I've been a LPN for 8 years and just recently became a RN in 2023. This video gives a brief highlight on how my first days of orientation have been while working a med surg/ortho surgical unit. Plus I take a min in the end to talk about healing those wounds that so many of us have but love to hold on to.

Hey nurse B! Happy to hear all your updates and it sounds like it’s gonna be a great learning experience. I picked up a side job at a LTC for the summer and I’m experiencing the opposite problem you are going through😂 My main job is at a large hospital where help and resources are readily available and everyone is willing to help but at the LTC setting it really feels like I’m just out there all alone 😳Kinda scary since this is the 1st time I work LTC and is sure is an experience 😅 I’m very thankful for this summer opportunity but DAM lol

You got this! I'm a CNA and just started with a new Assisted Living facility and then I'm gonna begin my pre-reqs for Nursing starting in January. Although I'm not doing as much as you, I'm out here getting it. $$$$

You got it girl! Same here I’ve been in LTC and this week is my third week on orientation in the hospital 😅 and I feel so overwhelmed, nervous, anxious, and excited to learn something new all in the same breath.

If ur going 2 try the CRNA program, get n2 ICU ASAP. Ur going 2 need the experience...Trauma Level I ICU. Try not 2 think about ur LTC experience. 30 patients n LTC is a bit different than 5-7 n acute care. It's constantly moving, but help & delegating is necessary. U have 2 stay on top of ur orders, labs & patients' conditions, which can change often. U GOT THIS! U r NurseB!!! 😉💪🏿👍🏿

Once you're acclimated to the unit ins & outs, you'll be fine. Your preceptor helps to guide you with that.

TURPs r annoying as hell. They're not hard, but monitoring 4 clots & the color of urine is blah. I let the bags irrigate slowly so I don't have 2 change them out as much. If the color gets dark when I do my assessments, I just increase the flow as needed. Don't focus too much on time management right now, but on learning & building ur skill set. Once u get ur routine down packed, the time management will come. Working days can b a lot, esp when visitors r present. They can slow u down when ur focused, affecting time management.

Thanks for your videos . Not sure if you remember me, you helped me through nursing school and I sent you a book to study with.. anywho.. I interviewed for a job at a rehabilitation facility ❤️hopefully I get it and this video helps me get some kind of idea of what to expect! Keep us posted and I will definitely do the same!😊💕🙏🏾

Yes, it’s a PRN position (that’s designed to replace the need for agency nurses) so they only give you a quick orientation on the unit. And thank you so much, I have to take the time to remember how far I’ve come

@@yourfavnurseb9699 It's so funny how much this has all transitioned over the past few years. I so miss the 90s. lol It would seem to me that if you're only PRN, they'd give more orientation to allow you to create some sort of a routine considering you're not agency, you're actually a part of their team. And they know you're a LTC nurse and not a hospital nurse. t's just crazy to me. Be careful with that because you will still be held liable if heaven forbid something goes array during your shift. They will say "You could have asked for more training." You worked too hard to get where you are. And yes ma'am, you have come a long way. never forget that. I started following you a few years ago after you became an LPN. You were interviewing Victoria Randle of The Secret Cocktail. When I heard you talk I was like, thick chick gotta be from the Lou🙂. I'm from there too but I live in WA state. Anyway, keep your eye on the prize, there is more in store for you. You have great ambition and determination. The world is your oyster.🤩

Look you been acting real funny with us lately. Ion like it. 🕵️‍♀️🤣 we need all the tea. Lol I’m so happy for you girl!!!! You are making the right moves. I love this for you!!! And you will be fine. You are just going into a new territory that’s all. If you were not at least a little scared….it wouldn’t be a good situation. They say if it doesn’t make you a excited and scared at the same time it’s not the right move. Lol you are just being made uncomfortable right now which is good because you are going to learn so much! In a few months you will feel more confident. We all have to go through this phase when we are leveling up. Leveling up is uncomfortable during the transition phase girl! You got this!!! Idk if you do this but girl watch some of your old videos of you talking about what you plan to do and YOU ARE LITERALLY DOING IT NOW girl!!!!!! And think about how you felt transitioning from a CNA to LPN. I’m sure it was also intimidating. You will be fine. 💪🏽
