Farming brown mushrooms became relevant all of a sudden with the swamp slime farms. Farming hundreds of mushrooms seems daunting at first, but is actually very doable with basic tools and items. Here's how you can do it.
Also very relevant: Fortune doesn't work on brown mushrooms

Tip: you can plant a 2x2 spruce sapling area to get some podzol underneath. And above the podzol you can place 6 temporary blocks and the 7th is permanent to lower the giant mushroom and that's how you can reach all the stems without needing to create a stair.

one utility of a glow lichen lit farm is that you only need one glow lichen; you can place it then bone meal it in place to spread it. when i build one of these farms, if bone meal is more plentiful than coal i would use that to light the top and bottom (not the inside)
@TCC180
@TCC180 Жыл бұрын
I like Etho's method of using the mushroom's natural spreading mechanic combined with an auto bonemealer. I usually make mushroom farms regardless as stem blocks have a nice texture for builds, but you don't really have to farm the glow lichen. you could just place a single piece in the farm and then bonemeal it to spread it around, basically skipping a step.

In your vid you are talking about bone-blocks in the nether or from a skeletons spawner AND mushrooms found in swamps, i' d say that if you advance to that level already you'd easily find the resources for more automation for example 2 observers facing eachother with a dispenser to auto bonemeal.. for the mycilium etc you already need silktouch so trading for a few bits of redstone should be easy as well. but it would be a farm not long used. as you probably dont need too many after your slimefarm is complete unless you wanna eat mushroomstew all day :D

Hey, about darkness requirement for a mushroom, you don't have to build a roof over it! All you need is tnt!! Ok, that sounds like a joke but stick with me. As you may know, there's a light level of 0 inside of most full blocks, which means it meets all the requirements for planting mushroom, except you can't plant a mushroom inside a block. Now tnt has one interesting property, and that is the fact that you can insta-break it with a fist. And by pressing both left and right click, you can break tnt and place mushroom in its place. Although it will be budded and break when it receives an update.
@sewykik5004

although thats quite cool, building the ceiling is still more efficient because the time spent on the extra clicks will quickly surpass the time spent on building the ceiling

@@sewykik5004 I personally doubt it, unless you need like stacks and stacks of mushrooms. It barely takes any time at all, you just place tnt and break it, which can be done in like quarter of a second, and building roof is really slow. Although, now that I think about it, you could use mushroom to grow more mushrooms! Like you can pillar up on dirt a few blocks, and using tnt, plant and grow a mushroom, which will act as a quick roof!! Like merging 2 methods together!! Could trim down the edges of that mushroom to save up resources.

If you plant the mushroom 1 block below surface after chopping the bottom block off a tree or existing giant mushroom, the light level is low enough to plant on regular dirt. Just be careful that grass doesn't grow in the block between the time you chop down the rest of the tree and when you bone meal the mushroom. If this happens, you have to start over because the light level detection algorithm updates the block.

Note that this isn't just useful for slime farms. Having a large supply of mushrooms and dandelions means saturation stews, one of the most OP food sources. If you want regeneration stews for some reason (e.g. It's a UHC, natural regen is off), then grab oxeye daisies. Each stew is worth 1.5 hearts. If you are worried about lava or fire, grab some Alliums and make fire resistance stews. Just be sure you've got a few of them because they don't last very long at all. But for quickly bypassing portal lava traps in the Nether, 3 or 4 should do to avoid any fire damage. They could also be useful against blazes, though more as a way to stop taking fire damage than prevent yourself from taking it in the first place, as the 4 second duration is rather limiting. And of course, if you want fermented spider eyes, which are necessary for potions of weakness, slowness, harming, and invisibility, you need brown mushrooms.

Are nether mushroom farms more efficient (as you do not need bonemeal thanks to the light level and place them everywhere?)

(*edit* So I've been using fortune axes all these years to no avail, thanks 🥭) Hey Mango, you didn't mention that having fortune III on your axe will significantly lower the time it takes to harvest the amount of mushrooms required.

brown mushroom has the same percentage for being used in a composter as a moss block, so in theory you could recycle some of the brown mushroom into a composter for more bonemeal.
@OrigamiMarie
@OrigamiMarie Жыл бұрын
I did some calculations, and I don't think this works out. He harvested about 29 big mushrooms during the timelapse, which means each one gave him about 15 mushrooms. At an 85% chance of raising the composter level with each one, that's about 12.5 composter levels per mushroom, or just over 1.5 bonemeal created per mushroom. It takes on average way more than 1 bonemeal to grow a single giant mushroom, so you'll lose on this deal.

@andrewcameron434

Afk yes, use a minecart that transports the player between placing and bonemealing the mushrooms and chopping the stem blocks with some blast resistant protection for the rails (waterlogged or shielded) and after chopping deposit the axe in an item frame and shoot it out then dispense a brown mushroom and the axe to be placed with a bonemeal cycler and a full inventory, when the brown mushroom dispenser is detected to be low by a comparator turn off the Redstone to send the minecart to chop and return the axe and turn on a tnt duper until the signal strength goes up 2 from refilling reactivating the minecart redstone system again, it spends only bonemeal and time and is self sufficient
