The early 80s were an epic time for Australian pub rock. Honestly I have no idea how many times I saw the Dynamic Hepnotics, Mentals, Chisel, Jon English and the Foster Brothers, Jo Jo Zep and so many others.

Good time band! I really like Gotta Be Wrong, which I think came out around the same time(?). I also love a singer/songwriter named Billy Field. ''You Weren't In Love With Me'', ''Bad Habits'' and ''True Love'' were my favourites by him. I'm really loving the almost daily flashbacks here! 😍

Takes me back to university days. We had this small 60s revival in Australia back in the mid 80s and these guys found a way to fit the bill. They played a bit with ska and soul for a couple of years before this took off. Gotta Be Wrong is another goodie by these guys.

The Dynamic Hepnotics were an Australian soul, blues and funk band which formed in 1979 and disbanded in 1986. Mainstay, lead vocalist and front man, "Continental" Robert Susz formed the group in Sydney. They had chart success on the Australian Kent Music Report Singles Chart with a top 5 single, "Soul Kind of Feeling" in 1984. It was followed by "Gotta Be Wrong (Way to Love)" which reached the top 20 in 1985. Their album, Take You Higher, reached the top 20 on the related Albums Chart in June. In 1986, "Soul Kind of Feeling" won the APRA Music Award for 'Most Performed Australasian Popular Work'. Peace out

OKAY GUYS, I noticed some conversation about the great Billy Field, and I am very keen to see Billy Field be included on this channel. Who did it better? Billy Field - Bad Habits *Antipodes* vs. David Lee Roth - Bad Habits (Billy wrote and recorded the original) Billy Field - You Weren't In Love With Me *nzoz1981* vs. Mick Fleetwood - You Weren't In Love With Me (Billy wrote and recorded the original) Tim Harden - If I Were A Carpenter (Tim wrote and recorded the original) vs. Swanee - If I Were A Carpenter (Audio + Video merge 2024) Also: Jo Jo Zep And The Falcons - Hit And Run nzoz1979 Moving Pictures - What About Me nzoz1982 Swanee - Lady What's Your Name nzoz1982 The Sports - Live Work And Play (visual + video merge)

The man with the sunglasses and red comb on the side of his head is Frank Bennett. You might like to check out his version of Radiohead's ''Creep'' sometime. He did to ''Creep'' what The Mike Flowers Pops did with Oasis's ''Wonderwalll''. The singer is "Continental" Robert Susz. He used to be a customer at a chemist I worked at in Kings Cross yonks ago. If you live and work around the centre of Sydney, you tend to see the same faces and I often saw Robert's face around town. I didn't even know he was the singer from Dynamic Hepnotics! There was a time I thought this was some Jo Jo Zep song. Other quality Dynamic Hepnotics songs are as follows: Dynamic Hepnotics - Gotta Be Wrong Anitpodes Dynamic Hepnotics - Hepnobeat (Audio + Video merge 2024) Dynamic Hepnotics - Believe Me Mark Sydow Dynamic Hepnotics - On Our Way Now nzoz1986 Dynamic Hepnotics - Whenever You're Ready nzoz1985 I'll work on a very early video called ''It Ain't Right'' just for the fun of it, and post up the title if ever you need to use it. Very early!

It's really great to see you guys still willingly checking out our pop musical past. I just love to sit and watch you guys react to the music I grew up on. I do watch your non-Australian content too, just so you know. I know a lot of the songs you do including yesterday's Leo Sayer one. I'll try to comment if it helps enhance the video's status. I really liked this song growing up as a kid in the 80's. England did this style of 80's soul music, but we also had our little scenes that took a stab at it. Keep up the great work.

I'm getting a kick out of this channel too! I watch other reaction channels and personally, I hate KZfaqrs that impersonate the Aussie accent in their intro or throw in an obnoxious ''G'day''. If I see a thumbnail that reads ''Down Under'' and it's to a reaction video I ignore it. The Haniers never do that and I appreciate it.

