MY AMPUTATION STORY:
• HOW I BECAME AN AMPUTE...
Fourteen years of pain and failed ankle surgeries brought me to 2018, when I made the difficult decision to become a twenty-seven-year-old below-the-knee elective amputee. This channel is to document my journey of amputation surgery, recovery, and reclaiming my life.

You are not that different. You don't like pain...I don't like pain. You made a life altering decision that would eventually give you freedom fom pain so you'll be able to do the things you want to do with no pain. I probably would have done the same. We all want a good quality of life.

A lady in UK started blogging trying to help people be less lonely as she had a hard time after a opp that went wrong when she was. about 13. Wheelchair user now, but she is a breath of fresh air. She was so lonely when she was growing up. She would really cheer you up on bad days. Gem at 'Wheelsnoheels' she talks about 'spoon theory'. She explains very well but it's sort off.... Every disabled person start their day with say 5 spoons. Able bodied get up dressed, eat breakfast walk dogs. Vacumn laundry etc etc without thinking. We drag ourselves out of bed after having pills, exercise to get our bodies moving. That's 1 spoon used. Hop to bathroom. 2 spoons. Struggle to reach clothes 3 spoons. Struggle to shower or wash. 4 spoons. Dress 5 spoons. All energy used up before you get to breakfast. Even resting the rest of the day may only get to 2 extra spoons, meal with hubby, conversation about the day with hubby and your done. Nothing left. I think you might have already been a 'spoonie' before your opp. Take care and if you get chance watch Gem she is so funny. A wheelchair is only transport, like a bike. I have 2 dogs to walk, can't do it on crutches, so I use a 'Granny Basher Scooter' burgundy scooter thinh..... I have no problems using it, it's transport, I couldn't walk boys without it and they are what's important, I garden from scooter, take rubbish out on it. Clean on crutches but wrestle the boys on my back, always loose but I win because I don't miss out on any of it. Take care and maybe get your drawing stuff handy so you can sofa surf and draw when you want. Get things close. You are so talented. I have a desk with 2 draws next to me...... Has extra pills incase I forget bedside pills, iPad, paper pens, wrist supports, dog treats, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, suduko, TV remotes etc etc. Don't need to go far and it saves stress on other joints etc but taken 3 years to get here. Husband born with spina bifida so helps me now as I helped him when I was fit. I tell him he broke me, he tells me I broke him mentally. We laugh at unrepeatable things as you and hubby must.

Some advise from a 40+ year crutch user: When shopping put the stuff you are getting into a canvas bag. You might think the store will not like it, but I have never been confronted doing this. I've been watched, sure, but so long as you don't try to leave the store without paying, you'll be fine. I must stress this. *DO NOT TRY TO LEAVE WITHOUT PAYING* First off, you are not going to out run anyone who might chase you down and you have a really distinctive description and it won't take long for the police to find you.

Every time I see you driving there's that moment of "but *how* are you *driving* with- wait. no. americans don't usually drive manuals." It's an easy process to get an automatic in the UK, so I'm sure British amputees use them, but it's not the norm. I'm just here like "but how is she using the clutch?! no, wait, there's no clutch"

"I'm not the same." No one is the same. You're 27 right? Are you the same as you were when you were 25, or 15, or 10. Every experience you have changes you. Granted, amputation changes what your body looks like, but it doesn't change who you are. The part of you that is you is not your body. The part of you that is you is encased in thick bone and sits right behind your eyes. Who you are has nothing to do with what you look like. Even if you were covered in horrible scars you'd still be Jo, the anchor that refuses to sink.

I saw one of your older videos and commented there, but this is important and I'm not sure you'll see that comment, so I'll repeat it here. You were talking about how your prothetist commented that an 8" stump is a problem and unusual. I have an 8" stump myself, and it has never been a problem for me, and I've had more than 20 fake legs and only once did they have to modify the design, and it was a terrible leg in any case. Worse even that the Satchfoot legs I had growing up. It had a step activated vacuum pump of all things!!! I know how crazy that might sound. The thing was heavy as hell and only worked right for about a week. Worst design ever. The comment your prothetist made threw up a huge red flag. If hew thinks an 8" stump is a problem, you need to find a new prothetist quick. I'd refer you to mine... Oh hell I will refer you to mine. Megan at Evergreen Orthopedic in Portland. She is the best I've ever seen and 100% worth the 1200 mile trip. If you want one close, you're on your own, but they will not be as good as Megan. Of course my stump has gotten longer since my leg was amputated, so the doctor didn't amputate it a 8" If he had, I would have not been a below knee amputee, I would have been a bellow foot amputee!

'Importance of Feeling Normal.' Making the weirdest face in any thumbnail ever 🤣 Just curious, does a backpack throw off your balance? I know it might make you feel 'different' but if you let someone put something in your backpack it would probably make them feel really good about themselves. Like if you saw a little person climbing a shelf you'd feel kinda shitty, but if he asked you "Hey could you grab that for me?" you would gladly help. It's not that the world owes you anything, we should just all work together regardless of our abilities. But if you insist on being a superwoman, you could always buy a clear backpack and just leave it open, then toss stuff in there over your shoulder.
