CLIP DESCRIPTION:
William 'D-Fens' Foster (Michael Douglas) gives the construction crew something to fix.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
It's just not William Foster's (Michael Douglas) day. Laid off from his defense job, Foster gets stuck in the middle of the mother of all traffic jams. Desirous of attending his daughter's birthday party at the home of his ex-wife (Barbara Hershey), Foster abandons his car and begins walking, encountering one urban humiliation after another (the Korean shopkeeper who obstinately refuses to give change is the worst of the batch). He also slowly unravels mentally, finally snapping at a fast-food restaurant that refuses to serve him breakfast because it's "too late." Running amok with an arsenal of weapons at the ready, Foster -- also known as "D-FENS" because of his vanity license plate -- rapidly becomes a source of terror to some, a folk hero to others. It's up to reluctant cop Prendergast (Robert Duvall), on the eve of his retirement, to bring D-FENS down.

I just love that nothing would have happened if some random kid hadn’t been around to show him how to use a bazooka AND he never loses his paternal side first asking “how do you know about this” then telling the kid to stand back (even though that kid knows more about the weapon than he does). It’s just the perfect portrayal of a good guy snapping.
@PT4403
@PT4403 2 ай бұрын
Have you watched the movie?😭 DFENS wasnt a "good guy that snapped", he was a deeply mentally unwell individual, that was a threat to his wife and kid, that snapped. He has some legitimate grievances throughout the movies runtime, but he pretty quickly turns from antihero to villain when we found out all the underlying causes for his rampage. I mean he says it best himself "I'm the bad guy?"
@michelep9477
@michelep9477 Ай бұрын
@@PT4403 first comment got it right. I watched this movie as a kid in the 90's and again as an adult and DFENS was a good person who was pushed too far. Maybe someone else could have handled it better. But at the end of the day he was a decent person who couldn't handle society's decline and what it put him through Watch the movie again, he lashed out at some people for being petty and annoying but he does not hurt innocent people. Even in this scene, he was trying to make a statement not trying to hurt the construction worker. He just couldn't use a bazooka being a average white collar guy

Its a very well known thing amongst many how corrupt things are in that regard, so no "inside" information necessarily required though. Since Germany is a colony of the US, this is not surprising. Dom, I don't think you know what a psychopath is. He's definitely unhinged from frustration and stress and all he wants to do is relieve that stress by seeing his daughter. The point is that he does not have to confront these people. He could simply walk on. However, he chooses to act; chooses to indulge in his frustrations. He's the anti-hero and we sympathise with his pain and yet we understand that what he is doing is wrong but justified.
@dalenixon6981
@dalenixon6981 7 жыл бұрын
Dom Trussardi 1) He has no remorse because he believes that those who wronged him were deserving of retribution. However, he showed concern when he saw blood on that little girl's hand later in the film and moved to shield the boy after misfiring the bazooka. 2) I have no counter to this. Everything that happens in the film is because of this. However, it can be explained as a cathartic release of frustration. 3) You will have to elaborate. All he wants is to do is see his daughter. He's a lunatic and definitely unhinged mentally but not for nothing.

Tom tonka He knows kids aren't to blame... They aren't the reason society is like this. He's like Gordon Ramsay. He knows the waiter isn't responsible for the chef's food being shite, so he complains to the chef. And every person he comes across in this film is a piece of society he's sick of. And children aren't that because they have no control over most of society. He's good to them so he can make them see that society is good. If he's terrorising them, they'll grow up like the others... People who are selfish, people who are greedy and people who want everything... Even his fellow man has had enough and takes it out on others. So, he's gives it all back. But children? Some of them are brats but that's usually out of their control. They don't pick how they were raised, how they were born, what family they got into. He sees that lots of people are the problem but kids aren't one. He can learn from them and also teach them. That's what the movie means. Give people a break. It ain't always their fault. Go to the guilty ones... A big metaphor definitely. Also, he recognises that some people are beyond redemption. And others are like minded... The words full of people. Different kinds of ones. The good, the bad and the ugly.

Might sound like a Braveheart moment to some, but this guy murdered his way across LA out of frustration and rage. He wasn't freeing anything but his own blood-lust. Every 'self defense' shooting he did was the result of situations he created. How many times could have 'walked away', only for him to escalate? Talking back to an armed person shouldn't be a death-sentence. Had he called in sick to work that day, none of those people would have died. Not a hero, just another mad-dog needing to be put down. Good movie, folks just get the wrong message.

It's what happens when a politician stays in office way too long. They always become corrupted and start using public funds to hire a 'friend' that has a construction business in exchange for campaign money in this example. People like Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi who've been in Congress 30+ years make me sick. They gain too much power and blackmail freshman Congressmen who really want to make changes.Term limits, ban lobbyists and make it mandatory public servants cannot be Masons or belong to a 'secret society'. I bet 80% of corruption would be done with immediately.

The M-72 LAAW is unguided, if it did that (more than likely would just embed in something IRL) it would be the result of it just bouncing off shit down there until it hit something front on. Though I'm not sure if it works like an RPG does. An RPG will detonate the first thing it hits. There are some humorous anecdotes about ANP guys taking the caps off RPGs to have them ready to go and american soldiers put them back on when they aren't looking. There's also reports of people running without the caps on the striker of the RPG and then tripping, the RPG slides striker first into a curb, and no more ANP.

This is by far one of the most underrated movies. Every man has a breaking point.

There disturbing thing is how many think that this movie justifies violent insurrection rather than being a study of mental illness and failure in the modern world. No, not everyone does have a breaking point.

@@capitalb5889 ...You sure about that? Modern society sucks. It fails because those in control have ruined it, and it leaves the individual with no power but almost all of the blame. The individual is kept down and depressed with little to no knowledge on how to live except on how to go into debt and become a wage slave. It is our right and our duty to break it into pieces that can be put back together in a more worthwhile and responsible way. It is even worse if you don't have a way to reach as high as some others, and then the.platform that one stands on becomes unstable, and any ladder they have to reach up to is then removed or taken higher.
