After a carburetor cleaning, I take this black Ferrari 365GTC/4 out for my first drive to see how the rest of the car drives and runs. #tomyangnet

Call me crazy, and perhaps owners would agree, I think this model is one of the best sounding Ferraris. There is something about the configuration of the Columbo V12 in this model and the exhaust that produces a refined roar and wail. Sure, the Daytona is pretty, but I prefer the sound of this model. I think that the transition from carburetion to fuel injection, the transition from natural aspiration to tubos, and modern European noise laws have completely neutered cars in this class. And at the power output level of this model, I bet it is a dream to drive, because you can exercise the engine of this car on everyday roads. No need to bring the car to a track or break laws to experience it.

I think you're not alone in saying the 365GTC/4 has a good sound. These cars are the last of the GT cars that feel they could eat up the mileage crossing continents as long as you have enough fuel to feed that thirsty V-12. This car represents a bygone era of Italian GT cars that took a couple decades to return, and when they did, they became refined, quite, and less intimidating! Thanks for watching.

I agree: And back in the day (and until now) I actually preferred the look of 365GTC4. For me it had a more classy styling than the Daytona.

Another great video. I like how you road test the cars. Too many Ferrari mechanics these days won’t take the cars out on public roads.

My customers plan on driving on public roads, so I have to make sure their cars can do the same! Thanks for watching.

The GTC is of the few Ferrari I didn' t like all that much when I was a little boy - I always liked the Daytona more. But the design has aged really well, it is a great looking car, and great sounding, too. I hope you find the reason for the drone. Thanks for another great video!

Pop up headlight seem to be all the rage these days, so the C/4 is getting noticed! There might not be anything I can do about the exhaust note except for changing out some of the muffers as I think they lack the normal amount of internal packing. I spoke to the owner and he says he's OK with the sound as he likes loud exhausts! Let's see where his tolerance lies! Thanks for watching.

This beautiful car is for someone who has a wallet big enough. So the owners enjoy the ride in it, the beauty of it on the outside and under the hood and have people like you do the hard job.

I guess that's what makes me a living!

I was happy to see the Jeep Pickup passing by before you pulled out onto the road. My Grandfather had a 76 J-10 that I got in 2003. I had to do a bunch of work to make it roadworthy. I got to enjoy it for a few years before I sold it in 2011.

When I was young cars could not be loud enough. Now as an old man I prefer it a bit more quiet. The worst are the high pitching noises of tuned motorbikes. That can drive me insane. There was a bike racing through our town overspeeding three o clock at night. You could here it for over five miles. That was nerving me. I have a tuned Pontiac with flowmasters. In Switzerland there is a noise limit and we added silencers and that makes it more fun to drive. On youtube the Ferrari does not sound bad. But I bet in reality the car is much, much louder. When I was a child the loudest cars I ever experienced were big block C3 Stingrays with side pipes. When racing through tunnels along the Italian coast in the late Sixties you would hear this earth shattering noise several minutes before they would pass us nearly full throttle. Nowadays it would be impossible to do that! But as a boy I loved it.

The microphone I wear on my person allows me to be heard over the noise of the car, and makes the car sound quieter than it did. I tried to listen to the mounted camera mics, but I don't think they were able to show how loud it actually was. You'll just have to take my word for it! I don't mind loud cars, but I know from experience, it can get tiresome for long periods of time, exhausting the driver (no pun intended!)

The car sounds nice - 'old man' - it sounds like glass packs in the middle... :^) Oh, and now that you are building an audience, you may want to keep the description to RPM and gear... But, whenever you can, put in a run like that! Very enjoyable; a bit of your own take on Claude Lelouch's C'était un rendez-vous.

No early morning run on the streets of Paris, but a blast through the countryside will have to suffice! Thanks for watching.

Maybe noisy in real life, but for this video, I enjoyed this soundtrack as if it was the combination of the best rock concert with the refinement of a classical symphony

These cars sure make a good noise! Thanks for watching.

