worked at EA for a little while , we were all having a paid holiday for christmas ~2 weeks because why not its fucking christmas , we had about 1600 people in the building and then guess what happened ? 300 people got fired at the same time because the CEO for EA in our country (im not saying what country for obvious reasons) was like "nah we don't have enough money to pay an entire holiday these many people , fuck em" and just like that boom the dream i had in childhood to work at a company that makes games was over. a wake up call from reality. I can say that all the stuff the guy from ubisoft said are true and were occuring at EA also , we finished fifa 2016 on time (with bugs at usual because of we were having the same issues as the ubisoft guy too little time , no extra time even if you begged so we would finish the game bugged knowing that we would patch it in time ) didn't even celebrate properly and 2 days later we started getting e-mails regarding fifa 2017 and details like that everybody was complaing there too about extra hours. that's why now when im playing a game now i look at it differently "i wonder how many people lost their job while they developed this one" hope people see this comment.

This may be coming from a troll with nothing better to do, but I have a feeling this truly was a former Ubisoft dev telling everyone how bad it as working for the company. If this is true Ubisoft should be ashamed of themselves.

Food for thought: Masahiro Sakurai put himself through a similar hell, WILLINGLY, to get Smash Bros on 3DS and Wii U to us in as complete and timely a manner as possible. No one told him to overwork himself while dealing with RSI in both hands/wrists. No one told him to stay in the office way later than he should, testing and re-testing and retesting again to make sure things were as close to perfect as he could make them before we got our hands on it to further expose whatever flaws the roster may have. No, this man did a TON of REALLY INSANE SHIT of his own accord, to make sure we get a new entry in a series that's worth talking about for years to come. Think about that for a while. That's the difference between a company that forces, and a company that INSPIRES. Sakurai was INSPIRED to make that game his passion. No one forced him, and his passion showed through and has resulted in an incredible new entry. THAT, is how AAA games should be done.

"90% of PC gamers are pirates" I'm sorry, I don't like giving my money to a shitty company like ubisoft who doesn't take the time to port it, GTA IV was the most pirated game for so long and Rockstar knew that, but because they understand they have a fan base, or people who play on it, they take the time to create a port for PC, that includes some things that Console doesn't get as well, it's sad to say that GTA V PC maxed out will run better than ACU or FC4 on any settings.

Junoh Productions This. I tested ACU with pirated copy to see how it performs, I have no intend to play it though, because I couldn't care a less for that game, I just wanted to see the performance. I have i7-4770k and GTX 980 and I'll get like 45-60 fps on gameplay and like 35-45 fps on cut scenes at ultra high settings at 1080p, so I'm wondering what's the fuss about bad performance, sure it could be better, but the fact is that it performs better, because it's cracked to be offline. This is not first game where I have noticed this, some games are just better when you crack it even though you own it. Sometimes cracks cause games to crash and they of course create security holes.

Hence why I have so much respect for the devs that risk their well being and to see their families for us while the CEOS don't give a rats ass what the people on the bottom of the gaming pole does.

So... my brother is a wizard with code. He learned how to code in java on an advanced calculator, in the first years of high school. Oh and yes a calculator. He got a job as a coder for developing some apps from his teacher in his second year at four year college. He wanted to be a video game designer, but he did some research and learned how little you get paid, for how much you need to know, master, and do in a job. I also wanted to be a modeler for video game making, but my brother told me to never work in the industry. Its hard, unrelenting work, with extremely little pay for the amount you need to do, and it takes the love away from playing games in general. Now not all companies are like this, but it kills your love for what we as gamers like to do in our spare time.

+Objectified Cross The way it seems to be in my experience with indy games is: only about 10 out of 100 indy games will be what Id consider "good". Theres just too much really bad indy stuff out there which makes it RALLY hard to find any actual good stuff where & when it arrives. Personal indy faves I remember are: Gemini Rue, Resonance, Hydrophobia, Life Is Strange, Shadowrun Returns (and the 2 sequels), Outlast, hmmm, thats about all I can remember. I don't really like those modern indy games that try to emulate the 8-bit & 16-bit era graphics either, and they seem to be a penny a pound.

Kristoffer Henry The absolute best anti-piracy measure is to ensure consumers don't have a reason to pirate your games. Implementing hard anti-piracy measures like DRM and CD keys, ironically, just results in more piracy; Not to mention the fact you run the risk of having pirating your products being easier and faster than purchasing them legitimately.

