It really is that common self-deception we all do with various things all day: telling us a slightly different story because we would actually love to be *that* effortless cool girl. 😅 But nah. You learn what 100gr of weight feels like in your hand, what it looks like in different foods and what calories it carries. Counting stuff becomes a sub-concious automatism then. But sure enough, if you run even just 5k, you'll want to eat your body-weight in carbs and it will be triple the energy you just burned. 😅 Since stepping on the other side of 35, I barely run anymore and do more weights until failure. Never looked more toned. (Plus the restrictive eating, of course. 😉)

Can somewhat relate because I was bulimic for years and years and it really took a lot of effort to let go of the restrictive eating. But it really is the first step on the journey to eating intuitively if that's what you want to do. So my process at the beginning looked a lot like: very clear times for breakfast, lunch, dinner (no longer than 5 hours apart) all foods allowed, always mindful check in on how I was feeling right before a meal and then just trial and error and observing if I would feel full and how the sensation felt in my body etc. Hope this helps and I wish you the best for your journey!

Intuitive eating is a skill. Like any other skill we have to practice. We were born intuitive, then we were brainwashed with restriction. Buy a good mindfull eating book and get in touch with your body's needs. It works...it really does.

Another big thing with intuitive eating is that the people who really push it and say that it is easy have most likely spent YEARS tracking calories/macros. That knowledge and insight is what makes it "easy" because you have a foundation already built and are better at portioning your food in accordance with your goals.

Hmm I don't know, I feel like in places with good healthy school lunches kids just learn what portions should look like from school at an early age. I've never counted calories and I didn't do extensive research into macros either because I had so many examples of what a proper meal should look like at school and at home. But if what you get for lunch is that luncheon monstrosity the US is doing then I understand that you have to do some extra work to figure out what a balanced meal is.

They basically got to intuitive eating because they trained themselves to eat that way. It’s like if you don’t skip breakfast for weeks at a time you will definitely start being hungry in the morning and always want that meal.

I whole heartedly agree. I am one of those. Ive tracked my food since 2009, weighed my food since 2010. It’s really second nature for me. I can slice an avocado, portion my meat, etc & weigh it & it is exactly the weight that I needed for that meal.

@@pomberry3591 Sigh, the lunch and snack foods in US school systems is atrotious. I'm scared for all the kids who are growing up on chicken nuggies and high fructose corn syrup pumped drinks. Of course they don't like veggies since they were never introduced delicious ways to eat them. How are they going to learn healthy eating habits? Maybe there needs to be kids foodie influencers!

Hi! Weighing in on Intuitive Eating!!! Intuitive Eating isn’t just eating whatever you want.. it’s a set of principles based on the book by Evelyn Tribole & Elyse Resch. These principles should all be followed if you are truly practicing Intuitive Eating. These principles are best practiced alongside a nutrition therapist or registered dietitian. Intuitive Eating that influencers “practice” and THIS Intuitive Eating I’m referencing are worlds different. I couldn’t recommend this practice more to anyone struggling with their relationship with food.

As an RD, I see MANY advertising intuitive eating like it's the only way or you should feed bad. While it's a goal for many, it's not EASY by any means and some just do better with tracking, or meal plans, etc. Even as a RD, I don't find it easy. So I appreciate this so much and fully agree on your feedback ❤

And you are eductated in the field so you know the quality of the foods you are ingesting. Many people will try something like this eating protocol (or any other diet) without a solid knowledge base. Often, people just don't understand nutrition well enough to make an sound decision on the efficacy or value of an eating plan. I'm not an RD but I study sports nutrition for general interest and my own needs (I'm an endurance athlete) and I find the diet, fitness and influencer industry to be so frustrating to hear about. You must find it to be an unhill battle.

I just reread the intuitive eating bible book (4th edition) and while I love a lot of it, I also had a lot of the same gripes with it as an individual as I did when I first read it 10 years ago. For me, as an individual, I had the best results and felt the most satisfied with myself when I was using an eating plan. When I tried to go out in the wild as an intuitive eater and super rushed mom and boss, I just hit failure after failure. An eating plan gave me the framework, just like a suggested workout split. It made my path clear for me, and allowed me a place to work from when I felt like I wanted to deviate and those deviations did not have to spiral into stressed out failures ad nauseam. Now if only the RD who touted that book at me like it had mystical powers would just stop listening to herself talk and listen to me, HER CLIENT.... Anyway, sorry to make it about me but I loved hearing an RD echo what I was feeling in my own heart. Thank you for what you do and please keep doing your work. We need you!!

It's taken years to go from restriction to eat all the things to calmly eat all the things without restriction, but practicing choices that align with my goals. I can eat a cookie without fear. I can eat three cookies without punishing myself. But the binge days are over. I can eat all things, but not all the time or as much as the toddler would like. Years. This took years. I'm 55. Videos like these are soooo helpful. Also yes about intuitive eating. Honestly that needs a whole video unto itself. I've spent YEARS differentiating the types of hunger (boredom, tired, horny, actually hungry, hormonal cycles, etc.). I don't think people realize how many different ways the body can signal hunger when it doesn't need food. Sometimes it needs food and doesn't signal. Just on and on. It takes so much time to figure out how your specific body works.

Love this!! I’m surprised at the amount of people who don’t know this info, but then again I’ve been interested in fitness for nearly 20 years now (omg) so I have done a lot of reading - last year I watched a lot of bikini competitors on KZfaq and I find it so fascinating how they prepare for a competition! And of course fitness models in magazines have been using these tactics for years… I think maybe people don’t realize that these days, even though KZfaq started off as regular joes sharing their lives, today a popular KZfaqr in the fitness community basically IS a fitness model, and will use the same tactics to look their best. Like you said, I don’t think there is anything wrong with something like water and carb manipulation since it is still your natural body, but it’s good for people to know that it is something done to get one’s self looking 💯

This is one of the only videos I’ve seen that says it’s okay to not understand how to intuitively eat and to have to track macros/calories/etc. I’ve felt so guilty because I’m not there yet, and the media portrays we should just know how to intuitively eat to reach our fitness and body goals. How comforting this was hearing that it’s just fine needing to take time learning how to properly fuel my body and track. Thank you!!
