@@davidsmith8997 No kidding Dave. I about fell out of my desk chair when they collided in mid-air! As I watched I knew what was happening as it was unfolding while watching. The closure speed wasn't visually evident until they were to close to avoid each other. Hilarious for sure as I think it caught everyone off guard!

I wonder what is the typical duration of combat before both pilots are exhausted. I was amazed at how quickly I got fatigued pulling a constant 2.5 - 3 Gs. I can't even imagine holding a 6G turn much less 9Gs.

I love these two planes. They're just so evenly matched, and they're from before aircraft started to transform too heavily into computers. My main issue with flying these in DCS is that I have a very hard time picking them up visually, as they're so incredibly small in comparison to the speed, and thus distances they're capable of creating between one another at fairly short notice.

Shame we only have the F model, that only was operational roughly 5-6months in the korean war. But as with all models in dcs, timelines, blue/red side and scenarios dont match at all.

@@-Zevin- I've got the MiG-15, but don't yet own the saber. I've flown the saber during some free flight trial though, and it's definitely enjoyable. I don't really remember how much single player content they have included with the modules themselves, but believe that it was a fairly small amount of content. I've mainly used them in multiplayer servers, and that was a good while ago.

@@higaluto the F model is the ultimate version of the F86 that served in the war, the mig 15bis is the definitive version of the mig 15 and had been in the war since the start. The mig 15 bis kinda bullies the crap out of pre-F model F86's. They just don't have the engine power to control engagements. The most balanced matchup possible is absolutely an F86 F vs mig 15 bis. Releasing the later models of F86, like the CL13, would necessitate whole new module due to massive design changes and performance differences. That said, it'd be pretty sweet to get a Mig 17 vs late model F86 with dogshit early AIM 9B's sort of scenario going on lol

I definitely like the long dogfights but I really like the accompanying TacView. See that was a complicated fight. There was a lot going on and I missed some of the terminology. You said “this guys understands aspect” which is really important. What aspect can I research to be better? What told you that he knew aspect? How did he implement that knowledge? The fights are really fun to watch but getting the in depth diagnosis of what your opponent did, what it means, what it would have led to, and what you did to counter it.... that’s why I come. Awesome dogfights followed by informed thorough analysis.

"Aspect" is a dogfight-specific technical term. It means the angle that your plane makes with the tail of the enemy aircraft. A low aspect is where you are situated at the enemy's 5 o clock, 6 o clock or 7 o clock position. High aspect is if you come in at a very steep angle, 4 o clock and below or 8 o clock and above. GS said the guy understood aspect because he was trying to lower his aspect relative to GS. In such a low-aspect position his closure rate towards GS is generally much lower, so he can afford to spend a much longer time setting up a guns kill. With high aspect, he would close on GS so fast that he only had split seconds to make a gunshot, and after that GS would be behind him and could reverse the situation so that he's now being chased by GS. For a more comprehensive look at closure and aspect there's a channel called "Air Combat Library" which goes over all the technical jargon and concepts used in dogfighting. The video that covers aspect is called "BFM geometry" or something like that

What? In a merge? The Mig-25 wasnt designed to merge with anything. The only thing it might have merged with would've been an SR-71 and to even have a chance it would have to be at max altitude, be about 40 miles out in a nose to nose config., and achieve a lock and fire solution before the SR-71 could react at all. It was a fantasy situation because the plane it would fire out would not only out pace the missile but all they had to do was climb, punch it, and turn just a little and the fire solution doesnt work any more. Most the time the SR-71 did nothing because the missiles were out ranged before they could close the distance. Youd literally need an Archer or Adder, inside a KS-172, inside an SA-21 Growler to have a probability of a hit. The Mig-25 is so big and heavy it literally has to be at higher speeds. Turning in a dog fight would be very difficult since the LOE would cause it to depart flight very early. It would literally become a maneuver kill everytime without an issue for the other plan. Even if that plane was a strategic bomber.

Before this, it was the Huey with GS telling LS to have faith in him and then dies a couple of seconds later. Now that is 2nd place behind the F-86 and MiG-15 collision. 1:36 if you want to save time. Round 2: Another close call with a mid air collision.

I think of all the historical match ups between vehicles of any kind, this is the one is best. Spitfires vs. 109's are great, MiG21's vs. Phantoms is great, but there is just something about the F-86 that makes me just so proud and full of glee watching it go.

In reality, the biggest difference between the two was the quality of the U.S. Pilots. They had a 10 to 1 win/loss advantage. When looking at technical differences, most people look at the stats and conclude that the Mig was superior. But what they don't realize is that the F-86 was vastly better due to much better situational awareness (visibility out of the cockpit - big advantage here in regards to picking up the other guy first) and very light controls. The very light controls of the F-86 meant that the Mig Pilot could not keep up with the constant change from one maneuver to another.
