You hit the nail on the head 08:27 : people have different "definitions"of humane! (While it only has a limited meaning in the dictionary). These packaging labels feel like 'humane-washing'....animals deserve positive health and wellness treatment when in the care of humans - THAT is humane. "G.A.P" especially feels deceiving with the "6 steps" of standards of care. It could simply be said that animals raised in the meat and dairy industry, as well as the pet industry, are inherently subject to mistreatment - period. This is just my opinion as having gone down the food label marketing rabbit hole over the years, and consider all animals sentient.

A dog's teeth reflect the mechanics of the ripping and tearing of food. They also possess a shortened gastrointestinal tract, versus the longer Gl tract of an omnivore or herbivore. In addition, dogs don't have amylase, an enzyme that breaks down sugars, in their saliva, like an omnivore and herbivore would have. The relative inability to convert plant based sources of Omega-3 fatty acids into EPA and DHA is also a strong indication of carnivore status. Despite this, omnivorous humans have been feeding dogs omnivorous diets for years, filled with plant based protein sources such as corn and rice. And this is why dogs now live to an average age of 11.5 when they are genetically able to live into their 20's. Cheap omnivores carbohydrate diets are killing dogs at a faster rate than ever in history.

I am currently on the hunt for a new food for my 2 large breed dogs, after watching your NutriSource review (plus one of my dogs is not crazy about their food). My Golden has had problems with beef and possible chicken, so we have been feeding fish and he has had no problems. I would be interested how you would rate Natural's Balance Salmon & Brown Rice Recipe. Also looking at Farmina, though very costly for 2 large dogs, as well as Hills and Purina. Thank you!!!

Thank you so much for video! Sorry for the off top question but what would you say about home-cooking food diet for a dog? It drives me crazy, one of my vet doc said to feed a puppy porridge+beef chunk+carrot and said it’s enough, another vet doc said we just have to switch to a kibble. A lot of people around tell me that real food diet is the best way, but I am not sure I can combine all necessary nutrients together. But after all these discussions I became suspicious that all that big companies are just lie about their ingredients. So despite all research I’m still on the middle of nowhere 😵‍💫

I feed my dogs Ollie but I just got Pork & Beef flavors I didn’t know I use stick to 1 food all the time. They enjoy the pork the best. I tried Farmer’s Dog it was ok but my dogs got tired of it. I tried Just for dogs dog food I would like for you to test that one please. I’m gonna try Nom Nom too it hasn’t got here yet. I guess that’s better than Ollie. They’re about the same food so my dogs don’t get an upset stomach or have diarrhea. There stools are better with these kind of foods not kibble ( Just For Dogs dog food) please analysis. I use Honest Kitchen grain free dehydrated beef dog food. No,legumes, soy,wheat The only kibble my vet recommended was open farms.

Is this food better than raw mix open farm ?

Cool video. Maybe these are options for high performance/working dogs since they are on the higher end for protein/fat. Do you think the average dog needs that much protein and fat?

I feed my dog Taste of the Wild Ancient Grains. He loves it, but i tried to change to Aldi's pure being which is meat based, and he became deathly sick. I had to feed him boiled chicken and rice until i could get him back on TOTWAG.

I am using it with the wet and hoping it meets the test. Again thanks for all your great info. It’s a crazy world out there trying to find the best.

I used to feed Pro Plan but it just got too expensive. Now I feed Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice. I try to do the best I can afford and so far Diamond has been working OK. They like it and they have good poops. Important to dog owners.

Searching for the highest quality dog kibble is pretty frustrating. For every video I find that says 1 brand is good there are 2 channels saying its bad. There is no definitive answer.

We have an 8 week old lab coming home in 4 days! What in your opinion is the best large breed puppy kibble for his overall nutrition. We are currently looking at Life's Abundance, only because the breeder says she uses it for all her dogs, but we know less than nothing about what to look for in a dog food.

From what I heard the costco dog food Kirkland is Diamon naturals. They just do a white labeling to sell it at Costco 🤷‍♂️ I'm not 100% sure if that's accurate tho

Thank you for all your videos! So much useful information. I have 2 "large" breed dogs: a standard Bernedoodle (~78lb) and a Golden Retriever (~65lb). My Golden seems to have a sensitivity to beef, so I have been feeding them NutriSource Large Breed Trout with Grains. After your review of that brand, I am on the hunt for a different food now :)

Thank you for your videos, still looking for the best senior food for my 8-year-old service Lab, I have spent hours online looking at all the different foods for senior dogs, I need help PLEASE, I thought senior dogs should get lower protein but most of the foods have high protein? I know you like the Hills, but my dog doesn't and makes her sick. I spent hundreds on different foods and can't even give them away shelters won't take open bags. I found this food low protein, low Cal, Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula Large Breed Senior. Can you look at more senior food.

Even if a food gets say 8/10 - shouldn’t it just be a No overall because it’s grain free? Or can grain fee safely be fed? I’m so confused by the “grain” free debate. Or is it safe for some dogs and not others? I have a large Rottie. My dog absolutely loves like sweet potatoes - so he may like a food like this. Also, do you stay away from foods with any form of Peas? I notice it’s in his royal canin now. What is exactly meant by “grain free” does that mean it has like no rice, corn, etc in it?

Other than one on the food bag, is there a list of food trials accessible? AÀFCO tells about trials but no list of which foods have been tried. TY

Thank you for doing their "Ocean" line. As part of a food allergy troubleshooting regiment, we switched our 12 year old Coton to the "Cod/spelt" formula, which definitely helped(because of it being exclusively fish as the protein). After watching your videos however, we realized that specific product was a bit too high in protein, so now we have her on Farmina's "Quinoa, Herring Skin & Coat" formula. With a protein level of 23%, it seems a much better match to her age. Thanks for all you do.

Hi, i think that the problem with the calorie calculation for the puppy food is that the farmina chart uses projected weight at maturity and not current weight (which is used in the RER chart)
