Okay I had to look this up because I never really thought that much about the gate at the end- "“I Hope You Dance” is a mid-tempo country pop ballad in which the narrator expresses her wishes to an unknown “you.” It was not written as a song from a parent to a child. Over time it has been adopted as a song for people who’ve lost someone, a song that encourages survivors to live life to its fullest 1. The closing of the gate at the end of the song is symbolic of closing one door and opening another. It represents moving forward and taking chances in life "

Oh. Cool. That is not exactly what I was thinking the song meant but that is of course a great way to see it and an obvious way to direct the MV based on the meaning of the song. I just thought it was her reminiscing and the gate is a way to put away those memories when it is time to get moving on something. That's cool though. We all have different ways to look at things. Isn't that wonderful? :)

You asked who is Lee Ann Womack? She's my 2nd cousins Jason Sellers ex wife, She sang this song for their daughter Aubrie Sellers. That's her in the video. The little one is Lee Ann's youngest with her new husband, who is her producer.

This song was played at my daughter's high school graduation. She was one of the thirteen who graduated from there. It was a special school for young mothers. I saw thirteen young, strong, and confident women step out into the world to give their children a better life. This song still makes me smile.

They just went through the gate to that magical place where they danced, I think. Not sure if it is anything deeper. I have heard this song at so many weddings for both father/daughter dances & mother/son dances. It would be great for graduation of birthdays. Such a beautiful, inspiring, uplifting song.

The ones who was doing the background vocals is Sons Of The Desert which was a country music band in the 2000's they had some great songs like "Whatever Comes First" "Leaving October Behind" , "Hands Of Fate" also they were the originals who sing "Goodbye Earl" before the Dixie Chicks (The Chicks) you can find Sons Of The Desert version on KZfaq, another good song from Lee Ann Womack is " I love a man with 18 wheels ( from the Black Dog Soundtrack).

I always thought the gate was maybe a metaphor for leaving a sheltered innocent childhood, and then stepping out into the real big world with all it’s choices and chances and pitfalls. It can be scary at times and that much harder to keep your balance and to keep “dancing”…
