CLIP DESCRIPTION:
William 'D-Fens' Foster (Michael Douglas) gets himself into an altercation at the local Korean convenient store.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
It's just not William Foster's (Michael Douglas) day. Laid off from his defense job, Foster gets stuck in the middle of the mother of all traffic jams. Desirous of attending his daughter's birthday party at the home of his ex-wife (Barbara Hershey), Foster abandons his car and begins walking, encountering one urban humiliation after another (the Korean shopkeeper who obstinately refuses to give change is the worst of the batch). He also slowly unravels mentally, finally snapping at a fast-food restaurant that refuses to serve him breakfast because it's "too late." Running amok with an arsenal of weapons at the ready, Foster -- also known as "D-FENS" because of his vanity license plate -- rapidly becomes a source of terror to some, a folk hero to others. It's up to reluctant cop Prendergast (Robert Duvall), on the eve of his retirement, to bring D-FENS down.

The principal theme of “Falling Down” is not to applaud vigilantism or address the larger issues of economic hardship and social injustice. The film is essentially a case study of a nervous breakdown that issues a harrowing warning about the peril of living in a society where each day the pressure and the volume is turned up a bit more, courtesy and manners are eroding and the cumulative effect of chaos and petty annoyances can cause severe personalities to snap. Most people have a core of anger and hostility that, fortunately, is insulated by layers of civility, self-restraint and fear of reprisal. “D-Fens” (Michael Douglas’ character) is a disturbed man whose “core” is ultimately exposed by overwhelming feelings of fear, despair, obsolescence, helplessness--and one awful traffic jam. His subsequent outburst of brutality and frustration is behavior exhibited, albeit to a lesser degree, by a frightening number of people every day in this city. But a stranger is not automatically an adversary. In a city where too many people are one bad day away from losing control, it’s a good idea to be a little more polite, patient and understanding, if only for your own protection. Common courtesy and respect are not old-fashioned window dressings. They are soothing music to calm the savage beast in all of us. A letter from the LA Times 1993. Even more relevant 28 years later. What a classic film. Brilliant Writing, Acting and Directing.

Actually, it is about the inherent need to address the increasing economic and social injustices, or this is the result of what people under undue pressure are certainly capable of. That news article you quote is a perfect example of how media spins the truth in name of supporting their own twisted sense of civility. That is why nothing has grown better in the last 30 years, too much spin by so called reporting entities (of which are much more consolidated than they even were 30 years ago). There's your case study.

Here's a cute little trick to get free drinks from a vending machine. Unplug the machine, wait for someone to put money in. When they storm off to complain to management, just plug the machine back in, make your selection, and walk off with a free drink.

Lol noobs i hacked the machines in my school and sold them for less out of my backpack, made a killer buck. I did it in protest of the price jump to keep the kids "HEALTHY" by raising the prices on junk food. Do your homework kids ;)

I wrote a long comment that keeps getting shadowbanned if i post it (that means only I can see it, not deleted but invisible so to say). So im gonna make it short and try to avoid certrain words. Like many people already pointed out there are the 2 "C" signs at 1:11 And under these signs there are two coordinates, which you can see better if you google the picture of the scene. 36 60N 100E ... just google and see where it takes you. At 0:14 he mentions the baseball punsher how i will call it to avoid the exact word that he says. So we have "C sign", a certain country and also a certain animal (again 0:14) and all that in under 1 minute. Oh and he mentions the year 1965 at 1:15. the movie came out in 1993. Difference are 28 years. Now add 28 years to 1993 :) To summarize it we have a precise time, the art of disease, country where it came from and the animal that allegedly spread it to humans in under 1 minute of this secene, but must be a strange coincidence, right? Usually i dont care for likes but I would appreciate it n this case, so that maybe more people can see, thanks.
