This was the show that blew Dimash to superstardom in China and started his growth around the world. Opera2 was the second performance of The Singer competition in 2017 in China. The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among others. He was still completely unknown in China. Actually, it was intended that he would only have 1 or 2 appearances. But it came completely different. When he woke up the next morning after his first performance of SOS he was a megastar in China and even found bodyguards outside his hotel room. SOS’ first video had 600 million views when it aired. In the Singer version he was so sick and had a severe sore throat and fever. He lost his voice the night before his performance of Daybreak. I heard him say in an interview that it was very painful throughout the song, that his throat feels like shredded glass but he didn’t want to disappoint the people who stand behind him and so he pulled himself together and went on stage. He got 5 injections from this doctor in the hospital. And the doctor told him not to sing high notes. You can see how concerned the other competitors were and they suffered with him. They knew he was not doing well and one of them even gave him a very expensive Chinese medicine from his own inventory. The problem was his busy schedule between the performances and he didn’t have enough time to recover. He made very good friends there and many friendships still exist today. After the performance he lost his voice again. It’s unbelievable how he always manages to convey emotions to such a degree. Though I think in this one particular version the emotions he shows are mostly concern about his voice keeping up with the song and the pain he must have been in doing it. You also will get a lot of recommendations of this song from his Bastau concert. But I think you later will appreciate the Bastau version even more if you’ve seen The Singer version before. If you know the background story, the force with which the song hits you will have a completely different dimension. In my opinion it loses at bit of its impression, if you don’t know why he sings, the way he sings. The Bastau version (no sore throat) of Daybreak is phenomenal and mind-blowing. I don’t know why I have to cry more. Because of the story or the fact, that he was in such pain and performed anyway because he didn’t want to disappoint the audience. "The Singer" is a very hard competition in China. The show in 2017 changed Dimash's life. In China was the name for his fans "Dears" born. Dimash was invited again as a guest in 2018 for a performance with the song "Hello". Since then, he has been regularly at events in China and also holds concerts there. You literally had chill?! Well, Dimash is the ONLY artist who can give me goosebumps and chills each and every time I listen to him. I have listened to many different types of music and liked a lot of pop artists over the years, Beatles, MJ, etc, but none of them render me in total awe and amazement and completely impressed and admiration like Dimash. 💥LONELY ! He lives traditionally, grandparents, whole family under one roof, they don't leave home before marriage, the men bring their brides home to live, family and friends around all the time. Alone for months in China with an interpreter and coach, didn't speak the language, his calls became VERY lonely. His Father flew in and sat in the audience to surprise him, the crew knowing, the camera keeps panning him, the man with the arm pump at the end ! He never left. In an interview, his Mother said since, at least one family member and a friend(s) travels with him, they spell each other off. He's used to family and friends around all the time and performs better. Never know it watching this professional performance.

Yes, this is the competion. After he sings he sees his dad in the audience, big hugs, then as they walk back stage he asks his father "did I sing well", later in an interview he says he was embarrassed that his dad watched him flirting with the audience. He is so sweet and humble.

This was the second week of The Singer 2017 competition in China. He did not win because according to rules a foreigner couldn't win but rules were changed for the next year.

I wish you had used the linger video as it showed his father coming to surprise and support him. His family had become concerned about how homesick he sounded on his phone calls home. His dad took a leave of absence from his job to come support Dimash. He would only leave if spelled by another family member or friends of Dimash.