I am personally done supporting Ubisoft, EA, Activision because of the lack of interest and respect for the customers, and all they care about is lining their, and their shareholder's pockets, while the consumer gets bent over and takes it in the ass by these customers. PC gamers are always getting shitty ass ports, and all these patches and promises of fixes are absolutely retarded. I bought the game to have a good experience, instead gotta look into these forums, or search online how to fix these retarded issues that shipped with the game. I'm done with these mainstream triple A games and companies that publish and make the games. I'm sticking to smaller indie games for a while. I will still support Bathesda, Rockstar, and 343 for now. However, Ubisoft, EA, and Activision have lost me as a dedicated customer.

The thing, if they payed their employees appropriately they would take a pretty big hit of a few million. The way their contracts work is that they give a contract to development studio that states when the game is released, how many people you have to work with, and how many hours are expected. On paper everything sounds fair. In practice, everyone has a lot less time to do things in than their should be. At the pace everyone realistically works at overtime is necessary to finish the project. Though. the contract with the company have already been made, so overtime isn't covered. It's all very legal, but it's not ethical. And it's really the fault of the studios. I know no one wants to hear it, but studios underbid each other for gaming contracts all the time. And corporations will always go with the cheaper, if unrealistic, option.

A loss of a few milion bucks for something like Ubisoft is on border of negligeble. Like.. 10% of theire profit. And what a marketing power they would get, to "show off" to the programming community that they CAN afford to respect the 8h/day 5day a week laws AND still make games

I would love to see more devs that worked for companies like Ubisoft come together and make a great game without the stress of major companies. They will not benefit via consoles, however Steam is great with indie games and the community will play it if its good. I would much rather have a game take 3 years to come out and be polished, fun, and enjoyable than a game that devs were forced to make in a year without inspiration or fun themselves. If you read this entire comment i'd like to hear what you think :)

***** I'm really regretting it, I'm stuck on a mission where I have to infiltrate this big ass building, there are guards at every entry point, and just like Far Cry 4, if they just glance at you for two seconds, then all the enemies lose their shit, and go ballistic on you.. I really wish Ubisoft would stop milking this series,I'd like to be able to pass enemies and not get harassed, you can literally get harassed by counter revolutionaries by just walking down the streets, even though you're supposed to be fully disguised (Even before you've done a crime, killed someone, etc.) Unless you've got bullet proof armor, you're fucked, they'll pull out a pistol when they're literally two feet away from you, It'd be okay if it didn't insta-kill you, I still haven't found a way to use someone as a meat shield to avoid it. You would think that having a few people in front of you would change the impact of the bullet, since they'd get the bad end of it, but no, the bullets pass right through them, and hit you directly. There's also another feature of the game, where you literally go forward in time after the french revolution, going through different portals. (That's what I'll call them I can't remember the actual name, I could give less of a fuck what they'e called.) And if this isn't done before the clock goes down, then you HAVE to leave the animus.. WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF BULLSHIT IS THIS? They brought micro transactions into the game with character customization, which is great, but forcing people to do multiplayer co-op missions to earn specific pieces of armor kind of sucks, even though they can be done alone, some of them get outrageously difficult.. Also, your guy is basically Spider-Man, and can jump from objects that are like ten feet away, he somehow just leaps a bit farther, which makes him better at parkour than Altair, Connor, Ezio, and Edward... I got sick of being insta-detected in Far Cry 4, and I was actually enjoying that game, but then I got a big "FUCK YOU." from the director by forcing me to do a stealth mission, I'd rather go into Arnold mode, and say "FUCK THE STEALTH,YOU'RE A FUCKING QUIRE BOY COMPARED TO ME, A QUIRE BOY!", and then pull out my M60 light machine gun with infinite ammo, and Rocket propelled grenades for my RPG-7.. Tired of this shit, why force your players into doing anything? It's not like, oh we can say fuck the hostages, take the anti-hero way out, and do things our own way, while completing the mission.. That's like forcing someone to eat their own shit, in order to progress further in life.. I love the atmosphere that Far Cry 4 and Unity offer, I just can't stand how I absolutely, positively have to do things the way the director, or whoever wants it according to the story line, although it's more expected with the Assassin's creed series, because it's stealthy ninja time, although the devs haven't bothered to put in a dedicated crouching button until now. I don't blame the devs, but this shit will make people hate AAA gaming more and more, which might be why Sony is trying to get more indie games onto their system.. There's no options for what route you'd take, I'd at least like the option to say "Fuck the Golden path, I'm fighting for the other side!." You know what's funny? Assassin's creed unity let on like you had a choice in helping the Assassin hacker chick, who showed you the memories of Arno in the first place, to help her.. I Got a big "FUCK YOU" with a press A to continue, sure, story progression, but what about all the shit mentioned when I was playing as a Knight in the knights Templar Wait that's DLC? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least Warner brothers gives their players free DLC, they did it with Injustice and Shadows of Mordor.. I just wish Ubisoft would finally just rename their franchises to fuck it, you'll buy it anyway, there will be tons of over priced DLC, and you'll bitch about it, and give it shitty reviews, but we'll continue to strive, because we have money, which keeps us from gaining competition, because we pay for companies to give us good reviews..

