I know the Berrynose and Rosepetal thing was a genuine mistake (and the idea that any tomcat showing any she-cat concern means immediate interest is pretty gross and also a rant for another time), but I think the idea that Bramblestar just has no idea what's going on in his clan except what's on his immediate radar is pretty funny actually. Shadowsight and Tawnypelt spent time together as an example of grandparent & grandkit closeness

For grandkit/grandparent relationships, I always think of Silverflame and Yellowkit/fang. Sure, she died very early on in the book, but we get a sense that they were very close in Yellowfang's kithood as we see Silverflame play with her grandkits! ❤️

Dawn of the Clans had a lot more examples of kits having relationships with their fathers. I wonder why that suddenly drifted away as the clans went on

On the subject of siblings from different litters; what you say about older siblings not usually taking an interest in younger ones is usually true, but do y'all remember how invested Talltail was in his little siblings even though they only shared one parent? I thought that was really sweet, especially since Talltail lost his littermate so young.

When I write my fanfic, I have a separate document that works kind of like a spreadsheet. Who dies and how, who’s born and to who, who leaves the Clans, who joins the Clans, who becomes a queen, who retires, what kits becomes apprentices and who their mentors are, what apprentices becomes warriors and the virtues if they’re ceremony is shown, who the main POV protagonists are, who is already mates with who, who becomes mates with who, who has a crush on who and how the recipient feels about it, who becomes a leader, what cats are at any seen nine lives ceremonies and what gifts they give, who becomes deputy. At the very top of these spreadsheets is a sort of family tree. In order of age, I group cats with their full siblings and their parents if they’re known, as well as if any of those cats are dead or just no longer part of the Clan. This has saved my butt many times. Hawkclaw and Bushpelt had Hollybush and she was going to become Shellfeather’s mate no matter what… until I remembered Hawkclaw was also supposed to be Shellfeather’s paternal grandmother. So I rewrote the family tree so that The father of Robinsong (Shellfeather’s father, well one of them, the other is a trans tom) was known but Robinsong’s mother was unknown. Birchfrost was going to have a secret crush on an older she-cat named Brookpelt but Brookpelt was going to break Birchfrost’s heart by becoming mates with Tigerfur, a tom more her age. Then I looked at the family tree and remembered… Brookpelt was Birchfrost’s mother. Instead I decided to have Birchfrost be close to her mother because she was a young queen when she had her kits, and Brookpelt would betray her by being one of that cats to support exiling Birchfrost from (a homophobic) SkyClan after her brother (Brookpelt’s son) Furzesong outs Birchfrost as lesbian. Then, when Birchfrost returned, Brookpelt would try to make amends, but won’t be able to. She and Tigerfur get together in secret because everyone thinks she’s still with Birchfrost’s father (a phobic tom named Hailwhisker), despite never having had feelings for him. Their secret is revealed when Brookpelt becomes pregnant and she names her kits after 2 Clanmates that recently died plus Birchfrost, trying to tell her daughter it was because she was proud of her and loved her very much. Birchfrost instead sees it as her mother trying to replace her with a “normal” kit. Her brother is jealous because he had just become SkyClan’s leader, but Brookpelt was more focused on making amends with Birchfrost to congratulate him and their father isn’t accepting of the fact that Furzestar allowed trans cats into SkyClan and was becoming very close to one of them. After a big argument that lead to several cats leaving SkyClan, including Hailwhisker, Furzestar snaps and runs several cats out of SkyClan, Birchfrost (his deputy) and Tigerfur included because he blamed them for his family falling apart. While staying in ThunderClan, Birchfrost and Tigerfur come to an understanding of each other. Brookpelt dies protecting Birchfrost in a big battle, her last words being that she was proud of all her kits and was so sorry for hurting them, which Birchfrost finally accepts and promises to take care of her little siblings. The fight ends when Furzestar loses his first life and finally gets a chance to talk to his mother. When he’s revived, he agrees to step down as leader, but StarClan won’t accept Birchfrost because she’s never truly loved SkyClan, just cats within it. After some time and the new RiverClan leader being named, StarClan sends a sign to show who they want as leader- a former loner Birchfrost brought back to SkyClan named Doveheart, who is also Birchfrost’s mate. Furzesong isn’t forced out of SkyClan but chooses to leave because of the trouble he caused. Near the end of the arch, SkyClan’s former leader before Furzesong joins the rogue group of villains and tries to kill Birchpaw, Brookpelt and Tigerfur’s kit that was named after Birchfrost. Furzesong saves him by sacrificing his life. His mate (a trans tom named Squirreltail) had been pregnant and hoping for him to return, but since he couldn’t, he named his three kits after Furzesong’s late first mate, Brookpelt, and Furzesong. One of the main protagonists of the next arch is Furzesong and Squirreltail’s grand-kit (a nonbinary silver tabby named Aspenlight) and while helping cats escape the Twolegplace rogues, they meet a cat named Cookie. She had accidentally had a kit with Furzesong (Brownie, who died giving birth to her kits) and wanted Aspenlight to take Brownie’s kits- Chip, Walnut, and Caramel (named after things you can put in cookies and brownies lol)- back to SkyClan. They do and Chip becomes their apprentice, while Walnut and Caramel decide to go back to being kittypets.

Your right about some characters being related to each other like AshFur for example he was so into SquirrelFlight and did everything he could to be her mate but if you look on the family tree however you'll regret shipping them also one more thing some cats name their kits after loved ones HollyTuft was named after HollyLeaf SorrelStripe was named after SorrelTail and last but not least FernSong was named after FernCloud now let that sink in.

I think another big contributing factor to the family tree issue is the idea that every cat has to have two known parents. Both the weirdness it gives when the Erins try to connect all the arc 1 characters to parents when they originally didn't have any, and also the fact that in arc 1 it was established that queens never have to divulge the father of their kits and then promptly forgotten, making it much less easy to assume that a lot of these cats were having secret half-clan or half-rogue/kittypet kits and it was just being politely ignored.

There's also Stormcloud, I like Stormcloud and I still want him to have some plot relevance other than background character. I thought that either Rosepetal or Cherryfall might have become his mate but no.

For me, I’m okay with characters being mates as long as they don’t share a parent, or that mate is a grandparent or parent. Bc they’re cats. If these characters were human, I would have significantly more problems with the incest stuff. Also, the audiobook sounded so slow bc I always listen to Warriors books and x2 speed

Your videos about warriors are pretty in depth and interesting! I kind of wish that family was more important in warriors, since it would make life more interesting. If one cat was accused of a crime let’s say, their family would likely back them up, leading to a kind of clan split. Or I’d like to have seen something where a grandparent helped care for their grandchild where their parent couldn’t. Like for Nightheart, it would have been cool if Squirrelflight were more involved. She did wish to have more kids in Bramblestar’s storm, so having raised Nightheart alongside the one who did might have scratched that need for her. Just being involved in her grandchildren’s lives more would have helped. But yknow, family doesn’t seem to matter too much in the books. :/
