As someone in healthcare, I’m not one to judge those who want cosmetic surgery, but it becomes an ethical issue when you start amputating parts that are perfectly healthy. I knew a real dr wouldn’t support that and it’s worrying when someone turns to sketchy areas in order to do surgeries. It toes the line of self harm. Either way, I’m glad to hear that he’s living however he wants and is being safer with his body.

I agree also the disorder is BIID body integrity identity disorder (BIID) which describes the extremely rare phenomenon of persons who desire the amputation of one or more healthy limbs or who desire a paralysis, and any doctor willing to perform that surgery needs their medical license taken away and be barred from working in the medical field ever again, BIID is while rare is literally a mental health condition that cannot be fixed by hacking a limb of things like this requires therapy and mental health care treatments there’s some thing’s doctors shouldn’t touch unless they’re licensed in mental health and can make the proper assessments or evaluation of the patients I really think the HHS should start tightening the regulations on what doctors can and cannot do same with any other practitioners like a dentist etc cause it seems that too many people have gotten screwed over because of the lack of oversight especially in shady hospitals where the sanitation is barely adequate at best!

I think the line between acceptable and questionable modymods is actually quite easy to pinpoint. If a bodymod will negatively affect your health and body function beyond the healing period, or the risk of that happening is very high, we are dealing with unhealthy behaviour.

as someone who is disabled, the only thing i can't vibe with is when people trivialize voluntarily becoming disabled. i'm almost jealous, like, "you could use all of your fingers, but you chose to lose them. i wish i'd had this choice..."

Honestly he seems like he isn't fine in the head to have that choice. You don't have to vibe it isn't fare for people who are disabled but as someone who has SH/s*cidal urges I do have strong urges to fandomly chop of my hands and that urge can not feel like me, it can feel like a need to do it out of insecurity or feeling like you don't deserve them when others are disabled such as yourself or to quiet the voices and there have been many times I got to a point I attempted to. Luckily I still have all my fingers.

There are lots of jobs that put you into risk of disability and nobody gives them shit for taking that risk. He is taking the risk of ailments. He is taking the threat of pain plus the psychological factor of people giving him shit for it online. This is how important this project is to him. He got surgeries before he recovered from other surgeries. You don't have to vibe with a person but all of us could learn respect to an individual that is outside of you.

As someone who has far from 100% use of my hands, I absolutely know where you are coming from. But I think what’s different for me here is that he did not remove them to become disabled. He removed them to fit his image of himself. And if the rest of his hand that he has is fully functional then he simply is not disabled. What is the real issue for me is people who change themselves specifically to become disabled because they want our “benefits”.

It's not to say you can't have stuff go up your nose, with a nose (it's happened to all of us!) - but imagine how often it would happen without a nose. There are conditions called somatoparaphrenia/body identity disorder which can cause a lot of anxiety, the person feels a specific body part is not a part of them or feels they are meant to be disabled in some way. This was ages ago but I heard a story about a guy who wanted his leg amputated because it did not feel like part of his body. He self mutilated and was forced to have corrective surgery against his will, was hospitalized against his will, and was denied amputation. He ended up submerging his leg in dry ice years later in order to finally get it amputated. From the few cases I've seen people do seem much happier after. IMO you should be able to do to your own body whatever you want, but I doubt this guy has the same illness, and it baffle me someone agreed to do all this to him.

Honestly, I agree. I think of it like, it not being inherently a sign of corruption or illness to not be interested in retaining a human appearance if the technology safely allows him to become his own art project. I've seen an interesting perspective of BIPOC people on extensive blackwork tattoos, and it being uncomfortable due to the exotifying intentions of having significantly black skin, but I can't speak for them in this specific man's vision. Outside of that specific discussion though, in general I actually find it interesting in a progression of science and human curiosity way, to allow this willing subject to go as far as he *safely* wants to. But, I also support him being able to reverse them if he decides he wants to, to the degree he can practically, and the support and acceptance of a person with extreme body mods who no longer wants them. Similar to how breast implants and reductions being more common for cis women has helped it become a much more refined and accessible procedure for trans gender affirming care too (in many cases, it's a gender affirming procedure for cis women tbh, many describe it as helping them feel more feminine and beautiful, and right) In general, as long as modifications are made with a sound mind and not forced on anyone or hurting anyone, I trust the desires of the person asking for them. Literally anyone who threatens him with the idea of hell is already far more harmful than him, and A LOT of people do.

