The Waltons was a wholesome series that followed the life of a Depression-era family in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. Airing from 1972 to 1981, The Waltons Cast become a recognizable to every household. Today, we're looking at the Waltons Cast then and now to see how they've changed through the years.
00:00 - Intro w/ a Special Message from Judy Norton
0:54 - Kami Cotler as Elizabeth Walton
1:59 - David W. Harper as Jim Bob Walton
3:04 - Mary Elizabeth McDonough as Erin Walton
4:13 - Eric Scott as Ben Walton
5:21 - Judy Norton as Mary Ellen Walton
6:28 - Jon Walmsley as Jason Walton
7:35 - Richard Thomas as John Boy Walton
8:40 - Michael Learned as Olivia Walton
9:48 - Ralph Waite as John Walton Sr.
10:56 - Ellen Corby as Esther "Grandma" Walton
12:05 - Will Geer as Zebulon "Grandpa" Walton
Kami Cotler played the Waltons' youngest daughter, Elizabeth Walton, in The Waltons. She starred in all nine seasons of the series. She also appeared in all six TV films. However, her career began and ended with The Waltons - she has not appeared on television since then.
David W. Harper began his acting career appearing as Jim Bob Walton, the second-youngest of seven siblings, in the made-for-television film The Homecoming: A Christmas Story. When the film was turned into The Waltons television series in 1972, Harper reprised his role and remained with the series throughout its nine-season run. Harper is not currently active in show business but does appear at such Waltons-related functions as collectible and memorabilia fairs. After working at a variety of jobs, he went to school to study business.
Mary Elizabeth McDonough is best known for her role as Erin Walton. After appearing on the Waltons, she enjoyed many guest spots and other roles in television and film. Today, she is largely absent from the acting world, and has focused her career on writing - having released three books so far.
Eric Scott is best known as Ben Walton. While he appeared in many Walton reunion specials, he didn't venture very far with other television series or film - his career was largely thanks to his time on The Waltons. Today, he owns Chase Messengers, a parcel delivery service in Encino, California.
Judy Norton, aka Judy Norton Taylor, has had one of the most active careers of The Waltons Cast. In addition to playing Mary Ellen Walton, she is also a singer, writer, director and athlete. Today she has a humble career and even her own KZfaq channel.
Jon Walmsley played Jason Walton, and outside of The Waltons, he has appeared in a variety of television shows and is also known for playing the voice of Christopher Robin in Winnie the Pooh. Today, though, he focuses less on acting and more on his music career, and has released many albums in the last several years.
Richard Thomas, who played John Boy Walton, earned both an Emmy and two Golden Globe awards for his role on The Waltons. After his time on the series, he continued to act in a variety of shows and films. In fact, he remains active to this day, and has a number of projects lined up for 2022 and the following years.
Michael Learned played Olivia Walton, the mother of the Walton family. She has won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series four times, which is tied for the record of most wins with Tyne Daly. Even at the age of 81, she is still active and has appeared on television as recently as 2018.
Ralph Waite who played John Walton Sr., sadly passed in 2014 at the age of 85. In addition to the Waltons, he had many roles on television series that he was well-known for. He even ran for political office later in his career, although he never won a position.
Ellen Corby played Grandma Walton, which earned her three Emmy Awards. She had a long career before the Waltons, but nothing as recognizable as her role as Esther Walton. She suffered from a stroke in 1976, which forced her to leave the show before it came to a close. She later passed in 1999 at the age of 87.
Will Geer played Grandpa Walton, or Zebulon. He also had a lengthy career, which culminated with his stardom on The Waltons cast. He passed away in 1978 before the series ended, so his death was written into the show so that his character could be mourned. He leaves behind a large family.

@@FactsVerse I watched ALL & EVERY show of " The Walton's" from the 1st episode to the last & many come to mind. It's hard to name just one but one sticks out as they all mourned the passing of Grandpa The Grandmother said something about " you will live in all of us". I could feel her real sorrow & I felt it too. The loss of these strong grandparents ( & the actors that played them) was extremely sad for the people that grew to love them.

No one ever mentions the Christmas TV movie "The Homecoming" that acted as the pilot for The Waltons. When they made the series out of it, all the kids stayed on in their respective roles, plus Ellen Corby as Esther Walton but all the other adult roles were recast. Patricia Neal was replaced by Miss Michael Learned, Edgar Bergen was replaced by Will Geer, etc. It's good to watch if you're a Waltons fan and have never seen it.

@@FactsVerse i am only in season six .. so it would be unfair to judge any one ep... but the eps with the best performances are usually the best eps and from what i have seen so far they remain in the earlier years where the awards were more bountiful. the Farm of the house where there was no certainty on whom had set the fire... for 1970s TV the putting responsibility on the .. grandpa or john boy... that would have been a major thing in the 1970s.. because so many adults sold out to assume that they knew better than their Kin.. that would change post WW2 with the G I bill and the education that was not included in the time line of the show.. when the ralph waite's character does not want the one son to be a musician../ that was good too.. it showed Ralph as a father in a tight mental spot.. prior to Ralph's passing he was voted 'best dad on TV'... and his character was so supportive of his Kin, with the few exceptions including the music school challenge.... obviously any dumb kid would take the courses because music school also teaches how read and write as that is too important to do when making music..olol... thanks again and Good Timing is a Good sign, we are in tune with each other's paths... God Bless and stay safe during the Purge of 2020-21.. too many dummies think its a Hoax and there are many social workers claiming that their clients (kids) are using the V to remove their abusive parents... if more families were like the Walton's there be less of the abused kids to begin with let alone a need for the kids to use the Virus to remove the inferior parents.... so be aware of them kids that cant end the violence or abuse by way of a cop.

I was in primary school when this show were broadcast here in South Africa in the 70's. TV's had just came out here so it was all new to us. The Walton's was the one show that fascinated me. Our Television broadcasting company had it voiced over in Afrikaans. Today when I hear that theme music it takes me back to my childhood. Recently I found the show again, not in Afrikaans though, but that doesn't matter at all, and I'm enjoying every moment of it.

My mother's favorite television program. Previously it had been the Real McCoys. I never saw the Waltons and this is my first view of its characters. Her grandmother, my great grandmother was a Pennsylvania Walton, first name of Lucetta. So many during my youth in my small western town of third generation immigrants thought the Latin name made all of us Hispanic so we were treated as such. Until after WWI a family could use names from any culture without the false self-consciousness of racial origin. Americentrics do not have to be Latin American or North American to have a Spanish name or an English name. Thank-you. I know a little bit more about my mother.

Please don’t take this as a negative comment. I graduated H.S. In 1976. Back then if a boy came to school with the name, “John Boy” He would not survive for five minutes. LOL Serious question: Has anyone ever asked if Earl Hamner was known as “Earl Boy” in his youth? I’m sure someone has.
