Video Content: High bar work is of the most important training you should be doing to excel at pole vaulting. It engages all the same muscles used when hanging and swinging from a pole vault pole. The L, V, J, I Up and Swinging Bubkas can help to strengthen you abdomen, hip flexors and shoulders and help with your swing and ability to get upside down and extend in the pole vault.

This really helped me ive been doing pole vault sence i was little ik u might this u cant do it when ur little but i have been it was really hard but im 12 and this made me really strong

So I know this is from four years ago, but I'm hoping that you can tell me where you got the pull-up station that you use in this video. It looks incredibly stable while you're doing these exercises.

I haven't seen many of your videos, but I'm curious. For our workouts, kip up, muscle ups and clear hips are included with the other exercises. Do you ever do them?

Great question. Yes we do those. Lots of those. My brother Luke does them religiously. I did them a lot in the past but suffered a bad shoulder injury that required surgery. After surgery I have struggled to do high bar movements that incorporate a lot of shoulder movement. Kips and muscle ups are great for working on pole movement and down pressure.

Is there a place I can purchase that pull up bar from? I’ve been looking into one for my school for a while and had no luck. That setup would be perfect for our vaulters!

Hi Hunter, This high bar was custom made by a welding company in Illinois. I would suggest contacting a local welding or metal company to see if they can make one for you. Someone else on youtube contacted me, took a screen shot of this video, and had the high bar made for them. Most welding companies get requests like that weekly. There's also a high bar call the "Take Off and Swing" made by Vault United. Really had to find now, they may be out of production. But that high bar is outstanding.

oh snap. during warm ups i usually just do, bupkas with toes to bars then attempt and I-up. i usally skip the j-ups. had no idea i was suppose to do those

J ups are totally necessary but I in my opinion they are the hardest ones to do and work on one of the most important positions in the PV, the J position. Give them a try and see how things work out!

Hello, how many sets and split would you recommend for a HS pole vaulter? Everyday, every other day, etc? I want to incorporate this along with other core exercise as part of her off season training. Thanks!

Robert Herrera Hey Robert, for my high schoolers we typically do each of these for a set of 8-10 to complete a workout. Usually about 2-3 minutes between sets. Once the vaulter can do the Bubkas they should really focus on those, typically id do about 3 sets of 8-10 on those if you were just doing those instead of all the L,V, J ups, etc.

We had it custom made by a company out of Mundelein, IL. It is a great piece of equipment.

We had this one custom made! Any welder should be able to watch this video and put it together for you. Likely run you around $500.