@@netteloveszebras yeah and what's interesting is piercings, tattoos and mods can be approached by people for so many different reasons. some just like the aesthetic, some do it for reasons you describe and i have heard that one before. like that nursing the new one is almost like distracting in a way that continues for weeks versus a one moment thing. or that the pain of getting it done is part of the goal. i had some mild cutting myself. maybe not traditional. i was very particular about topside of arm, not trying to cut veins, etc. and it was usually frustration, anger, feeling out of control. sometimes it could be more... idk i keep saying traditional. but i guess you could say spirals or despair or any of that, too. ugh. just flashing back to people obtusely calling attention to what OBVIOUSLY was parallel marks/scars on arm as if there was any other way to get them. and being like "how'd you get those scars?" (really: oh, how'd that happen. like they assessed me personally as not being the type? or because it was a not common spot? idfk. if it was someone interested in me and i wasn't, then i'd just be brutally honest and flap that out there. they always looked like surprised pikachu. or i'd just say my cat, without trying to sound believable, and shake my head that people could even think that was possible. i mean, come on, i had at least 8 for instance and what cat claws like right at the same point to make a row? (are you dumb?) but the brain latches on to dumb explanations i guess if the alternative doesn't compute. (( *anyway i hope you found a way to distract from it.* i found that i had to have specific things i did INSTEAD when the urge hit. for a while i was working on panels of a dark themed comic whenever it hit. it outlet the things or created the hyper focus on all that stuff. and. if it was especially bad i had a friend i could message. she used to cut like a LOT. and, well, in a different format. i think her case was a lot worse, more frequent and tied to other things. she had a diff area. and no longer cuts but gets triggered by seeing it on tv, or razorblades which is what she used. and cannot abide wearing shorts because "someone might see". they are faded smooth scars that you'd have to really look for. but in her mind they are VISIBLE and i think connect so hard to when they were done that her brain acts like they are fresh. like someone would see her in the midst of being active. sorry for this long post from a stranger. hope you are doing well.))

I’m very much team do whatever the fuck you please with your body, but we really need to acknowledge that it’s not anti-liberal to believe a line should be drawn somewhere in terms of sanctioning extreme body mods. Amputating healthy and fundamental body parts, especially by people who’ve never gone to medical school and getting them in such rapid succession that your body never has adequate time to heal so you’re constantly in pain… that is where the line should be drawn. It’s literally not healthy, he’s fatiguing his immune system because he’s constantly challenging it with new wounds to heal. His abrupt change of heart in furthering his body mods and decision to remove his subdermal implants as well as his reaction to a stranger telling him he’s going to hell is solid evidence that thorough psychological evaluation should be a prerequisite for any major body mod, and that such modifications should be heavily restricted.

I’m so glad he’s taking a break. Honestly idk what else he could even do at this point. I’m glad he’s doing better. Last time I saw a video about him was when he was super depressed, lonely, and was struggling to find work. I am very much so the kind of person who thinks people should be able to do whatever they want as long as they aren’t hurting anyone but there definitely should be a limit when it comes to body modifications. When you start cutting off healthy body parts that honestly seems more like a form of self harm more so than self expression. We have these body parts for a reason and they serve important functions. It’s one thing to lose them in an accident or something but to willingly do that is a whole different story. There are so many potential complications and I am glad he mentioned the bit about people maybe not realizing just how dangerous and difficult on the body these kind of modifications are. Even with less extreme stuff I don’t think people put enough thought into the possibility that things could go very wrong. Since stuff like tattoos have gotten a lot more popularity I think it gives people this idea that there is very little risk involved. I feel the same way about plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures. Just because a lot of people are doing it and not experiencing issues, doesn’t mean it’s always safe. I also think just because some of this stuff is becoming so common it might be making some people feel like they should be doing this stuff so they can fit in. I’ve always been into goth and alternative styles and for a long time I felt bad about not having tattoos and tried multiple times to keep piercings even though my metal allergy constantly caused problems. I have an autoimmune condition and I finally decided not to attempt any tattoos and I gave up on trying to have piercings. I am fine with myself the way I am now and I don’t let people get to me. I did also have several people including a couple boyfriends try to pressure me into getting tattoos and I was told multiple times how much prettier I would be if I had them. I think doing stuff like that is just as bad as people making rude comments about people having tattoos. Just let people be that is until the cross line of cutting off healthy limbs like I mentioned before.

