Thank you for uploading the video. I'm Japanese. This movie is about earthquakes. The scene where many people say "Have a nice day" in the middle of the movie means that the person who died due to the earthquake could not go home (that is, he died). I cried when I saw this scene in the movie theater. It was a movie with a familiar theme for Japan, an earthquake-country. The scene where the child Suzume cried and looked for his mother at the end of this movie also cried. Because it is a translation app, it may not be correct English.

So do people die from earthquakes in Japan? I'm from Greece and we have a lot of earthquakes here too, we're pretty used to it, but usually they aren't strong enough for there to be victims.

@@meloni6280 Thank you for your comment from Greece. There are many earthquakes in Japan, but there are few deaths. However, a large earthquake with a magnitude greater than 7.0 is different. The earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024 and the Great East Japan Earthquake caused many deaths, especially in the tsunami. Japan is an earthquake-country, so we are taking a lot of measures, but there are many old buildings, and there may be deaths due to tsunamis and fires in the past. I'm using a translation app, so English may be wrong.🙇

@@user-vp6xv7xy5v So just as I thought then, thanks for confirming. Of course bigger earthquakes are deadly but those are rare. And tsunamis are even more deadly, just the thought of them is scary. I'm really sorry to hear there was a big eathquake recently by the way, I didn't know.

@@meloni6280 129 people died in the earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture on January 1, 2024. The most common cause of death was the collapse of the house. It seems that it is because there were many old buildings in the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. By the way, Earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.0 or higher have occurred in Japan every year since 2021. I also saw the video of the Great East Japan Earthquake, the tsunami is really scary.

March 11, 2011 14:46. The Great East Japan Earthquake (3.11) hit the Tohoku region of Japan. A major earthquake exceeding magnitude 9. A tsunami exceeding 10 meters in height engulfed the city and its people in an instant. The Fukushima nuclear power plant accident is also famous. The tsunami killed more than 20,000 people.... Suzume and her mom were also there. It was a shocking disaster even for us Japanese people, who are accustomed to all kinds of disasters such as large earthquakes, typhoons, floods, landslides, and volcanic eruptions.

I remember walking out of this movie with my friends and we were talking about it, even though the movie didn't mention it specifically, I knew they were talking about the Tohoku earthquake from 2011, and the tsunami that occurred because of it. The "See you later" from all the people who lived there just crushed my soul. Those were the last words many families heard from their loved ones.

I don't think I have said it yet, but you have a such a beautiful soul, dude. Never be ashamed for being sensitive about these topics. Also, the cat was probably cold and arrogant, because he was forced to be a keystone by the family of Souta. So, "im gonna curse you because you cursed me" type of thing. But he cared for Suzume, because she released him, and were very nice to him, feed him, and such. Just wanted to become her cat.

The last scene of this movie is packed with everything that Makoto Shinkai, the director of ``Your Name,'' ``Weathering With You,'' and ``Suzume,'' wanted to convey over the past six years. A scene that is truly worthy of a culmination.

P.S Suzume was the first-ever anime I saw in cinema (5-10 years ago you wouldn't even dream about seeing an anime in my local cinema lol; especially in my very small post-soviet country). 1:16:00 The OST always gets me, I feel a lump in my throat even typing this. Also: 1:18:38 warms my heart. Its KIKI!!!! Ahhh, good old Kiki's Delivery Service! I know, I know the song is much older, but thats where I know it from! This is one of my favorite movies, its beautiful and impactful and so emotional. It sticks with you for such a long time. One of the messages that I think some people might miss from the movie is: You have to live. Things happen in life, don't just stay stagnant. Get out there and live. Meet people, experience life. Thats what Suzume was experiencing on her journey across the country. People living their lives, its such a beautiful thing. Still... the "See you later" from the memories towards the end, that has me bawling my eyes out every time, and I've seen this movie like six times by now. I'm so glad that Luke watched it and enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed watching your reaction to SUZUME.🧡 Sota's voice actor in this movie is one of the six-member Japanese vocal group called SixTONES, which you posted a reaction video of the other day (The First Take). Sota is played by a man (Hokuto Matsumura) who dyed half of his hair blonde in The First Take. As a voice actor, he was recently nominated in the voice actor category at the Annie Awards in the United States. I look forward to seeing your reaction videos to his movies and SixTONES!🥰

Japan has a lot more earthquakes than the US, which is why they seem casual about earthquakes. Plus, the buildings are made to be really strong to earthquakes, and unless the earthquake is very big, not much casualties or destruction is expected.