It was like that with III, and I myself had some minor BS with Rogue. Ship literally doing barrel rolls in the ocean, climbing fuck ups that never get any less annoying, and even pushed under the ship beneath the map into instant death. Granted the climbing thing was a slight problem in IV, it was as bad as III which was horrible... Never had I seen the rolling and falling through the map. I agree with how you say Ubisoft is a reason for piracy, but it's been a problem for longer than Unity.

Tobias Rieper I just hate having to watch walk through videos, I mean, yeah, it's not that time consuming to do so, and I should be able to form a pattern, but that one mission in Far Cry 4 gives you very little room, and few options, besides blowing up a vehicle, that causes a distraction.. I always thought it'd be cool doing things your own way in the Assassin's creed series, even if I failed my mission, seeing the consequences of not doing it, and doing another mission instead would be cool, but instead, you absolutely have to accomplish it, as if the Assassins never had back up plans in case someone fucked up.. I can't believe that nobody in the entire history of the Assassin order has made a mistake, that compromise their mission, and they end up getting captured, or worse.... The games are great, I'm just too stubborn to force myself to play the game the way someone else did, just to get to another part in the story.

Jiminy Cricket Oh I agree. That forced stealth mission in Far Cry 3 had me frustrated. I haven't played 4 yet, mostly waiting to have a new console before I buy any more big titles. But forced mechanics (especially in a game that markets and displays action more so than stealth), or mechanics without reasonable excuses to limit the player (an example of a passable excuse, say like, a time limit because it needs to be done at night before day break, or there's a bomb) is pretty much the anti-thesis of a game. That's a good reason why I'm being appealed more back into Metal Gear Solid and waiting for TPP. It's always stressed stealth over combat but I have yet to see it be forced in MGS. I mean I don't particularly play Rambo style but it's nice to know that if I make a mistake or oversight, I have options in combat or to even evade and disappear again... I'd rather take a small dent to my overall rank or score than outright failing that leads to frustration being force fed repetition until perfection; which usually leads to putting me off a game rather than encourage me to experiment and try new tactics.

If so many PC gamers were pirates then PC game sales wouldn't have outsold all console game sales combined. Yes some PC gamers that pirate are just outright theifs with no justification for their actions but there wouldn't be long running PC only franchises like the Sims and Total War if people didn't buy these games.

Actually some of us "pirates" do have a justification, or at least I think I do have one. I'm 16 I obviously don't have a job and I really don't feel like begging my parents to buy me videogames when we are already struggling with car insurances, rent, medicines for my father etc. I only bought a few games when they were on sale to play them online but most of my games are all pirated, I wouldn't have been able to buy them anyway so I might as well download them illegally, when I'll have a job of my own I'll start paying for them unless it's from ubisoft or other shitty game companies that make very bad ports for pc. Also I'm pretty sure most console gamers buy used games and that's just as bad as piracy since the devs don't earn anything from them.

Sentry Ward You're right, i've edited my comment to say what i meant to say in the first place: that 'some' pirates are outright thiefs, i can understand those who wouldn't buy it anyway or who want to try before they buy. I do understand you're situation, i'm not ignorant to that at all. With that said i do not agree with you on used games however, did you buy your house straight from the builder? is your car bought brand new? is everything you own first hand? I doubt it and that is complete hypocrisy. Piracy is one copy of the game either genuine or not being multiplied and downloaded potentially thousands of times! A used game is ONE genuine game that was once new being passed through multiple owners Used games and piracy are not the same thing.