@vickipink1288: “We have these parts for good reason”?? Breasts. Breasts produce milk, valuable milk, for INFANTS. Hardly anyone seems to “use” them for that original factory purpose. Breasts are enlarged, lifted, shaped, separated, augmented, pierced, plumped, supported in bras (a fairly recent invention by a French man, by the way), and modified via nipple relocation. None of that assists in milk production or breast feeding babies! Noses have two reasons to exist: respiratory and olfactory. They also do not require or benefit from most rhinoplasty procedures. Teeth whitening… What is up with the blue-white teeth?? How does that help us bite an apple or chew our asparagus?? Eat pinning. I didn’t get the paternal set of ears, but pinning them back would help my hearing. I just wouldn’t catch so much wind. Brow lifts. Why?? Chin implants. What for?? Tummy tucks. Unnecessary for health. Humans do things which aren’t “needed.”The argument against body modification hasn’t much to do with PHYSICAL FUNCTION. It has to do with aesthetics, self-image, and the goal of pleasing others.

This is a great video, you obviously put so much work into your videos, and have a real flair for it. I think the reversal of head and face implants could be a medical/comfort issue because i imagine headaches would be a common occurrence with them. I had a pimple on my eyebrow last month that gave me a terrible headache until it was gone. I hope he was fully informed of the not only the dangers of bone amputation but the life long issues and complications they cause. Im so glad he is happy and settled.

There are people who have amputated legs because of body dysmorphia and they are very special cases. It's a very bad disorder, it's not that "they want to". It's people that for some reason can't feel like the leg/body part is a part of them and so badly want it gone that they are willing to have it gone by any means, going to direputable places and in some cases bleeding out in hotel rooms afterwards. It's a very rare thing and really should be taken seriously. I do not think that was the case here. Maybe he made an off-color joke or something.

People get things like piercings removed all the time, so if he's gotten his implants removed I wouldn't consider that "regret", more like "yeah I just don't want them anymore" lol We all change over time, so making the statement that the alien project no longer has value to him and that he's done doing major body mods is perfectly logical and reasonable.

Getting rid of implants doesn't equal regretting getting them. Maybe he got bored of them or he had to remove them for some reason or another. Their time might have just been over and he wanted to try something new. Again you can remove or cover something and still not regrett getting it in the first place 🤷

I think it's hard to say, I want to believe him that he's not full of regret but also as someone with big tattoos sometimes even I think, "maybe I shouldn't have gotten these". It's a fleeting feeling of course and generally speaking I love my tattoos/they are part of me but sometimes I do regret them, yeah. I had many piercings and then took everything out when I got very sick (last year) and needed mris/cat scans and still haven't put them back in. I have no idea where I am going with my comments LOL. I think I might see if my septum is still open today come to think of it haha.

thing about piercings is you can often change things up. stop wearing it, do others. go back to old ones or redo if they have closed. tatts, especially if someone has a lot, or full body.... don't have that option. and for full body i think sometimes the regrets are just running out of space. and also having it be hard to find work, for some. if you are on the mend, you could always start wearing stuff again, as you feel like it. maybe put the sickness phase behind you. (if it were me i probably wouldn't put them back in out of like... laziness or not getting around to it? even if i liked them all? the brain can be weird.)

As an extremely “conventional” looking person (“preppy” style, no tattoos, only “body mod” is single ear piercings)… just found your channel and love it. I’m fascinated by the subject and love how balanced and nonjudgemental you are in examining such a polarizing issue. My basic philosophy is that if it’s not hurting anyone, you’re mentally competent and consenting, and most importantly if the procedures are done in a safe and sterile setting by someone qualified to do them… live your best life. Sclera tattoos I am extremely hesitant/conflicted about due to risk of vision issues. The only thing that in my mind is an absolute “no this was unethical” were the amputations done by non medical professionals. Things like cosmetic surgery (provided there isn’t something like body dysmorphia) I have no issue with, and gender affirming care I thing is healthcare, period. I’ve had a rhinoplasty, and I love it, so happy with my decision, no regrets, but I appreciated that my surgeon would absolutely turn people down if he thought they had unrealistic expectations or were driven by something like BDD (I had to do a psych consult as part of making sure I was a good candidate). Glad he seems happy, he seems like a nice guy.

Um yeah this is super intense but part of me feels like that’s the point for him. I wouldn’t personally ever do this but I do think if he understands the consequences and still consents then he should be able to do as he pleases. I don’t want to judge him (it’s not particularly productive) but I will be honest and say, his appearance is unsettling to me at first. It would take some time to get used to it. 👽
