The Waltons aired between 1972 and 1981, lasting for nine series. The storylines centered around the lives of the members of the three generations of the Walton Family.
They were Grandpa and Grandma Walton, their son and his wife and their seven children. The family lived and farmed on Walton's Mountain in Virginia during the Great Depression and the Second World War.

I grew up watching the Waltons in the 70's. My parents lived during the depression, compared to the Waltons they would have been like MaryEllen and Curt when they got married. My mom and dad, uncles and aunts all lived during that time too. I've heard many stories about those days, and l kinda can relate how they must have lived when l watch the Waltons. There are so many good episodes it's hard to pick a favorite. Like millions of others, l like the original Christmas movie. One cute scene comes to mind, grandma Walton(after her stroke) is helping Elizabeth make a cake but it's missing a 'secret' ingredient. At first grandma doesn't want to tell, but then she looks around to make sure nobody else is around, tells Elizabeth to 'sshhh !' and gets a jar of 'the recipe' from under the lower cupboard. Go, Grandma! 😁

I like to look past Will Greer's less than idyllic persona in real life and just like to remember him as Grandpa Walton. One of my other favorite movies starring him was one in which he also played a grandfatherly role in a story set in the fictional town of Jefferson, Mississippi in the year 1905 in which Steve McQueen also starred. The movie was titled "The Reivers" and was based on the William Failkner novel of the same name. Greer's character was simply named "Boss" and as I mentioned above he played the patriarchal role in this story.

John Boys accident and head injury in season 2 was one of my favorites, as it showed how beloved the family was by the community in their support and help. And that scene in the truck when they were rushing to the doctor, Olivia tampering John's lecture, then offering her shoulder at a pillow, just showed no matter what one's age, even growing up, everyone will always need their mama..so simple, but so powerful.

Born in England, emigrated to Australia at 5. Watched this religiously, especially when my parents divorced in 1978!!! Was unheard of then. This show - in Australia - taught me what a good family dynamic was - which at 56, I have with my son. This show affected so many people for different reasons but the world is a better place with "The Waltons". ❤

There were many very touching moments in many episodes but the two that touched my heart the most was the one where John boy puts Elizabeth to bed and quotes a poem for her while undoing her braids. Another involved with Jim Bob and Elizabeth. It is one of the ending scenes where a developer offers a huge amount of money for Walton's Mountain. They almost sell until John Boy shows the two of them sleeping and John Boy advised his parents to build a future for them on the mountain.

My favorite episode is the very first one. The woman leaves her deaf child on the Waltons basement door. They take her in with loving arms, and teach her sign language. It's a beautiful story. There are others but I quit watching them when I was in my early teens. I was into other things. I just remember thinking how normal they all were, and wished my family could be like that. It was a good show, and the roles were well played.

I was a true fan. My English teacher always assigned some type of writing assignment to be due on Friday, so I would copy my final draft on Thursday nights while "John Boy" was doing his writing. I wonder how many others my age might have done that. As for my favorite episode, it's hard to choose, but The Firestorm, featuring the book-burning has the best moment. The scene when Mrs. Brimmer reads the German book and then translates it to English is heartbreaking when the crowd realizes they were about to burn the Bible. But, the look on John Boy's face at Rev. Fordwick -- well it should have been an Emmy-winning moment as I can hear the crowd at the Emmy Awards applauding. I don't know if that's true, it's just one of my "fairy tales".

I have been a fan of the Waltons since it's inception, first the Christmas movie that aired in 1971 when I was 12 (I'm 63 now so I'm really a lifelong fan!) It's exciting to see someone who's just discovered it. What fun you will have watching all the episodes. If you can, get the 9 season dvd collection with all the movies. You will watch it over and over. Another show you may enjoy if you haven't discovered it yet is "Little House on the Prairie" which is set in the 1870's-1880's, also 9 seasons plus movies. These are such great shows!

@@alondralabute2310 This show is addictive, Alondra! It is wonderful to hear that you were introduced to the show when you were 12 years old! 🥰I think I'll be buying the entire DVD collection for Christmas this year. I have this habit of watching individual episodes over and over again. The added bonus for me was all those WW2 based story lines in the later seasons. I did miss seeing the grandfather and the original John Boy though in the later seasons and I felt so bad on seeing the grandmother suffer a stroke (poor Ellen!), but I admire her spunk! I'm 35 years old and so many shows have come and gone from my life, but this one has stuck to me! Many thanks for recommending "Little House on the Prairie"! The dropping of the Atomic bomb on Japan They showed the family around the radio listening as it was announced to the public that it had happened The wordless shock on their faces The disbelief Not spoken in US history classes 2. Again the radio Talking about the new program called Senior Citizens Pension which we call SSI now Grandma shows her disgusts and says that because your old doesn't mean your hopeless History books only show so much on both of these I know individuals often had unpublished views of events My dad has a letter from on of our ancestors in Wisconsin a farmer He gripes about " this upstart Lincoln " Won't see that in history books but just as important The Waltons did show family issues but also world issues and how their family and community faced them I was a kid tuning every week with my perfectly imperfect family Thanks for coving this

The series was held in high regard by fans around the world it showed how the world was in the 1930 to the 60s, and beyond the show it gave rise to other shows of similar popularity it won awards and the young actors who some still are in other great series or leading quite life's away from television and fame but still from time to time appear here and there on screen. It is one of the best TV shows to run on TV again and again I guess it has broken a record or two for that? I always wondered if the author and maker of the show ever appeared in the series? Did it ever actually affect political ideas or causes political change? One thing I have seen Spencers Mountain it was great and very crity version of The Woltons in places of course the film was shot in a different location to show but both have been very popular over the years. I did think the two grandparents were fantastic I think the two stars were funny and really remarkable talented actors and thought they should of had they own series? They reminded me of my grandparents it was the funny ways they interact with each other like a double act.. The first family of classic TV shows have seen some bloopers of series but not a huge amount I wonder if the show has some hidden gems?

He is Jewish and has just learned that his grandfather perished in the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. A subplot has Elizabeth feeling bad for being so smart the boys don't want to date her. Ted (Jason's friend) tells her about his grandpa's curses which are so funny "May you inherit a hotel with 1000 rooms and be found dead in every one of them!" He was a great character. I also love the episode where John Boy publishes writings from "Mein Kampf" Hitler's book and the community is angry with him but they think he supports Hitler, he meant just the opposite. To educate them about the mindset of Hitler so they can be prepared when the war comes.

Olivia was not a nurse. When she volunteered with the Red Cross, it was administrative work coordinating family needs while visiting their injured family members. Other than that, good synopsis. I watch about 10 episodes a week and it doesn't take that long to cycle through them all.

The idiocy was that the family was not poor. They had vehicles and always had something to eat. The true poor lived without cars or trucks, and often went hungry as in no food at all.

The Hindenburg didn't ram the mooring mast. it was dropping lines when it burst into flames. My favorite was where John Boy shot the bear attack John Walton Sr

The Waltons was one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Sadly, a show like this would never make it today. One of my favorite episodes was the book burning episode. People today should take a lesson from that show because of the movement now to ban books they do not like from the school classroom.

0:36 Not quite. There was apparently strong parental disapproval (on the part of the parents of the child members of the cast) of their kids being made to work in bare feet. The result was that after series 1, the Waltons suddenly discovered the largesse to make sure all their kids were shod for every episode from then on.

I watched every episode when new, and all the reunion movies. When it premiered I was age 11. I watched Spencers Mountain when new, and read the book at age 13. My entire family watched this new. Mary Ellen was my fave of the kids. My fave episode was called The Ghost Story.
