Just a quick video documentary I thought a few of you would enjoy. On Christmas Day of 2021 I actually went and checked out the Long Abandoned CN GlIdden Industrial Lead which was a CN spur line in Brampton that ran parallel to the major Highway 410 South for about a mile before eventually ending up at the old Brampton Bacardi Plant on Steels Ave.
-When exactly did this spur see its last train?? Very uncertain because the last customers including Bacardi themselves received their cars directly in their building through railcar garage doors so past aerial imagery dosent exactly offer any hard evidence because we can’t physically see if there were any railcars spotted at the plants but according to someone I spoke to who was well in the know with these spurs, there definitely wasn’t anyone actively receiving cars off this lead by 2006 & beyond. Pretty sure it still would’ve been in use in 2001 because a 2001 CN timetable includes it.
Anyhow hope you’ll enjoy the quick videos I filmed at the 3 abandoned rail crossings along this lead as well as the photos I share at the end.
*If anyone happens to much about this lead as to when exactly it saw it’s last train or even what type of rail cars the old rail customers received I’d be very Interested to hear if you’d be willing to share in a comment?
Also if anyone ever got any photos of CN actually on this lead back in the day or if you know someone who may have potential gotten a couple, if you’d be kind enough to share it would mean a lot to me also as I always wanted to see a couple pics of the CN local here.

Wow. What a mess of trucks and dirt. Shame to have to see this but I guess this is what happens as trucks become dominant and industrial areas become... uh... truck parking lots? Thanks for taking the time to film this.

Hey Graydon; Thanks for a cool retrospective on the Glidden spur. I really liked the time lapse comparison stills at the end. Good stuff! James.

The old "ghost" spurs that were once served by the local are now unseen and overgrown

Hey I explored that spur too! Couldn’t figure out what it was called but I would always see it when driving by on the 410!

I got my childhood memories of always seeing that spur too while driving by on the 410 North👍. Sure hope we’ll eventually get to see a couple pics of CN on it some day too!

Yes I actually did film a quick video on Dec 18 which was Day 1 of Abandonment for the OBRY in Downtown & I’ll definitely look to post it sometime soon. I was one of the many many spectators who went to see the last train also and I got like a 25min video from that day & chase to come soon too👍

Why did they replace the spur? Were they in favour of trucks or they were forced to?

The Buisness’s who resided next to the long disused Spur purchased the land from CN since they know darn well there is absolutely no chance anyone would ever consider using rail service here again & instead of having a contractor rip the tracks out I think they found it would be way cheaper for them to just bury up the tracks in dirt & from there they can successfully park their trucks on top.
