Elvis's chameleon voice changed multiple times in his very short life and career. His critically acclaimed recordings are in multiple genres of music. An iconic artist, the likes of which may never be seen again.

You will find any help you need from Elvis fans. Elvis was inducted into five halls of fame. No one like him. He’s STILL #1 in record sales...over a billion! He grew up in Tupelo Mississippi ghetto. The dirt poor blacks and whites were one. No craziness. Elvis did not have either electricity or plumbing in two room( literally) his daddy and uncle Built. Elvis moved to Memphis with entire extended family when he was 14. The rest is history. You may Get a better feel for Elvis in Elvis and the Black Community, part one and two. Hope this shed some light on things. You will fall in love with Elvis’ multi- talented gift. He’s an icon for sure. Thank you for taking time to listen and hear him. If you know Blacc Elvis reactions, he’s a full fledged fan of Elvis. He didn’t come to the table with that attitude, But now he’s dedicated to Elvis. I promise Elvis won’t disappoint any Time you give to him.

During a time of segregation...this song told everyone how he felt/what he believed in!!! Put so much heart & soul into this!!! The 2nd verse...it looks like he's trying not to breakdown! So much passion in his performance! And for it to be the last song of the night had great impact!!! The racial tensions were high ..it was after MLK & The Kennedy Bro's were killed!!!

To learn a little about his background, find “Elvis and the Black Community - that echo will never die”. Elvis grew up in poor neighborhoods that were primarily black. He sang in the choir of a Black Baptist church while in high school. He loved gospel, soul, rock & roll, & helped bring these into the entertainment mainstream along with other artists. He never forgot his cultural roots.

Elvis was devastated by MLK's murder. People tried to stop him from performing the song because it was too 'controversial'. But he went ahead & PASSIONATELY performed it on his special just months after MLK's murder.😢Please react to 'In The Ghetto' (Live at Vegas) - a sad but beautiful song that still applies today Elvis grew up in poverty, his father was in prison, so he and his mother lived in a shack - dirt poor - they depended on others for food. He grew up playing with all different races but mainly in the black community - he loved to go to the local church and sing gospel with the choir. Elvis himself was part Native American - he didn't see colour, he saw people. A true Gentleman who never forgot his roots. A rare, unique & truly special talent👑#TheKing

This song is a national treasure for sure. Goosebumps Beautiful yet painfully sad. 😔

Elvis grew up in the projects. He was very poor. He said he wouldn't wear jeans. Because that's what he wore being poor. He used to buy his clothes in the black district. His cook and her husband worked for him until he died. They were black and he loved them. He bought them a house. He gave away so much money so others would have good things. He looked past color. Which we all should. He was only 42 when he passed. Thank you for this. Check out his Hawaii special. Watch the whole show. God Bless you.

Elvis could have you dancing with joy one minute then crying in heartbreak the next when you saw him live. My first concert was Elvis when I was 10. I already had a huge crush on Elvis because I'd been listening to his music since I was a baby and then watching his movies as I grew older. I spent that whole concert crying. Silent tears ran down my face, in awe of how epic it was and afraid to blink in case I missed something. I was so embarrassed after it was over but all of the adults around me said I had nothing to be embarrassed about because that was just how most full grown women reacted the first time they saw him live as well.

This was Elvis' tribute to MLK who had been assassinated only 2 months before this was recorded. Elvis grew up in a black community in Tupelo MS in a poor family that struggled through life. In his childhood, when music was strictly seggregated, he was as much influenced as much by black gospel and rhythm and blues as white country & western. Are you in for 2 other out of this world performances: check out Polk Salad Annie and Suspicious Minds (both live in Las Vegas 1970). Love to see your reactions to those powerhouse performances.

I'm always happy when someone brings this performance to my attention because it is tremendous. It also breaks my heart that it's still so relevant all these decades later. Elvis knew doctor King and when he got the news of the assassination he was filming a movie and they had to shut down production for a day because Elvis went into a back room and curled up into a ball and just cried for hours. He really did give a shit. Also this was only a few months after the assassination and I think it was getting close to Christmas and so they wanted him to do a Christmas song for the finale that he absolutely insisted on doing this song for the ending. And you noticed that he is out of his white jumpsuit and his black leather and in a proper suit with a red tie to show respect. If you want to see how much you can go off, check out Suspicious Minds live in Las Vegas in the white jumpsuit. Or check out the early stuff which is what most of the Elvis impersonations are based on like you ain't nothing but a hound dog or Jailhouse Rock from his first movie.
