Pro tip from "This Old House" to center a window in the RO from outside, slide the window all the way to the left and make a mark where the window flang ends on the siding. Next slide the window all the way to the right and make a mark (on the left side of the window) where the flang meets the siding. Now you have two reference points (on the left side of the window) simply make a mark half way between these two points slide the window to the left to the "center line" and your window is centered in the rough opening!

What a way to wake up and have my coffee. The intro was hilarious. WOW! Windows look beautiful and the view fabulous! Yours and your families expressions was worth the wait. The bump out (flower box 🙂) a great idea for the furniture. Love the dynamic you and Donavan have, it's terrific 😁

Your attention to accuracy is great to witness. As a perfectionist, it is like therapy for me to see others paying attention and caring that things are built correctly and to plan. I have seen you and Donavan building walls in-place when they could have been built on the floor and installed into position. I understand that sometimes building in-place is the best way but is it so you are working standing up and not bending or just ??? Great video series!

Laying down is mostly for production, not tedious work that's complex. You also need the space and height to stand up. Sometimes it's a toss-up and just depends on the individual.

Matthew & Donavan, you must begin another project sometime in June...because it is an absolute pleasure to be with you both as you help each other bring wonderful joy into our homes...without your charming personalities interacting with each other, the light you bring into our homes will be dimmed into a fog of bland boredom...

Me hanging windows... It's plumb and level, but not square?! On a side note... I need to pick up some of those little air bags. It's amazing looking out the new windows! My next house is surely going to have more than the 5 I have now. Looking forward to having the room of windows installed.

I thought it was a Redbud tree, but I think I heard Matt say it's a Crabapple on the live show. A Redbud is one of my favorite trees. I have 3. To keep them looking their best requires regular pruning though. New branches often grow downward and inward, so I try to trim those off.

Those Festool track saws take the W right out of Work. You have used them, among many other tools, on so many parts of the build that Festool should be sponsoring at least some of the videos. Great view from the kitchen sink! one of my regrets when I built my MN house was too small of a window over the sink. BTW those Red Pines out the window are looking a bit spindly, time to think them out IMHO. Carry on with what you can when you can and it'll be wrapped up before winter comes around again!

I hope a lot of contractors heard what you said Matt. If you put a lot of effort in framing everything is easier. I need a shirt that says that when I install our bi-folding door systems lol. GCs will be the first ones to claim we build the door the wrong size... No sir, your rough opening is a trapezoid.

I have built doors both interior and exterior out of oak planks. With some planing, sanding, a router, and some Titebond glue you can build a very solid door in a few days. Why are ordering a door when you can build one that is far superior and will only take a small amount of time? You can apply a nice stain and sealer and have a door that will outlast anything out there.
