Well yes I know this upload is rather late a lot would consider since it’s March 1 2023 as I post this but… had some other stuff going on and hey, definitely always better late than never so here you go..
-On the Saturday morning of December 17 of 2022, I made a visit to Downtown Brampton as I thought a handful here would be interested to see the state of the Abandoned OBRY line in Downtown Brampton on the 1 year anniversary since it’s last train which ran on Friday December 17 of 2021
*At the beginning I also had another lil bonus with the small clip and few pictures I took on DAY 1 of ABANDONMENT being Saturday December 18 of 2021.
Man exactly 365 days prior, there had to be well over 30 of us all scattered about the OBRY line in Downtown in the 5 acre lot between the Halton Sub Diamond and Queen st crossing to document the last train (myself including, I got a clip of it crossing Nelson which can be seen in my half hr documentary of the event: • RAIL HISTORY!! LAST TR...
-About 25+ of us id say were following it out of Orangeville and another very good handful of Brampton residents (some rail buffs and also some who were not necessarily as much) just came to Downtown to witness the last train to ever run over our cities North-South former CP rail line. (Now we only have our East-West CN/Metrolink Halton Subdivision running though our city).
*Believe me up here on YT there are A TON of other video clips shot by other users of the historic event 365 days before my footage filmed today so below I’ll link up every clip I can find🙂.
*And locations in order too from the Halton Sub Diamond up to Queen st. Hope you enjoy!

Hey Graydon. Thanks for the look back at the abandonment and 'Last Day'. Thank goodness the last day weather was not what you encountered while filming this piece. I did really enjoy the slides you featured. Stay safe my friend. James.

Too bad this line closed as it has alot of history. I remember back in the 60's just north of the Brampton diamond there was a siding track that connected the CP line with CN. It wasn't unusual to see the old style auto racks (Not enclosed like today) parked north of the connection ready to be taken by CN to the old Rambler auto plant near Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue in Brampton (now Lowes hardware store). On the east side of the Mill street crossing (now part of the north GO parking lot there was a small lumber yard that had one line siding where one boxcar could be parked to load or unload lumber. The north GO parking lot was a small rail yard where switching engines would be parked. Where the present day downtown Brampton GO train station is there was a business that sold coal. There was a small siding where one coal car would empty its load to an area down below where it was loaded onto trucks and delivered to homes and businesses with coal furnaces. I am just not sure if the double tracks came later because i do remember that the rail bridge over Main Street was replaced to accommodate a second track in the 1960's.

Thank you for your comment and sharing the Brampton History, very interesting indeed! Yep can recall hearing myself some time ago about very common autoracks being interchanged there to CN for the old assembly plant by Steels Ave and Resolution dr. Seen some old aerial views of Brampton also and just how different the CNR station location looked in the 60s & 70s. Historic views are something! Speaking of which, not sure if you seen but I actually showed a couple old views myself at the end of this video here from 2000 & 2005 of the old interchange, remained in-tact well into OBRYs era until a signal upgrade project in June 2007 which is when the switch on CNs side was taken out, CP/OBRYs switch was removed in 2010. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jrV4aZx-yc20dH0.html

It sucks that it was abandoned. And it was a very shortsighted decision considering this line could’ve been major profitable.. and I visited the diamond in January and it all seemed intact. But the line is hopeless now as 90 percent of Orangeville has been ripped out, Mayfield Road has been ripped out due to the road expansion, Atwood lane had its signals removed and giant concrete blocks placed on the track and the signals are being destroyed or vandalized… I would like to know what the status of the line going forward is. Nice tour though:) and thanks for following me on instagram!

Yeah, the line was better than a bunch of trucks.

Thanks for the comments guys! @RailsofOntario, In terms of the status of the line going forward, not sure if you read my reply (which was rather late I admit) to your comment of my montage of the last run from Dec 17 of ‘21 but the dormant rail line south of Orangeville up to Mississauga seems to have as long as until whenever the municipality’s it runs through (which it has also since been sold to: Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga) decide how and when they will get on with the project of ripping up the rails within their city limits for the rail-trail conversion project that’s been talked about. -Orangeville municipality was the quickest of them all to get going on the rail trail conversion project as soon as it was possible (Spring 2022 once snow was melted). It will definitely be interesting to see how much longer the dormant rails south of Orangeville last.

@@NscalefromOntario Do you know what is going to happen to the 5 acres of land that was sold to Brampton in February 2022?

@@matthewp956 hmmm at the time of the sale it actually was talked about quite a bit of redeveloping that portion of land into a nice Downtown Parkette to go next to the new 45 Railroad st high-rises, honestly a tad bit suprsied they didn’t get on with the project last summer as the apartments are now renting I seen but, one day last October I did notice all the overgrowth and brush from the old unloading dock/ platform of what was storage building for the very old CPR Downtown Brampton Station (between Queen and Nelson st) had since been removed so… quite possibly summer 2023 they may really get going on the project? - Really old video of mine but an idea for how mothballed and overgrown that old platform/unloading dock got in the summertime kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iq-qicuVtZi3d5s.html

@@NscalefromOntario That video was really cool, especially seeing the old Cando locomotive on the OBRY. As for the Parkette, will the new OBRY trail run through it?
