I didn't let anybody see or know it but: after having had some rough teenager years at home I used to have difficulties dealing with people treating me nice and being friendly to me. It was just new and unusual to me. Now I don't have those difficulties anymore.

I relate to Kai so much. I was a foster kid after my Mom died when I was a teenager. I was terrified to show emotion. It was seen as a major flaw by my foster parents because I wasn't "normal" like their bio kids. Watching you love him exactly how he is has warmed my heart more than anything I've ever seen.

The Costco trip is a rights of passage in Peter's home! Peter is very intentional about these trips... another bonding experience! I can already see how much more comfortable Kai is.

I love that you're teaching him now, to read labels, recognize his sugar intake and choose healthier options and eat junk sparingly. I'm 53 and I've been overweight since childhood. Just now learning how to eat whole, clean foods with low carbs and almost no sugar. You're giving him the gift of health and long life! Praise God!

The food negotiations are for real! A huge obstacle when bringing in new kids and for them to be in that new environment. I appreciate you all being open about the reality of the "food fights".

Yes! Food is so deeply rooted in what is familiar, comforting and safe. It can be hard even as adults to find ourselves in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar foods. It's such a deeply nurturing thing to both make sure children get properly nourished but also recognize the importance of favored snacks for them to truly feel "at home." This episode is beautiful and I love how it coincided with his birthday.

Daddy Man, Congrats on the new addition to the family. You need to get a pro photographer to take a pic of you three and the dog and frame it and place it on a prominent wall in your home. Adopted children really respond to these displays of family. The shopping spree was a great idea. Kai is starting to come out of his shell. How awesome is that? You are a good father.

Peter I love how you watch what the kids eat..Your are teaching them healthy lessons..I wish I had learned when I was young..but when ur young you dont think anything is going to hurt you..Once I had kids I taught my kids to eat healthy..And kids just dont understand certain foods and meds can cause cancer and NUMEROUS other problems..I had over a 3 inch tumor caused just from zantac...Peter your such a loving generous man and the boys are so lucky to have you..in yrs to come they are going to look back and say " HE SAVED ME"..AND you did it all for love..No rewards just bc your such a honest loving man...May God bring you and the boys so many Blessings that your overwhelmed with them..( amen)

This very so true for me, too! Growing up my family prepared a lot from scratch, bought only what we needed and never bought brands. We almost never ate at restaurants. That's why now that I have all the options, grocery shopping excites me, too. haha :D

KJ, when my boys were at hm we called it the $300 dollar club because we never got out without under 300 dollar bill and many more times over... Teenage boys can put the food away.. They eat 1xday but it's all day long... LOL

Peter, I feel your pain. I have 3 boys I shop for and they do the same thing. You are not alone but the kiddos know they are loved and cared for! Costco is the only place I do grocery shopping. That cheeky reach for the bag at the end, amazing. I’m reminded of my five cats, as soon as we stand up they think it’s lunch. Those are some good snacks and chips are at least lower in sugar. I wonder if they’d enjoy baking their own stuff.

Poor baby Kai has trust issues. But to see Peter loving him as is and just being patient with him boy that helps a ton. Adult with major trust issues here. This was wholesome to watch. Both Kai and Anthony are such good kids. Peter you are awesome man. Watched another recent video and Kai seemed more chill and to see the difference from a few months to a few weeks ago is beautiful.

Anthony should do some more baking to meet their sugar cravings. His last effort was good. I have to say you Americans buy a lot of bulk 'not so healthy' food and drink. Teenage boys need their calories! Ha ha ha! I went to Costco yesterday to stock up so I can stay home and not go out! I bought more than I expected. My Costco is a great place to get supplies for protecting against the virus. Hand sanitizer, masks,visiors,and sanitizing wipes. Kai Happy Birthday! Anthony you are doing so well directing the video!
