlled by an outside management firm, but Zero railroad experience, nor museums. So they hired a local house painting company. But the outside manager admitted to being color blind, and when the new paint was sprayed on, it came out as a combination of muddy brown and swamp green. They had planned a large dedication ceremony. There was no time left to fix it. The ceremony was covered in the newspaper and on TV. Plus I got my photos and prints. Plus the audio cassette tape of the speeches by local dignitaries. Then 2 years later the outside firm was fired, and a new manager from a Chicago museum arrived, with a much better disposition who appreciated volunteers and their efforts. In 1990 the 60008 was repainted green. But still the wrong hue, with plain yellow letters. Then it was shipped off for a trip West to Abilene, Kansas, for the 100th memorial birthday of Gen. Eisrnhower, who wrote in his autobiography, that as a young boy, he often dreamed of being an engineer on a high speed crack limited luxury Pullman Express speeding through the western prairies to some legendary city. Unfortunately, our manager from Chicago, was replaced by another fool who fired the workers, and openly insulted volunteers. He lasted only a few years. Later in 2012 was opportunity to return York for Grand Gathering 75th Anv. So 60008 was pulled out of storage shed, loaded on 2 flatcars, and shipped across Atlantic Ocn. Like giant Fed-Ex package. Properly restored at York-N.Ry.M. Exhibited 2 years, attracting tens of thousands fans. Shipped back to GB/NRRM, new green jewel like Emerald. With new display area painted like British station platform. Plus we need red British telephone booth,/ Box, with tape recording of Kings' Cross station schedules of arrivals and departures. But surrounded by rusty American trains. More to come later. Bye.

That windscreen wiper switch looks exactly the same as those used in Leyland National 1 buses, which also had air-operated wipers... The Cummins engine in that one is probably very similar to those used in the trucks that replaced it after the defence cutbacks drove the military rail system into retirement... I love the chrome or polished stainless steel trims around the lights and the little mesh stone guards, just like were used on 1960s Mini Cooper rally cars. The MoD did like a few little extras on their equipment...

Did you get any chance to look round any of the Bus Museum as well? By the way, it might be the newest standard gauge loco, but didn't you drive a brand new loco the other week on that new garden miniature railway?

@@lmm Yep. They had a place next to Sulzer ship engines and across road from Specialloid Pistons. Just round corner was Leeds Pistn Ring Co. I seem to think Hunslet actually had a short track just on Jack Lane or maybe the engines were just run on Jack Lane outside the works. Not far away was Middleton Railway track with big pieces of engines and trackside items laying about. Whole area was razed in early 70's and is now mostly huge traffic interchanges and retail park and it's hard to see Jack Lane..

First, an apology for Big mistake from last Sunday. I can't blame Auto spell. The Green Bay Packers were not playing against Miami Dolphins. Instead it was Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa Bay beat the Packers baddly at 38 to 10. Should have checked the schedule. Yet still, on the NBC TV network they had European football, (but here they say "soccer"), with Manchester but I did not see the other team. Manchester is truly connected with Liverpool because of the 1829 Rocket 0-2-2 built by George and Robert Stephenson. I want to build a brand new replica of Rocket, then tour around the U.S. Railroad museums, in time for the upcoming 200th Anniversary of the Rainhill Trials in 2029. I hope you can drive the replicas of Rocket, Trevithick, Brunnel wide guage, plus many others.