Sentry Ward I have a job and I only "pirate" a game to demo the game if i'm not sure I'll like it. Money is tight and I don't want to waste it, so in the rare circumstance where a game interests me but I'm overly skeptical, I might pirate it, try it for an hour or two, and if I like it i'll buy it. If I don't like it then I'll remove all the data from my computer. I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to actually try a game for a little bit and see if it will actually be worth my money.

I've worked at a few studios. All of them worked 90 hour work weeks during crunch for 35k a year annual salary. Production crews are scared to stand up and say something because there is over a thousand fresh grads who are willing to do it for much less and work even longer. The passion that drives artists is also the weakness that AAA devs prey on. Sad to say this is very very normal in this industry.

Okay, wow. That's... pretty bad. I cant even imagine doing that. I've had a chance to participate in indie development a few times now (as a contractor to a specific indie dev team), and every experience with that has been very positive. Everyone's friendly, and they're not obsessed with deadlines: They just want the results of the work to be GOOD. That's all that matters. I work on my stuff when I bloody well feel like it, not on some hyper-specific daily schedule (again, nobody cares HOW I get the results: just that I get them). If on a particular day I just dont feel like I can do it? I dont freaking do it. And then when I AM ready, I can do my absolute best instead of droning on like some sort of zombie bee. I can put out a big blob of good stuff in one go when the inspiration is really there. And it's been just positive for everyone involved. I end up being able to do work on games that, later on, I genuinely want to keep playing (and further updating), as opposed to avoiding (which I kinda suspect alot of AAA devs do). Really, there's SO many things wrong with the AAA side of the industry. At this point, I'm completely disillusioned with it. It's very rare that I buy a AAA game anymore, because with most of them I couldnt be less interested. THere's exceptions of course, but... yeah, that side of things has fallen into ALOT of trends that I dont like. And then you get horror stories like these, over and over again... and to think, there was a time when I actually wanted to work as a developer on "major" games. **shudder** I'm really, REALLY glad I didnt go down that awful route. For shame on these big companies for doing what they do. At this point, I'd LOVE to witness a huge market crash on the AAA side. They have it coming, and the industry really could use a shakedown right now.

As a primarily PC gamer I've been burnt enough times by piss poor console ports and poor optimisation to pirate games as a matter of first course. Although I am of the minority I always buy the games that I enjoy on Steam or whatever platform. Piracy for me is an opportunity to test the product on my computer before buying. There are a lot of games that I pirate, play ten minutes of it and uninstall, never to be played again. When I was younger we had magazines with playable demos on for PC games, which would give us the first mission or say 30 mins gameplay so that we could make an informed choice. These days we're almost demanded to pre order games to get the 'full' experience. I say, fuck you developers. I'm not pre-ordering a product I have little to no information about. I'll continue to pirate your games and if you want my money? MAKE A GOOD FUCKING GAME.

Remember a time when game developers were honest, passionate groups of people that saw games as more than just "products"? People who made sure than when you bought their games, you'd buy the whole thing with no strings attached. Today's developers are just a bunch of corporate scumbags that are being fondled by the sycophantic gaming press selling their own intergrity faster than all the half-hearted shovelware crap they keep throwing at us. Being someone who grew up with an NES, I fully sympathize with you. Piracy is not a crime when buying a legitimate product is the equivalent of giving a thief your money just to save him the trouble.

Remember back when games were released on the PS2 or earlier consoles, and almost every single time, they worked. Sure, you would find a glitch or bug, but, if anything, they were to be explored for and sometimes just funny. You got an entire game that you paid for, with no BS DLC. You also didnt have to worry about companies just saying " screw it. Release it, then patch it. I truly miss those days.

Fields that are heavily unionized are usually pretty good, but become a stagnant cesspool. Fields like these where there are no unions and is highly competitive, workers get taken to the cleaners. With regards to what is happening is a gray area. They're most likely contract which means there is a set pay for them and they have to fulfill their obligations. However, their contract demands too much. Unfortunately, their field will never successfully unionize because it is ultra-competitive and full of people willing to work for nothing.

