Pops Knife Supply

Pops Knife Supply

Күн бұрын

I wanted to share an experience that I will never forget. Early in my knifemaking career, I had the opportunity to spend 4 days with Jim Merritt at the Loveless shop. Jim was an integral part of Loveless Knives from 1981 until his passing in December 2019. I was honored to spend time with Jim at the shop and countless hours on the phone discussing knives and life. Rest in Peace my friend.

I'm so envious, in my eyes Bob and Jim are who I admire and try to emulate, best knives in the world, that knife of yours is because of its unique double makers marks is worth a fortune

That’s a great story. First time I saw Loveless was on a VHS tape a guy shared with me. This would have been mid-to late 90’s. Always thought Bob could come off a bit standoffish but I guess that was part of the deal. I never forgot what Bob said about how creating something out of simple materials with your own hands and some simple tools was such a kick in life. Over the years, I’ve really come to agree with him. Made lots of knives over the years but nothing fancy like Bob and Jim made. I keep telling myself some day...I’ll set up a shop. Probably not the right attitude but we have to do what we have to do. Thanks for sharing your experience. RIP to both of these guys, they sure put out some great work over the years. The knife you made with Jim looked great and I agree, what a keepsake.

Thank you so mush for sharing such an amazing story...from watching the Loveless documentary Jim Merrick came across as one of the coolest personalities. I can remember when growing up I knew a few older guys with very similar personalities. They were all hard workers and always seem to stay cool when everyone else thought the world was coming to an end...a real class act (RIP) Jim.
