That's so true! Since I decluttered my home first years ago, I crave being at home more than ever. I would have related to many of these in the past, now I don't really anymore, I'm pleased with my progress:)

The stores we shop in and society make us believe we need all this stuff...when I am in stores I remind myself of this fact and I don't usually buy it.

Great video. Thankyou. Growing up with parents who endured the Great Depression and WWII having not enough, their reaction in raising us was to not allow us to get rid of nor throw anything away. I was subconsciously traumatized by it even though I didn't live through what they did and my reaction as an adult was to hoard and shop out of a fear of someday going through something like what they did.

I feel personally attacked when you said "if you don't have enough hangers, you don't need more hangers, you need less clothes". 😂😂 That's my problem right now 😅

I also have 60 hangers and will never go buy more to encourage my shopping addiction! I have gone over and it piles up quickly in my closet and my bathroom. Lesson learned😢

Americans DEFINITELY have way more stuff than other parts of the world. I lived in France for 6 weeks. Enough though they are not minimalist they just have more quality items therefore they don't buy as much. Even ppl who buy quality here sometimes still buy an abundance. I definitely don't get long term storage but I see so many opening up so there is a demand for ppl to pay to hold on to their stuff.

Great content, very thought provoking. I'm in the process of moving and having to touch everything you own is overwhelming. I've done multiple trips to the donation center, given many things away, and I'm pretty much down to just what we use and need, but it's still so much stuff!

I mess around with a lot of art forms and the things I rebought when I was too cluttered were infrequently-used art supplies that I couldn’t find in storage. I thought of a solution: make index cards listing each storage location and everything stored there. So when I’m looking for something, I just scan my cards and that tells me where it is. Congrats on overcoming your overwhelm! Really enjoyed the 29 items/days idea and your overall story of struggle and chaos transformed into enthusiasm and health. Congrats!

I just realized that I no longer have Fourth of July decor! I do want to replace our flag that is by the front door. I took a look and realized it had little rips and much faded.

I can’t believe I’m this “early” lol. I used to want to leave and when I left I often went shopping for sheer amusement and to feel like I was getting a fun break. Lol. I DO still go on occasional thrift store “hunts” but now it’s more intentional and limited and I also get rid of older things when I do. Many times I’m just looking for better “replacement” items.

This is another video with super ideas! I know someone who buys or buys again when she can't find it! I am working on keeping flat spaces clean .I can't stand clutter. With that being said, there is still a small portion of my closet. Well, maybe I will get into that size clothes SIGH. I am trying again next weekend. Love the tips!

Thank you for sharing . Another interesting video . I noticed in your flash back videos in your closet that your necklaces were on the surface shelf then in the next they were hanging up on the wall…what a fab idea and made the shelf look neat as so clear..easy to clean too .👍🏻🇬🇧💛🤍

When I listen to your list of multiples, I realize that maybe I didn't have as big a problem with clutter. I found my biggest struggle happened with things that my family dumped on me. I'm the last of my family even though I am not old. I've been getting rid of the boxes. I tell myself that I don't want to do that to my children. Then again my children have what I call crowded homes. When I say you don't have room for these things. They think they don't have enough because when they grew up I would have a limited number of things for them. Maybe this problems skip generations. I'm glad you realized 5 crock pots were too many.

What did your family dump on you? did they just not give you the option to say no? I hate when people do this.

I just started your videos. They are so helpful. I want to be on this journey also. I am curious what you found easier- donating items just to be done with it or things like Facebook marketplace, garage sales, etc?
@jakenlivsmommy
@jakenlivsmommy Жыл бұрын
It depends on the items. I had a garage sale and made good money, but was mostly due to a vintage furniture set. After about 3 hours everything was free. If you have things that you can sell for decent money quickly, it's worth trying. A garage sale is a lot of work, but if you can really part with your items, do free after a certain time, and arrange a pickup for SA or another stoee that allow donations. Don't bring it back in your house.
@Jennifer-nz2ss
@Jennifer-nz2ss Жыл бұрын
Donation by far! I put it in my car IMMEDIATELY and drive there right after I declutter/ purge stuff. Now I'm organized and it's so calm. It all has a place now. I hope to never get into that situation again. It's so chaotic

I only decorate minimal for christmas and that's it. I do not decorate for any other occasion and that saves money, and keeps clutter away. Why decorate for Valentines day? Just waste of money.
@surlespasdondine
@surlespasdondine Жыл бұрын
I did not know people decorate for so many occasions until I discovered youtubers decorating videos (for fall, for Halloween, for Christmas, for Easter, and others) I think it's probably mostly an American thing that I've never encountered since I'm living in Europe. We have a Christmas tree for Christmas and that's all the decor I've grown up seeing in people's houses. Even the Christmas tree looks like clutter after having been there for a month or so. When I see youtubers buy new seasonal decor every year, I don't know how that's sustainable in the long run: where do they put all that stuff? And when I see them decorate, I usually like the "before" better than the "after" because after decorating it looks so incredibly cluttered.
