my 16 year old daughter showed me this video, and I didn't want to hurt her feelings, but I was like, " nobody is going to top Simon and Garfunkel. " I endured the first 20 seconds or so, thinking, "well this is way too slow," but then that angelic voice broke through in the first key change. By the end of the song I couldn't talk because I was choking back tears, and every time I hear this song it has the same effect on me. This singer taps into my soul and releases all of my sorrowful frustration. He is a genius.

@@danmccarthy7038 I watch for the looks on people's faces too. I have a bunch of downloaded videos of the surprised look on people's faces. Their words work when the song ends priceless too. One guy who had this wide-eyed look on his face the whole song, when it ended could only say "fuck me". Another very prim and proper woman that her parents only let her listen to classical music when she was growing up, belted out, "HOLY fuck", When she got done bristling to the song.

I'm a Senior Citizen and remember the original version very well and always loved it. I will suggest that TOGETHER Simon and Garfunkel and Disturbed have created a Masterpiece. S&G wrote those lyrics that tore at our hearts in the 60s and still do today. Disturbed delivers those lyrics with the power and passion they deserve. Together, it's a Masterpiece.

Simon and Garfunkel wrote those lyrics to describe the turmoil of the world in the 60's. It's about the segregation, marches and demonstrations that carried on... All sides wanted to be heard and no one would listen. And lo and behold, 50 years later, it comes again...

It was a hit when it came out years ago. But because of the way Simon and Garfunkel sung the original, people assumed it was in the same alternative sound. This song, from the beginning, needed to be HEARD. When I saw it, when it was first released, I was blown off my couch. I too expected something else. David was so mesmerising, I didn’t want to take my eyes off him. I loved it so much , I sent it to my friends on all the SMS. The reason why it is still going strong is people had to be convinced to listen to it with prejudice ( expecting it to be S&G). As more and more people saw it, the popularity grew. This is one of the only songs that hit multi-millions of views THROUGH WORD OF MOUTH. Someone got blown away and told someone else, who told their friends, who then told their friends, etc. It will go down as a classic, the same way the original did, except it has a whole new meaning. The catchy music of S&G didn’t really allow a person to understand the depth of the words. David, starting slow, and building gradually into the peak, took us with him. You heard the words. You recognized the warning, and you witnessed the rage because man just didn’t listen, so now, years later, we are a society engrossed in our cell phones, our SMS sites. We don’t talk with each other. We don’t communicate with each other. We are instead, worshipping technology. Technology wasn’t bad. It was how humans allowed it to affect them that was dangerous, and a threat. Simon and Garfunkel sounded the warning, Disturbed gives us the sadness mixed with rage because we just didn’t hear.

To understand one of the reasons this version of "Sound of Silence" was so remarkable is because of the stark contrast from the band's normal songs. Their most well known songs are probably "Down with Sickness" and "Stupify". When they first sang this song they weren't at all sure how their fans would react, but they loved it just as much as everyone else, if not more so, and now it is a staple during their performances.

Thanks for your well felt, honest, uninterrupted reaction! I love watching reaction videos of songs that move my soul…However, this cover by ‘Disturbed’ is always stopped for reaction just as it’s building to a new level…99% of male reactors do this, and I have to be honest and descriptive here (wives will understand what I mean🫢)… It’s like the act of physical love being expressed and you are in a rhythmic flow toward a beautiful climax and suddenly… your 6 yo. is knocking on the bedroom door…🙄🫤 Thanks for not answering the door! 🦋Lily🦋

I have always liked this Simon & Garfunkel song so when I came across it by the group Disturbed, I listened. I did not know what to expect. Well this singer took this song to a totally new level. It totally blew me away. I had serious goosebumps. I have read some commentary say that S&G gave us a message years ago and now this version displays anger and sadness at how we have not heeded the message.i believe that to be true. The Disturbed version has a much more powerful intensity to this message .He draws you in with that deep voice then he hits you with that roughness in his voice showing us the error of our ways. I have never had such an intense emotional reaction to a song. Without a doubt, he takes this song to another level. The cover video with the layout, the black and Grey images and the drums take the video into another stratosphere. Superbly done.

Hello from New Jersey, USA. You're a pleasure to watch and congratulations on the success of your channel. I'm a73 year old man, raised through the 60's along with the incredible range of music that took place during that decade. I, of course, heard the original acoustic Simon & Garfunkel version in 1964, followed by the electric/rock version in 1965. It quickly became a classic, as did many of S&G songs such as Mrs. Robinson, I Am A rock, Scarborough Fair/Canticle, etc. The Disturbed version is of another dimension however. I do believe this version has directly gotten a "thumbs up" from Paul Simon, which is a tribute unto itself. I believe the song has routinely been interpreted as a statement of poor or no communication that had been clearly growing between peoples. I agree to some extend but my real feelings about the poetry is a two fold analysis. I believe the first half is explaining the lose of communication and interaction among humans and the hardening of the inner spirit and the exclusion of everything, including God. While the second half is God calling out to all, reaching for us, telling us that the "words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls" (for those who have never been in big U.S. inner cities, there is always a wealth of spray paint scrawling about repenting, listening, warning, etc. on subway (train) cars and run down apartment building walls). I grew up in New York City, I know these writings well. God's voice is gentle but firm, and whispers his message into the sounds of silence. David's last verse shows the pain and despair that this message is portraying, almost begging us to listen. A very, very powerful poem and an amazing cover of a classic. I've watch 20, perhaps 30 of these First Reaction videos and all but one, have had identical reactions as you've showed here (only one music teacher, who made it clear before even hearing this version that there was never going to an other version for her beyond the original). The setting, lighting, acoustics and the superb musicians only accentuated David's amazing presentation. His voice deserved that perfection and he got it from all around hm. Thanks for your reactions. They were honest and heartfelt. Regards to all.

