I have 7 dogs including 2 diabetic dogs and all are fed Farmina. My diabetic dogs have been doing amazing on the Farmina weight control. 5 years diabetic and this food keeps their BG levels so consistent and perfect. I test BG daily. Good to know the mineral levels are where they should be with this food. I hope you review the Farmina wild boar one also because my Cavaliers love that one! Ty

And thanks again, for opening our eyes on all the "designer" dog foods who do nothing but focus on the ingredients, not on the NUTRIENTS. We were completely bam-boozled FOR YEARS. We USED TO look at the Purinas/Hills/etc, with disdain. Now, when we go into pet food stores, we look at the shelves of Hills/Purina/Royal Canin, and yes, Farmina, with a lot more loving eyes. 😁

Thank you for these videos - it is nice to see a professional analysis of the nutritional value of these brands. Would these Farmina recipes be suitable for a senior? Some of the values are over the percentage range on your senior small animal clinical nutrition chart, and are also listed as minimum values.

You are welcome. You are also correct in that the values are over the recommended optimal senior range. Its is hard to find ones that are so it may be a matter of find the one that is closest.

Wonder if i should make a similar video format covering dog food commonly found along Pacific Crest Trail, Continental Divide Trail and Appalachian Trail. Saw people in thru-hiking groups get mad about being told boutique brands and premium products (like Hill's and ProPlan) need to be mail-dropped and in a lot of the towns along the trails only grocery store products like Purina ONE and Puppy Chow are available. Would have no idea where to start re: making a list or what criteria to score.

33:45 - yes, bear meat is very high in zinc and a lot of the homemade recipes try to balance that, albeit not successfully

Thanks so much for reviewing these! I was sold until I saw that it is over $7 a pound buying the biggest bag for their quinoa line though lol. Can you please score their ancestral grains chicken and pomegranate dog food? The price point is much better and you can buy a bigger size bag getting the price down per pound. Thanks again!

I feed all my dogs farmina mix with carna 4 only and add fresh food. I mix 1/2 grain free and 1/2 grain.

Hello! I recently ran across Muenster dog food and with the possible relationship between peas and DCM, their pea free section intrigued me. I’m switching my dogs off Orijen Original to their Ancient Grains Recipe with Chicken Dog because of their ingredients list. I have large dogs so their calcium is a bit high at 1.2%, but lower than Orijen’s (1.4%). Was wondering if you’ve ever reviewed ancient grain foods and if they’re better than the “regular” grains? Or are ancient grains a marketing fad? Thanks!

Marketing fad. They spent the last 15 years demonizing corn and wheat, they can't walk it back and have to resort to utilizing different ingredients. Even though caelic people know spelt and wheat are identical

Hydrolyzed kibble did NOT seem to help our 12 year old through her allergy issue.. We tried Hill's z/d for 3-4 weeks, and it did not seem to resolve her itching.

You did a lot of work for this. I hope your corn kibble followers appreciate you. I presume there is a cat video coming tomorrow? I will say that the Farmina wet cat food is very expensive. Especially when the Lira is worth about 50 cents. LOL Happy Purrsday!

I had to put a pause for a moment on feline Friday, it was getting too much to do two videos a week. The. My computer broke and I got 2 weeks behind with no hope of catching up. I’ll have to go back to sprinkling them in for now.

My Great Dane is allergic to grains, so i use Farmina grainfree. I do the duck and pumpkin, or chicken and pumpkin. However,they were out of stock, so i had to get the Venison formula. I did the allergy testing and allergy shots and the third vile of his serum broke him out so bad he was put on antibiotics . He also has apoquel and ketoconazole. None of the allergy testing or shots worked. I did find out his food allergies, but environmental allergies seem to difficult. I dont want him on apoquel either. I am out of ideas. This is only food i can find without grains and flaxseed.