I'm one of those people that if the game took 10 hours to complete I would do it over 2-3 weeks instead of a few days like other people so I usually torrent the game play about 1-2 hours over a few days and then decide how I feel and if I like it I will go on steam and get it. I think I have the right to do that because why should I pay money for a game that cant even run properly ex AC Unity? That is pretty much scaming users out of their hard earned cash and unlike some people I'm not able to ask my mum to buy me the new cod every time one comes out I have to EARN my money and then buy it my self so I would rather know what I am buying before I buy it so I watch reviews and I play the game for my self a bit before making the decision if its worth my money or not and if its not then I wont even have the intention to complete the game anyway.

This makes me think a lot about the release of Battlefield 4. DICE probably worked their asses off to make a great game and were simply rushed. ***** Nintendo is tryng a much different strategy with this sort of thing, they're realy betting on the indie developers, i mean go and wtahc the lastest Direct where they talk about how much they consider indie devs as part of a "family" of sorts, on the 3ds&wii u e-shop new indie games pop-up faster than steam green-light, If another crash happens here are the 4 ways of gaming that won't be affect at all(i believe so atleast), 1 - the Wii U, 2 - the 3DS/N3DS, 3 - the Nvidia Shield family(expeacialy the tablet), 4 - PC & Steam Nintendo & Valve are supporting indie devs like no one else, the Shield family because it realy *is* a sneak peek at the future of gaming and PC gaming because well i don't have to explain it...

I dunno if it'd crash the way we're all familiar with-- after all, there are a slough of indie studios out there who're much more flexible than other companies of the Atari era, and with crowd funding platforms like patreon (not necessarily kickstarter), studios with proven quality can get fans to fund the games they want to produce. That said, I'm all for another crash to shed the deadwood. . . Yes, it'd be tumultuous and yes, people will loose their jobs and it's going to be horrible, but it'd force producers and consumers to think differently about the medium and what can be done with it.

@AndrewStClair-gp6cg
@AndrewStClair-gp6cg 9 жыл бұрын
Christopher Bell No you don't. You can be labeled something without actually having the traits required to be labeled it, just as you can have the traits necessary to be labeled something, but not be labeled it. For example, Ted Kennedy is now considered to be a great man, regardless of the fact that he got drunk, drove his car into a pond and ended up drowning a young lady who was in the car with him. Not only that, but he left the scene and didn't report it to the police until the next morning, after the police had already discovered the car and the dead woman inside. People still say he was a great man, regardless of all that. So, you can be labeled something, even when you're not that. And I know that 99% of PC gamers don't care about games because I've never seen them talk about their love of videogames, of gameplay, or just general entertainment they get from playing games. What you get from PC gamers is endlessly going on about 1080p and 60 frames per second. That's it.

Dedicated Gamers are the ones who really care, but we've moved into the generation of casual gamers and there is more money to be made with a game that holds your hand. I'm so disappointed in the industry right now, there passions in the money not the game. Exception: Alien Isolation very surprising to see game cater to skill and take the time to get the story right, but every other game this year has been shit... At least from what I've seen

It's also very hard to get work in this industry. In some cases it can be a dream job, but in many cases also it can be slave labor, again always with the stupid hierarchy where the guys on top talk bs politics and don't contribute at all who make all the money. Indie is def the preferred method for a growing number, both consumer and developer. The problem there is funding and manpower. It can be hard to make a game with no money and only 1-3 people passionate enough to put that kind of work into something. I have a BS in game art and design, never managed to land a job. Would still embrace the opportunity, but these horror stories seem prevalent especially for entry level employees. It is sad because it is supposed to be one of those cool jobs where everyone is passionate and enjoys what they do. This corporate world has to go already!

Most openings for developers are actually contracts. I think for the most part they get an hourly wage, or set amount for the work required. That can be a way, and some people do that. Ideally, I would like to get in with a good company and stay. Build a team, a family, make games, have fun. I think that's more possible on the indie side. Big developers seem just as bad at McDonalds and Walmart. It's okay if your at the top, but shit roles downhill and the low level guys are smothered in it :(

Then someone other kid with hopes and dreams take his place...

+Anthony Sgambati Contracts like that are the major problem. AAA companies have been spoiled by internet prevalence and that's let the accountants have their precious fiscal projections so that BA degree meant for tangible products like cars and computers can be applied to entertainment products in a desperate attempt to make the risk of entertainment products more predictable and therefore appealing to investors. Because companies exist to cater to investors, now. Not customers. CEOs relate better to shareholders, after all. They're equally just in it for the money and have no personal stake in the product itself. Because relying on people who expect you to give them two dollars for every dollar they give you is a totally sustainable system and reasonable source of income, according to most CEOs. Apparently.