Directed by Doctor Fiona Cochrane. She was one out of a few 70's Countdown girls that got into making music videos in the 80's. You guys have no idea how much of an influence that show had on a generation of Australians. The make-up people had to do a bit of work to make singer, Robert ''Continenta'' Susz, look cool. He had the moves and confidence of a frontman, but the looks of a bank manager. If he could pass as a member of the original Dexy's Midnight Runners then it was a job well-done. I got to be one of the dancers in this video and can be seen a few times. Not going to point myself out, but I am definitely not one of the over-the-top Gothy looking chicks.

I played bass in a soul revival band back in the late 80s early 90s and we added this one and it NEVER failed to get people dancing. ‘Continental’ Robert Susz is their vocalist and he had a great delivery. That album Take You Higher had lots of great feeling tunes. This was the pick of the bunch for me and their debut hit. Gotta Be Wrong (Way To Love) got to top 20, but I think Whenever You’re Ready tops it easily. For a more modern good feeling tune with a soul styling I like Morcheeba’s Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day (studio version). Having steered you right once again I’ll gently but shamelessly plug Stanley Clarke’s song Lopsy Lu (studio version). Cheers!

I remember dancing to this song as a teenager and really liking it as a tune. I can't say it's my big 80's thrill. I don't get the same out of this song as I get from Go-West's ''We Close Our Eyes'' or Wham's big hits or A-ha, or local Aussie hits like Mental As Anything's ''Live It Up''. I remember hanging out with friends at malls or The Pancake Parlour and this tune would be on in the background and it was nice. I'm happy to see you guys do Dynamic Hepnotics, but I actually liked ''Hepnobeat'' more because the music video amused my simple little mind at the time. Pups... 🐕

I feel the same way, Pups. It was alright for its the time. It sold units, got its radio play and offended nobody. They were most likely peering into whatever was going on in England and thought they'd take a piece for themselves. They played the music they loved and earned themselves a couple of nice background hits. It was okay to hear when I was 14, and it's okay to hear now. I feel the same way about The Cat Empire. They're good, but so what?

I remember when these guys began in the very early 80's, and they were like an alternative to typical Oz pub rock. I class them along with a lot of other Sydney/Melbourne non-rock bands like Non Stop Dancers, No Nonsense, The Globos, Naughty Rhythms and Allniters. A lot of brass and soulful singing and 80's clothes. ''Soul Kind Of Feeling'' is probably the most successful from that era.

Good old Continental Robert and the boys. The drummer would join Mental As Anything in the 2000's before leaving God's green earth. There were a lot of bands of seasoned pro's that jumped on board the new wave of any style goes.. There were these swing bands, ska bands, jazz bands, soul bands and blues bands that were dressed up in a New Wave costume. When I think of these guys in the early 80's, I also think of The Mighty Guys. It was before the music industry figured out what New Wave was and how to sell it.

I can comment on these guys with authority because I was seeing them play at a club called Arthur's, which was a hop, skip and a jump away from where I lived in Potts Point. I also won their first EP ''Shakin' All Over'' in 1980, and asked Sydney's premier community radio station, 2JJ, to play their songs. They were playing around the same circles as The Allniters, who were a Sydney Ska group, and a lot of Hepnotics' audiences were made up of followers of the Melbourne rockabilly group, The Crackajacks. There was this cult of people that were into doing the 50's Rock'n'Swing dance style, and they would often attend Hepnotics' gigs. There's some crummy video on KZfaq of Dymanic Hepnotics performing ''It Ain't Right'', and you can see those dancers. The Ska people and the Mod people snubbed eachother off and never mixed, so DH's got those that fell in the middle. I was very happy to see them score a hit with ''Soul Kind Of Feeling'', and the follow-up ''Gotta Be Wrong''. If I was to ask you guys to check something out, could it be ''Hepnobeat'', ''It Ain't Right'' and ''Gotta Be Wrong''? The first two bring back memories of the early 80's. Seeing as I've made a request for a couple of D.Hep songs, could I please suggest one of my favourite Sports songs? I would love to see you guys react to ''The Sports - Live Work And Play (visual + video merge)''? I've always loved this song when it was played live and the live footage (which was taken from Nightmoves) captures the group's energy and Steve Cumming's charisma. The Sports had recorded a couple of versions of this particular song, but I only like the version that's on that ''visual + merge'' thing made by OnceWas. Anyway, that's my wee begging over. Thanks for checking out D.Heps.. I wish I thought of making this request.
