CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Two golfers get rowdy when they see William 'D-Fens' Foster (Michael Douglas) walking in the middle of their course.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
It's just not William Foster's (Michael Douglas) day. Laid off from his defense job, Foster gets stuck in the middle of the mother of all traffic jams. Desirous of attending his daughter's birthday party at the home of his ex-wife (Barbara Hershey), Foster abandons his car and begins walking, encountering one urban humiliation after another (the Korean shopkeeper who obstinately refuses to give change is the worst of the batch). He also slowly unravels mentally, finally snapping at a fast-food restaurant that refuses to serve him breakfast because it's "too late." Running amok with an arsenal of weapons at the ready, Foster -- also known as "D-FENS" because of his vanity license plate -- rapidly becomes a source of terror to some, a folk hero to others. It's up to reluctant cop Prendergast (Robert Duvall), on the eve of his retirement, to bring D-FENS down.

Logically we need to take less bullshit. The world and society itself is becoming more convoluted and complicated with each year. One day there will be a “snap”. Realistically that will be scary because total anarchy will enact. NO ONE would be safe. It would be a scary time if we all hive mind hit the proverbial edge. In a fictional sense I relate to Michael Douglas as this character. We all want to do this. The only thing stopping us, is that others haven’t.

Nah. It's ultimately entitled behavior. Movie is brilliant but this guy was mentally ill and brought endless grief to everyone who loved him. If you're sympathozing eith him it speaks volumes. Xaveric, to say a movie has one singular "point" is kind of missing it. Movies are best when no one character is perfect, and Falling Down is a great example of that. Even Pendergrast, the morally upstanding veteran cop, clearly made mistakes in his life, marrying his chubby wife, retiring from a job he loves, and moving to a shithole in Arizona for her for example. D-Fens is certainly not without his flaws, no one is. But a simple fact of movies is that different people will watch the same movie and identify most with different characters.

Terrific movie. Admittedly oversimplified good-evil script like old formula westerns, and I think that's part of the charm. Michael Douglas stellar in his role. Have watched it several times over the years ... just gets better.

At the time Academy Award winner Paul Hirsch who was the editor and did an amazing job for cutting every sequence of the film. Thanks to Oscar nominee and former Time Warner executive Dede Allen.

But Time Warner executive Margaret Booth saw "Falling Down" and felt in love with this big budget picture and Dede Allen served her duties as a consultant for the company.

@@halleck3 Seems that way when you're younger and made some good decisions so aren't boxed into a corner. Wait until you're in your 50's.... If you're working for someone else and they decide they can replace you with a younger person for less and then no other employer wants you because you're over 50, you'll be in the same spot Douglas' character is in this movie... It happens every day...