More and more I'm using my PS4 to play mid to low graphics indie games, but really enjoyable to play. AAA games are becoming pure money leech with a outstanding trailer that hype almost everyone, than the game ends up being a garbage story lacking content with plenty bugs. Now there is this microtransactions trend, tolerable when it's pure cosmetic, but more and more full price AAA games are relying on not only cosmetic microtransactions. Destiny, for example, they tell us that microtransactions are pure cosmetic, but what a unfinished game it is without DLCs. And it is still unfinished with DLCs! And almost every DLCs they release was already in the vanilla copy just waiting a key to unlock it!!! Look at Battlefield's Star Wars mod (being sarcastic). The vanilla is totally unfinished! What a buggy messy is DZ at The Division, and what a joke was it first incursion! My The Division is at the corner of my room. Now I'm having much more fun playing Alienation, How to Survive and This War of Mine... and I'm thinking about turning on my PS3 to play again Dragon's Crown.

That how I feel about gaming. I remember I used to be so into it with game magazine subscriptions, games on preorder, always playing something and watching videos and just loving the medium, but I just grew out of it. It's like the industry takes the biggest shits on the consumers and the consumers are too immature to do anything about it. All of the AAA games used to be great but as the current trends of yearly releases, microtransactions, DLCs, etc etc came about they've just gone to shit. Another thing is that now that I'm buying my own games I'm being far more picky about which games I buys. They're outrageously expensive and hardly ever worth the price. I've lost a lot of interest in games and even after this recent E3 I don't care for much. Dishonored 2 and Battlefield 1 are the only games I'm excited for, and that's because they're doing new things. Everything else is so trite and undercooked and so badly marketed that it's not even worth a look.

indie companies treated me well. they pay more and tend to have more accommodating hours/ will either pay your or compensate for most overtime. third party testing was min wage. you never knew you were scheduled to work unless you came in the morning to check the board which sucks if you weren't scheduled because you had to take the walk of shame out the office (I became a lead quickly in that company so I had solid hours despite being a few cents over min wage) the big companies were min wage or barely above. long ass hours which just gets banked. I was working at times 70 hours a week with no immediate compensation per paycheck. when I was laid off though, they had to pay out like 400 hours of banked overtime. I liked that. most common thing big or small companies that make their own games all tend to have free beer on Fridays. that's always nice. the problem with big companies is that you often aren't embedded with the developer's. you are in a separate area and they tend to treat you like you are lesser. to them you are the bottom of the totem pole. I think it's mostly cause there's no direct interaction and they see your bugs as telling them that they suck at their jobs. which isn't true. project managers, the design leads hate being told when their vision of something won't work.

Camino377 And as far as their "AAA titles" are concerned, when it is not a 'Left 4 Dead' or 'Dead Rising' clone with the Metal Gear name slapped onto it (you know what I mean), it is pro Evolution Soccer, which is basically the same thing every year like FIFA (from my own knowledge).

I'm not surprised. Ubisoft churns out broken shit on PC and then when called out they tell you it is what it is or is working as expected regardless of your experience. I'm not sure why they even have customer support for PC users. The forums are a joke. They just let half the users post a million times about the same issue and then ban people who complain about the lack of response. Hell, I've had to take them to the BBB twice. The first time I won and then the second time they got away with it saying that 60fps with above recommended hardware cannot be considered optimal. They don't guarantee framerates on hardware they specifically recommend even though it's in on their website and in their fucking README files! The company is a nightmare on the PC end. I'll never buy another Ubisoft game as long as I live and when my customers or friends ask I actively persuade them AGAINST Ubisoft titles. They may have gotten me for $100 but I've gotten them for thousands in the long run. If you want to read more about my case specifically you can follow the link below: forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1443989-Huge-FPS-Drops?p=11671987#post11671987

***** Also, notice how I start out as appreciative as possible and stay that way as long as humanly possible. You want a bigger nightmare? I should show you my Twitter DM's with these joker's. I have literally hundreds of them. That doesn't even mention the blatant lies on the BBB claim. It's a travesty to say the least. Their biggest issue now is apparently some sort of huge memory leak after patch 1.3 that the entire forum is blowing up about. Take a huge guess into what the developers are doing about it...I could go on an on but the forums speak for themselves. I just link my case as often as I can in hopes I steer a sale away from them. Maybe at some point one of these reviewer KZfaqrs will pick it up and expose them. If not, I still did my part. Thanks for reading.