Please be cautious if an allergy test was used to determine food allergy. Serum allergy test should not be used for food sensitivity diagnosis. It sounds like you need to see a boarded dermatologist. There are many more options for allergy control that may better suit your pets need

Thank you for doing the comparison. SInce this food doesn't meet WSAVA guidelines and is implicated with DA-DCM cases, it worries me to even consider any diets outside of the legacy food brands. I am curious how to be able to compare the reduced calorie/fat WSAVA compliant diets: Iams Large breed healthy weight, Iams Healthy Weight, Purina One Weight Management, Hills Lite regular, HIlls lite large breed, Hills perfect weight regular, hills perfect weight large breed, purina pro weight management regular and purina pro large breed weight management. My question is if a food is to meet wsava guidelines: purina, iams, eukanuba, hills, and royal canin; then how do they meet wsava guidelines if all the products don't have feeding trials listed on their aafco bags and some only have formulated to meet?

@@AnimalDocRea Even Glenn says most companies don't meet WSAVA guidelines. They were written for that purpose. WSAVA is funded by Hill's, Purina and Mars. Look up Dr. Lisa Freeman, DVM. And I'm the one who is brainwashed. LOL

I was also wondering what your opinion is on what age a small breed dog should get neutered. I hear 6-12 months but I’ve seen some people say to wait until they are done growing.

A fish-based diet saved our 12 year old dog from a bad food allergy bout. She is now on a mix of Farmina Cod & Pro Plan Salmon-based kibbles. The "problem" is, the Farmina is too high in protien, but good levels of calcium/phosphorus, & the Pro Plan is good protien level, but too much calcium & phosphorus.

I love Farmina but I read this online “ The copper content is sky high at 88mg/kg in the formulation sold in the United States. The max recommended is around 25mg/kg”

The reference you sited has missed a zero, its 250 mg/kg max limit dry matter copper for dogs. Reference page 120 SACN. Always be careful of online information and make sure they are trustworthy and have legitimate credentials to be advising. Farmina is well within the acceptable range. And even that 250 mg/kg max is probably underestimating. many other factors affect coppers absorption such as iron level ect, Copper toxicity is rare and virtually never seen when feeding a comercially balanced dog food. I have seen it 1 time and it was a dog getting into livestock supplements. It is very unfortunate that such misinformation is circulating and causing unnecessary fear.

Why do “ they “ say protein for active , adult dog breeds ( I have a neutered Boxer at 6 yrs old ) should be at least 28-30 % , and not be lower ?

Nutritional needs for working dogs are different than non working. But there is a very specific definition for what work they are doing and what nutritional needs that may require. Marketing is very bad at misleading people that just because they play an hour of ball with their dog every day or their dog “runs like crazy all day” that’s an active dog. It’s not, active dogs are dogs that do things like pull sleds or competitive sports. You can check out my feeding athletes video for specifics and you can see where your pet may fall, but most people that think based on marketing they have an “active dog” do not and should just be feeding to regular adult standards.

That makes perfect sense .. he just plays with our 1 yr old Bostie , 2 long walks a day and hangs out with us . Does more fiber in dry dog mean firmer stools ?

It’s been a constant struggle with him since he was 3 mths old . The only thing that gives him nice and less frequent stools is “ raw “ ( instinct frozen raw pollack bites ) .. don’t real crazy about raw but I have literally been through every “ premium “ kibble brand except Farmina . I may try the Lamb and see how he does . He may just not be a “ kibble “ dog .

Why no chicken? I would think it's the most popular. Please do the Nutro senior lamb and chicken it looks like it's a good food. tried the science diet 7+ it didn't agree with my 8-year-old lab. Am feeding the Farmina senior lamb now she's not excited about it, she gives me that dirty look when I put it down.

I’m not sure what you mean, no chicken? As far as “picky eater” with a senior dog, I’d have that worked up medically, that can be the first signs of GI stasis diseases, metabolic, or endocrinopathy, it’s not normal to “loose excitement”. Only exception is if your pet is overweight and they are self regulating, but that’s a rule out of exclusion. I can’t tell you the number of senior “picky eaters” I scope and find out they have ulcerative gastritis that needed medical attention.
