I visited Jakarta for the first time a few months ago and stayed pretty close to where you were exploring at the beginning of the video. I absolutely loved the city. It's definitely an underrated gem in Southeast Asia!

Jakarta is similar to LA - its huge city and spreading all over u might need a car or at least use online vehicles such as Grab or Gojek ( same as Uber/Lyft but in very cheap cost). The Indonesian language (bahasa Indonesia)is based on the Malay language, there are similar words used in both languages, however, bahasa Indonesia use some loan words from the dutch language while the Malay language use loan words from English.....Indonesians can probably understand 60-70% of Malay and probably vice versa.

When i was on pulau weh, I made friends with the kitchen homestay staff + helped them while learning Indonesian. They had a big bag of mysterious white powder that they added to every dish + called it “salt” 😂 The food was delicious though!

Welcome, hope you guys have a great time here in Indo. Indo is a big country (more than 3 times thailand size for land area, even bigger if you add the body of sea territory), i don't think there's a single travel guide that offers you a true picture of what this country has to offers. So here a little suggestions: Mentawai islands arguably are the most surfing wave rich region on the planet with perfect undeveloped tropical setting with fine white sand everywhere and local tribe that have oldest tattoo culture in the world. Lombok is great place to do volcano hike in rinjani, waterfalls and surf retreats. Sumba is considered as the last megalith culture on the planet, the culture is so unique there's little to no influence from other old civilization like china and India, beaches like tarimbang, mambang, nihiwatu, bawana are completely empty most of the time, it also has pristine waterfalls like matayangu, lapopu, waimarang and many more. Raja ampat is considered as the most biodiverse marine ecosystem of planet with so many lagoons different shape, even 2 of them resemble a heart shape and home to beautiful birds of paradise. There's big atolls on the north of raja ampat called fani and ayau island where you can have sandbanks all for yourself. Triton bay is amazing for diving and beaches hopping and there's a chance to see whalesharks in more ethically appropriate, don't forget to visit karawawi waterfall a big waterfall side by side to a fine white beach with same name. Sulawesi and surrounding islands host 12 known different species of tarsiers and have many dive spots like bunaken, lembeh, togian, luwuk-banggai, takabonerato and wakatobi. Komodo is great place for diving, pink sand beaches and of course the one and only wild habitat for komodo dragon. Java has amazing old temples (expensive tho), beautiful unique volcanoes in interior of the islands like bromo and ijen, and some beautiful beaches located in malang, pacitan,banyuwangi,karimun jawa. Bali, of course there's no place like Bali where culture are celebrated and festive. Uluwatu are the place to go for beaches and to see some surfers ride the waves, Bombie in uluwatu could hold 20+ft in it's prime swell usually on the best days of july and august, something that you can't find in the entire of southeast asia except few other spots in Indo. There's so many other places i can't mention, it will be too long 😊. And don't worry jakarta is the most traffic jammed in Indo so if you can handle Jakarta, the rest of the country will be much easier. Safe travels.