Why don't AAA game companies just take the extra time to build games instead of making people work overtime every day? Obviously it would cost them more money to build a game over a longer period of time, but if they want a good game then they should be willing to invest in a good game. I guess the big companies just think they can get away with it, which is really sad.

If devs start leaving big companies like Ubisoft and start form their own independent company, we might be seeing another golden age of gaming among the horizon. That means, will get less shit from big companies because they won't have devs if more have the same idea and leave. This will eventually lead to the downfall of these companies, the companies that couldn't give two fucks about the quality of their product because they know they can get away with it. All they care is the deadline and making up for their investments. When Angry Joe was pissed off about the quality of BF4, he said best when he said "NO PUSH IT OUT THE DOOR! FUCK IT! PUSH IT OUT THE DOOR!". That pretty much sums up any triple AAA developer who doesn't care about the consumer. What comes after the downfall of these companies is great games from independent developers, who actual care about what they do and their passion for this medium. Some see another game crash, I see a golden age.

There are tons of 'AAA' game makers but only a few like nintendo, Platinum games actually make games worthy of the 'AAA' title. And indie games are awesome AND cheap. You know, games like BF4 and FC4 aren't great compared to games like TLOU, any nintendo game, any game by platinum games (W101, Ookami, Madworld) or even indie games. I hope more companies like this appear and those moneysuckers like Ubisoft and EA disappear.

triedge763 Be careful what you wish for. If the big companies fall, or if they have some seriously reduced manpower and funding, they would stop making 'big' games, the kind of stuff that take years to develop. Then, you'd see the rise of a 'new' form of gaming, the mobile kind, which is already happening albeit not to such a massive extent. Now, I'm not necessarily saying that small iOS games and the like are bad or anything, thing is, they don't require as much resources to develop as AAA titles, and in some instances, generate even more cash. Indie devs already make them more than anything, and so would the weakened big companies if they can no longer afford to make AAA games. Kiss goodbye to the 'true' RPGs, RTS, FPS and plenty of others. 99% of the games we'll get then are gonna be your usual tablet and phone ones, full of cash shops and so dumbed-down a child of 5 could play with its eyes closed.

But I am way too hesitant to even try and learn anything about making a game. Simply because I don't want to get sucked into terrible things... Ideally, I would be the head of a small group of imaginative, passionate, dedicated people to create these great games that don't exist. But I know it will never happen... I'm in the same boat. I was planning to go to college to be a 3d animator (for reasons, it didn't work out.) but I met the instructors, I told them about what I wanted to do, later stayed in contact with them, and they basically coached me on the side for a while. They showed me where I can download softwares to make both 2d and 3d games, sites to get good quality textures, and even pre-made character models. You literally can make your own game by yourself if you have the time to spare. Look at the dude who created FEZ, he made a fantastic imaginative and expansive world by himself, I believe. If you have ideas and at least want to give them a shot, it never hurts to try :) If you want to mess around in one of the engines and see how it works, look up the unity engine, I personally found it easiest to work with, especially for 2d games. There should be a trail version on the site that Has everything for free c:

I've been calling for a shift for the past year now. You should have seen the argument I had with a guy a few weeks back. he's trying to tell me they need to raise prices on video games and sell us $40 DLC or else the industry will crash and it will be all gamers fault somehow. hahaha I told him the AAA industry needs to crash and burn if that's the case. Actually It needs to burn anyway, have you seen this stream of diarrhea for AAA we've been getting lately? I actually think crowd funding might be a cool experiment as well (still waiting on some big projects like star citizen), which sounds like it could come with problems, but think about it. A game won't be driven by how to get max profit for a publisher, it would be driven by the fact that if the game is shit, they won't ever be able to raise money again. It would be an industry driven almost solely by the devs reputation. If anyone gets big with crowd funding it'll be because they didn't rip off fans which would be literally the opposite of how its currently done.

