Nice little axe for the money. It has a very solid feel and is comfortable in the hand.

I haven't had too many problems with it rolling or chipping along the edge, but in all fairness, when I know I'm about to do something real destructive like rooting stumps and such I get the old hardware store cheapo and save the better axes for felling. Thanks for watching, Dan

@SpartanJohns: Thanks for the comment. Yeah, it is not what I would call a "bushcraft" axe. Definately no where near a Wetterlings or GB. I really bought it as a beater for clearing some rough swamp areas around the property and was super impressed. It really does look like a toy though until you hold it in your hands and do some chopping with it lol :)

You did a good job with this review. I recently got this axe and am also very impressed with it. Tried it out a few days ago and couldn't believe how easy it was to take down 4 trees that were about 6 to 8" in diameter. My intended purpose is to use it as a camp axe. It's 24" or so length fits perfectly on the side of my ILBE main pack - slid down inside the side sleeve of the pack. I have no doubt it will make short work of chopping up firewood for camping with minimal calories used.

Nice review SC, thanks. We reviewed the X15 back in July and really liked it as well. Great axe for the money.

If by camping you mean car camping, I would say definately. It is better than a hatchet or most other axes, in my opinion, because the head is profiled in such a way and has enough weight that it splits easily. It doesn't get stuck in the wood like a lot of the other small axes. Also it is well balanced and very comfortable to use. For backpacking type camping it might be heavier than you would like, the Husqvarna I reviewed in another video is more suited to carry but it doesn't split as well.

Nice axe. It's pretty good for the money. I am pleased with the one I have. The negative for me is slight edge rolling that occurs, due to the scandi or hollow ground edge; on Bladeforums, a gentleman said that they now come at 55 RC. It's not a bushcraft axe like you indicate, but not a bad one either, and it doesn't feel overtly heavy. Thanks for the review, there are not many on this X15 model.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I have the X7 also and I agree, it is really good, especially for the money. Gerber's little hatchet with the knife built into the handle looks kinda cool to me too, it is a Fiskars as well. Been thinking about picking one up, just kind of iffy about whether the knife is any good. Have a good one, Dan

I have one of those babies along with the smaller version (x7). Made a leather sheath for both of them. All you need is afew pieces of scrap leather and a few items (snaps, rivets, sinew) all can be had from tandy leather. Nice video, becareful with your fingers, have a friend that clip a nice piece out of his index finger doing what you had just done. He was smoking while processing some wood, I guess smoke got in his eyes, either way we never let him live it down.

@disillusions Thanks :) Yeah, I was really shocked at how this little axe bites. I cut down some fair sized sweet gum trees with it and if you know anything about sweet gum, that is some tough wood..It whacked right through them like you wouldn't believe. As for going in a pack, I have a Kelty Red Cloud and it fits just right in the sleeves under the side pockets. I tried it in the sleeve behind the center pocket on my ALICE pack and it didn't do too bad either.

I always looked at fiskars axes more like something of an axe you keep in your garage. But that scandi edge might come in handy when it comes to quick sharpening. It is high visibility and as you said "any axe is better then no axe at all" I would also like a wetterlings hatchet. I have the GB Hunters axe, and am very satisfied with that one but it is a bit big to stuff in my backpack. Cool demo on the wood.

Nice looking axe i really like the double edged axes. That reminds me i should put the double edged axe heads get handles for them. Used one to chop up a tree that the wind took down into small peices. A good axe is a wonderful tool.

@MrCookiemonster30 Glad it is working out for you better now :) That is one drawback of these axes as far as an around the house or gardening\trenching type of tool. If you have to work at ground level the edge will get damaged pretty quick, no matter how careful you are. I keep an old $15 Truper around for rooting around stumps or any ground level stuff and pretty much just use the good ones for clearing swampland and cutting trees where 10" of stump left above ground doesn't matter.

@MrCookiemonster30 Thanks for watching and commenting. It is a cool little axe, and pretty durable so far. Just curious, what kind of wood are chopping with it to roll the edge? I put a beating on this axe on some good hard cherry the first day I got it and it didn't damage the edge a bit, nor has it happened since. You might have a defective heat treat and could exchange it for a fresh one if that is going on. Thanks, Dan

Probably not a SHTF\WROL type situation but for a "I'm going into the woods and might need to stay a few weeks" situation, definitely yes. The only thing that stops me from saying this axe would last forever is the way the handle is made. If the handle ever broke (unlikely if you are careful, but still possible) you would be stuck with a crudely crafted loop over handle at best or a hand axe at worst. Thanks for watching and I hope that helps.

That sheath is really just made to hang it in the store or in your garage and not made to carry in your pack. I threw mine away when I got mine and made a good leather one to carry mine in. The plastic one wears out pretty quick. Good video ! Good job !

@SCBushcraft You know come to think of it, I am sure it is user error. In other words, my fault. I was chopping 6 dead fig trees from a relative's yard that had very low trunks and there were softball sized rocks around the base, as the trees were sunken in a little. So, I am certain I must have glanced a rock; if that's the case I would say the temper is adequate. I have since sharpened the roll and split some wood w/out problems.

Apparently it has come to a place where text based communication is increasingly prevalent but no one has figured out a system to allow the nuances of voice conversation (i.e. sarcasm, laughter) to be effectively conveyed via text. Also it has come to a place where I am an idiot and didn't read the comment directly above yours before replying, hence the mis-understanding...Sorry bro, I was wrong. Dan

Chinese gongs...we have a hippie commune across the road...they have strange tastes in music... long story...Lol :D Not really. It's a rail yard up the hill a ways from us. They work two 12 hour shifts 6 days a week. On a good note, stalking game is easier here because the animals all have hearing damage lol :))