One of the things that make your vids on this model wonderful is the fact that I only have to vicariously suffer the maintenance /cost nightmares . I almost purchased one in Montreal in 2009 for 75K (cad $ peso) when the market was dead for Ferraris/exotics, it was beautiful but I would have gone broke servicing it! BTW it was an original Luigi car from Luigi Delagrotta the Montreal importer at the time.
@tomyangnet2 ай бұрын
I guess as long as the owner is prepared for servicing to cost about 20% more for the extra work it can be tolerable! Thanks for watching!

She seems nice and tight on the drive and with a very good response to the gas pedal. Once you subdue that extra resonance she might be the best C4 of all your videos to date. Nice video and waiting for the real great sound when sorted. Also hoping you will find the same light traffic :-)
@tomyangnet2 ай бұрын
This one is definitely one of the better ones I've had. I'm lucky that the traffic is almost always light where I test these cars. Thanks for watching!

Sure has a rowdy sound. Looks like it pulls evenly thru the rpm range, although I don't think you got near redline. Impressive with all those carbs and Dohc. I don't know about a V12 but a V8 with loud exhaust will drone at a certain rpm range, usually highway speed. An "H" pipe or crossover eliminates it. I doubt there is any room for that on a Ferrari or that it is appropriate. Thanks for the ride>
@tomyangnet2 ай бұрын
Not much room under there for a crossover pipe. I'm probably shifting 1000 rpm below redline. There's no reason to flog an engine on our first introduction! Thanks for watching.

A V12 is never 'too loud', you 'old man'. 🤣 I was never a fan of this body style and I stick to my guns, but it does sound great!

I want to be you when I grow up! You're not wrong, it's a beautiful motor. Modern engines just can't compare. I'll be honest, the shine does starting getting dull when you explain all the maintenance gotchas, lol.

These cars require a dedicated owner to balance the foibles with the cool looking engine and sound. It's kind of a metaphor for life, where everything comes at a cost! Thanks for watching.

Time for the exhaust to get some attention.
@tomyangnet2 ай бұрын
The exhaust was actually fine, but I think the mufflers had very little packing.

I am not very supersicious: But I was driving my incredibly reliable Chevy Belair home during an eclipse. Suddenly the car stuttered like crazy. I drove the last 500 yards home and parked the car: When I opened the hood I realized I had been incredibly lucky: A fuel hose had started leaking very much and the gas had been dripping on the hot exhaust manifold! Luckily it was not hot enough yet to cause a fire and burn the car to the ground!

My Porsche 928 has a bit of drone like this, not as bad but it’s there. I have the original ‘factory alternative’ Ansa system so maybe it’s an aged mild steel affair?
@tomyangnet2 ай бұрын
Luckily, the resonance goes away at a higher gear and lower revs. Thanks for watching.

My C4 sounds the same inside. I have the original mufflers. The rear section was changed to the stainless steel Timevalve. Could the rear section mufflers be blown out?
@tomyangnet2 ай бұрын
The mufflers on this car seem to be brand new, so I suspect they may be reproductions without any packing inside! Thanks for watching.

You know how they say Ferrari road cars are thinly disguised race cars? This one sounds like a track from McQueen’s LeMans. Way too much. I see a husband - wife argument at the end of a family coffee run.
@tomyangnet2 ай бұрын
They definitely have a sound that's attractive! There wouldn't be an argument because you couldn't hear anyone over the din! Thanks for watching!
@jean-jacqueskaselorganreco68792 ай бұрын
did you check what exhaust is on there? If it is stainless, you know where the drama comes from.The original hard steel ones have a much better and quieter sound.There are some from ANSA to be found if you are lucky,But making a video of 15.45 minutes and saying 111 times the car is loud...good Lord is that what we want to see?
@Mark-yn8ji2 ай бұрын
Stop crying about it being loud. Its breathing

Having spent hundreds of hours in old Ferraris, I have a different perspective, but I'll stop discouraging people from enjoying the sound! Thanks for watching.