Its as if they haven't really changed anything about the series since the 1st or 2nd game. Thats fair enough in a sense, because the formula obviously sells, but its bad in that it doesn't encourage Naughty Dog to actually do much expansion on the formula which has now become 100% predictable and repetitive. Its just endless "rinse & repeat" just like Assassins Creed & COD. The PS1 days with games like Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, Wipeout 2097 etc were the true golden years of the games world IMO. So much more innovation & creativity, more room for it too, especially the former.

+happydappyman Look at the new Friday 13th game coming out soon enough... it wasn't even supposed to *be* a Friday 13th game originally, just a wannabe fan-made (solid and authentically looking) summer-camp-slasher game, but seeing its potential, the love and passion of the independent developers for the franchise, it got so popular that even the original creators picked up/found interest in it AND GAVE THEM THE LICENSE, ENTITLEMENT *FOR FREE*! That's awesome of them IMO, not to mention original creator, producer, composer (music) and even Kane Hodder - the actor and stunt coordinator for the O.G. Jason HIMSELF got involved in the making of the game! It raised over $800,000 on Kickstarter alone, and another $3,000 on another account, so the fanbase is really standing strong behind the idea as well. I'm really rooting for this project to come out great, *solid* and set the example or *standard* for similar future projects to come - it will prove that it IS possible to make thi shappen WITHOUT the *corporate BULLSHIT & BULLFUCK.*

Game development used to be my dream job. It no longer is, after all I've heard and seen about the industry. There's so much wasted passion and talent that is squashed when they enter that machine that tries to churn out AAA-games every 2 years, no matter how unfeasible it is. People lose their social lives, their dignity, knowing that if they can't take it anymore, there's always someone willing to take their place. I'm a software developer. I have no degree; it started out as a hobby, and somehow, I got hired. I have a stable, well-paying job, where the atmosphere is good, there is no unpaid overtime or other such ridiculousness. We're respected as workers. I do still wonder if I might sometime try to make an indie game, by myself or in a small team. It would be great, and I've been learning that on my free time. But as it is, I'll stay the hell away from those larger game companies, unless something radically changes. I get to do what I love everyday, and I don't want anything to break that passion.

This is why I get pissed off whenever someone throws the word "lazy" when talking about game development. If you really have to use that word, you obviously have absolutely no idea what the fuck you're talking about. People has this image of game development as something that's stupidly easy, nothing but fun, and earns you millions of dollars instantly. That's false as fuck. You get atrocious pay, unrealistic deadlines, working overtime so meeting that deadline _might_ be possible... It's incredibly stressing, difficult, and tiring. It's not just Ubisoft the one that works like this, there are companies with good policies out there (and even working in one of those is a lot of fucking work) but this shit is pretty much standard in the game development industry. Game development is hellish. When something about your game is broken, it's not because a greedy lazy bastard decided to take a break to swim in their pool with millions of dollars, it's because of shit company policies treating their workers like dirt and actually _expect_ them to work overtime so the have a chance to keep their job for a little bit longer. Meanwhile people are sitting on a chair insulting those developers on the internet because your game has a sub optimal framerate. If you want to blame anyone, blame the higher ups who make unreasonable decisions, not the hardworkers who are pretty much enslaved, that are trying to make the game as good as they can under those hellish conditions. So yeah, thanks for this video Rich. More gamers need to hear about this kind of shit.

1216Rockman Yes, let's see you do 6+ hours in overtime every night for a year straight, without any pay for it AT ALL, including not seeing your family, kids, or friends for weeks on end. Even if you did see them, they would not be awake, considering you're at the 'office' more so than you're at home. You won't get the usual 7 hours of sleep that you need, and you're likely to spend the night at the office. OF COURSE THESE PEOPLE WHO SLAVE AWAY AT THE KEYBOARD 15+ HOURS A DAY, STRAIGHT, EVERY DAY FOR MONTHS-YEARS ARE JUST SO DAMN LAZY, RIGHT?

1216Rockman I understand that, but you're more likely to get a stable job working for a AAA company than an Indy comp, due to them mostly having high specifications for their workers. (This is mostly only a problem if you're just starting your career out). If you're going into Videogame development from the get-go of college (or your basement, wherever you learned to do what you do now), then you will be expected to have some prior work experience, for most of the jobs that you may be hired for. This is not the case for AAA companies, considering the number of other workers just like you already out there, just hoping to fill their resumes. The best way to go is to go Indy, but the risks are huge and you may end up losing more than you gained.