David Draiman made one subtle lyric change from the original. He changed "And the sign flashed out its warning" to "And the sign LASHED out its warning." A small change, but a powerful one, and one that fits this version of the song very well.

The song is very old - Simon and Garfunkel from about 1965 or so. The lyrics take on very different meaning in this cover. The lyrics become very moving. David Draiman has been classically trained to be a cantor most of his teen and adult years, so he has top notch vocal control, pitch, phrasing etc. His band mates are virtuosos like he is, just on instruments. They’ve been together for a really long time singing raw heavy metal. But for the last 10 years they have been toying with getting back to acoustic performances or orchestrated ballads. The Sound pf Silence e courage them to get together and actually write and compose all together in one place until they were done rather than sending their music files to one another. It turned out to be genius and allows them to rediscover the live collaboration they used to do when they were younger. So Draiman has always been known for his virtuoso operatic baritone voice...thankfully he is so well trained over the years that his vocal fries, that powerful “Odin” rasp he’s known for, is something he taught himself to do using his facial and throat muscles - in front of his vocal cords, not behind, so the air in his chest is fried in his face and not part of his chest voice. When you watch the official video, watch his face. It changes. Two songs from their new Album “Evolution” are more like ballads. One is about keeping memories, and the other is about forgiving yourself. Apparently it has had a great impact on people who are deeply depressed and saved them from taking their lives The two cuts above are:”Hold on to memories” and “A reason to fight”. He sings in a more typical baritone register. Enjoy! Jeg er glad for, at du fandt dem! (My cousins are Danish...live on Fyn)❤️

The song is actually Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel and this particular cover is done by David Draiman, a specially trained (Cantor) vocalist from the band called Disturbed. The song was written by Paul Simon and originally released in September 1965. 😊

Subscribed on this reaction. The most vital factor in being absorbed into your reaction, so deeply that it is like hearing the music for the first time, is watching your eyes. I fell into your eyes as you experienced this performance. Even before the music began I was arrested by your eyes. That may sound like flattery, please don't take it that way. Your eyes are amazing, but I'm talking about their expressiveness. One of the great moments of truth and poetry in the gospels is Matthew's statement, "The eye is the lamp of the body." Your lamp is a light in these dark and depressing times. Thank you.

#Sabina KZfaq just put your channel on my suggested videos playlist this morning, and I love how you let the whole song play before commenting! I remember the original song by Simon and Garfunkel from when I was a boy back in the 1960's. I believe my older brother had the album, so I imagine I have heard the song many, many times. I like a lot Disturbed's song's, "The Light" and a newer song titled "Hold Onto Memories" is very uplifting and encouraging. The title gives away what the song is about....and I think you would enjoy it as you get to hear more of David's voice in an acoustic atmosphere.

Sabina just did a very respectful reaction of this magnificent performance and she is a class act. Occasional text comments that mirrored her facial expressions were the only "interruptions." I think about 99% of the reactions videos on KZfaq are all about the reviewers and I don't want to remain "silent" about it. Eating, sipping on straws of drinks, shouting during the music, bad over-acting; all ridiculous. This is a true reaction/review video. I'm clicking a thumbs up and subscribing. Thank you Sabina.

Love this video, The sound of silence has been a favorite song ever since Simon and Garfunkel first performed it. It would be worthwhile to see someone do a comparison of the various versions of this, by artists like the Pentatonics, or Simon and Garfunkel. It's an amazing song. This version has become my favorite.

A song and a text that melts all the vulnerabilities, that brings you fearlessly to your human essence. I loved and still love the original version of Simon & Garfunkel that modeled my and our soul as teenagers and our spirits that craved to make this world a sublime place to live. This version brought tears to my eyes by realizing how much fear and lack of communication keeps us away from one another. When will we able to look into somebodies' eyes and say I really love your courage to be what are you displaying in your behavior? Then this song will be our Anthem.

For those unaware, David was very ill with the flu when he did this on Conan. I am always amazed at the power in his voice while sitting and having the drums very close to him, not at the rear of the orchestra. He has since removed the piercings from his chin!

"... the words of the prophets are written on subway walls and tenament halls ..." Simon & Garfunkel's rendition was a melancholy lament, full of resignation over the social disillusionment. I hear Disturbed's rendition as a powerfull call to arms, the anthem for the coming revolution!

Think of where we were in the 60's and the warning Simon & Garfunkle gave us through Paul's lyrics; think of where we are today, through the lens of this masterful arrangement David Draiman and Disturbed gave us - and of the anger we should feel that we've failed to listen to Paul's warning. Then think of where we're headed...