This is literally their worst movie. If you think about it is morally totally absurd. The girl does the Disney princess shit and falls in love on first sight. The guys family decided to force the young cat god into darkness and cold for all eternity despite the story showing us that they themselves could have fulfilled that role. Yet the young cat has to sacrifice itself again so that the girl can be with the older man whom she really doesn't know. What about the dude's grandfather, he apparently was dying, why did he not try to do something for everyone at the end and become the eternal sealing pillar. The story is so morally obscure to me I find it strange that no one really picked this up. Imagine like a family line just going out looking for a small child from somebody else and sacrificing it for the "greater good" despite the child being unwilling to do so. The family says to the child and its family: hey sorry we gotta do that despite the ability to sacrifice ourselves, but you see our adult son just met the minor girl and they really want to hook up so you gotta be the sacrifice. oh we also cannot sacrifice somebody else from our family even if they are on the literal deathbed, because you know, reasons and so on" I mean I can comprehend this going above the heads of small children, but adults should have the capacity to understand this.

Lmao and? You think you're some kind of movie critic? I can garentee what you think is amazing a lot of people will find shit lol its personal taste after all. Your summary isn't great and doesn't even follow what's actually going on. you don't even understand the whole transferring of the keystone and just assume someone on their death bed can take the place of keystone 😂. Also no he didn't want to hook up with suzume, he never once made an advance towards her, suzume on the other hand just had a crush like all teenage girls get. Also I wouldn't recommend this for children, the language and some of the scenes are not child friendly. This is more for teens and young adults dispite it's age rating.

@@cake94309 wow it is amazing about how you complain about me apparently not understanding, but yet don't understand half of what I said and even perceive perspectives from the wrong. Well maybe you did that on purpose, to create an angle for yourself to argue from since you have no real argument and are just angry you yourself didn't get those parts of the movie and being pointed to them makes you angry. So angry that you have to make false counter arguments to validate your opinion of the movie.

@@seynoonrae2474 again you don't even understand the plot and assume the main characters are just out to hook up 🤣 you really think the grandfather can replace his grandson who has become the keystone 🤣. You dont even understand their job as a closer is to just close these gateways they arent even meant to become keystones. You really should stick to shit more on your level like sesame Street lmao. I actually understand the story fine that's why I have no issue with it. And you want to say I'm doing shit on purpose "to create an angle for yourself" when you haven't addressed anything I mentioned, you really like calling the kettle black. Just because you think it's shit doesn't mean it actually is lol you just have poor taste
@McMillanTAC

This is the dumbest breakdown I've read and it's not because I disagree with your judgement, everyone has their own opinion, but you just don't understand the movie at all. If you had the faintest idea about Japanese folklore you'd know that it's not that they took a god and turned it into a keystone - they made a keystone that became a god from age and most likely worship. These keystones are hundreds if not thousands of years old and objects gain souls with that significant of a "lifespan" - especially if they are of great importance to people. Their entire purpose for existence is being a keystone and Daijin simply rebelled. Probably because of Suzume's question - gods in Japan tend to take words very literally. We also see the other keystone being familiar with the Old man so something like this already happened and it did not go as bad as here because Grandpa is a specialist that wouldn't ask the keystone to become his cat lmao. Also from what Grandpa said you can kinda (not very clear because it's not important to the movie) determine that it's not eternal for mortals (he said clearly "Sota will spend decades as a keystone", not "eternity" which would have more of an impact than saying decades if it were true). If Grandpa went and did the job he'd probably die very soon after. Even the shore Sota was locked in represents the brink of death in their culture. He was still mortal yet less and less human over time. Would the chair still hold if he died while being there? There's no telling because it's not important to the plot at all and we don't have 3 12 episode seasons to muddle the script with this. Suzume did not fall in love at first sight. They spent few entire days together and she saw Sota as a child to later get to know each other pretty well out of a teenage crush. She can't remember what happened in her memories almost at all but she said (while looking for him at the beginning) "Have we met somewhere" and the entire movie is her getting in trouble because of her faded memory and loss of her mother and then by finally understanding the memory being able to move forward. Every since young Suzume got lost in the Ever After, she was locked into doing what happened in the movie. If she wasn't she'd look at the door, try to go in and just leave without touching Daijin at all (or literally anything else could have happened). She had to go through this or her younger self would probably be forever lost in there with obvious paradox happening. Just like you need to actually process a loss, especially if it happened to you before you were equipped to deal with it. It's a direct metaphor for trauma like c'mon! Remember that not all of the world works on Christian morality and applying your sense of moral superiority to entertainment from another culture blinds you from truly experiencing said culture through that piece of entertainment. Especially when you just misunderstood the thing. Kind Regards
