Exactly. We do this with our bicycles for the same reasons you just detailed. Weird how some riders don't do it for their motorcycles. Keep up the great teaching that you do so well.

Adjusted them slightly, couple of months ago....n now my wrist feels more relaxed... especially during long rides on twisties 🤗 Simple but effective 🖤

I recently bought a new GSX-R750 and the levers were set straight ahead. My wrists were hurting and getting way tired while they were set that way. I changed the angle downwards 3 rides later and noticed an immediate difference in how much more comfortable my wrists were. They no longer hurt and they no longer feel strained or tired while going for a ride.

Great advice, I always ride with my index resting on my Brake lever. I'm always Trail Braking and it also makes my reaction instant when I need to Brake.

Crazy timing!!! As a bicyclist I build and adjust my bike perfectly for me. Shifters and brakes are so easy to perfect!!! (And clutches!) while covering my brake with two fingers always, I got a little slack today and found my two fingers were slack for quick action. I’ve adjusted my lever proximity, but not the perfect angle! Thank you so much for some of the finest guidance on best motorcycling practicess!!! You have taught me a lot of good techniques and habits! I still have good questions I wish I could pose to you. Carry on professor!

So glad I subscribed to your channel as you are a superb wealth of information for all riders...best advice yougave that I have seen in yours vids is RELAX when riding ....watched your tank slapper vid and it was right on .... 57 yrs old , last ride was Sportster 1200 Ironhead 27 years ago. Just bought a 100th anniversary Superglide but thinking its not the right bike for me. Im 6 ' 5" tall and even when I put the extended forward controls on , add T bar with 6 inch lift it still feels like Im sittin on high on bike. Any ideas? Outstanding channel man ...

Crucial information! I've had my fair share where the manufacturers keep the brake and clutch levers almost parallel to to the grips. Having it adjusted lower, helps with good leverage, comfortable palm placement and a wrist that's happy!

Probably worth mentioning to check the controls don't foul anything at full lock after adjustment. Can you do a video on span adjustment too? If you haven't already?

Twenty years ago I've asked my dealer an ex racer, to do that adjustment to my supersport (1:40) he smiled and said: it's obvious that you used to ride off road Enduro etc. LEAVE the bike as it is.... and tuck your elbows in to your ribs! that's how supersport bikes (clipons) are meant to be riden. 😊

Fantastic tip Fast Eddie. If the brake lever is too high and you emergency brake the throttle revs as you lift your fingers to go for the brake, the opposite of what you want in that situation. Keep up the great vids and tutorials. Cheers Marty from Melbourne 🇦🇺

Love your channel and content. I watch all your videos and reviews. I used to live in San Diego so your ride reviews always bring back great memories. But this was an awesome and informative video. For the most part, the sports bikes I've purchased in the past (Gixxer and Ducati) have had decent ergos/set-up with the brake and clutch levers already and I've never had to adjust them. But right now I'm having major OCD with the lever angle placement with my 2023 HD Breakout and 2024 HD Low Rider S. I changed out the grips on both of them and had to loosen the master cylinders which changed the angle placement of the levers-I forgot to mark where they were originally so my OCD is kicking in big time. With HDs it's more of an upright riding position and my arms are straight out. I found that I like the brake lever slight lower than level (I'm almost always riding with 2 fingers on it anyway), and the clutch lever ever-so-slightly higher than level. After dealing with my OCD to get each bike 100% perfect, I think I finally found the best angles for both bikes. Thanks for this video and reaffirming my decision.

Good tip, I see a lot of people have their levers turned up, it's sometimes a sign that they don't use the front brake. One thing I picked up from rising dirt bikes forever, was to set the levers a little farther pointed down if I was standing up a lot, positioned for standing. And to not tighten them up rigid, leave them a "little" loose, not floppy loose, but enough to let them move if you fall over. Better than trying to ride out without a clutch lever!

Good to raise this agian for some people as this as its not something that gets thought about unless you get a specific bike fit for your own body shape Unfortunately some bikes now particularly as I found out on my R1 (Sports bike) , the angle can not be adjusted as they have a fixed locating dowel, real pain ... Another good video .

I am 5'7 I find the bar a little forward. I need more upright. How high is the spacer and what size. This bike has Renthal Fat bar. Any recommendations?

Yes

Lever position has been hotly debated for eons. Go to a MotoGP, or AFT, or Supercross and check-out the lever setup of the best riders on the planet. You'll see lots of variety. Maybe you should educate them. ;)

I always adjust the levers and this minor thing makes a huge difference. On my Gen 3 Hayabusa with bar riser the levers are at an awkward angle (okayish without the bar riser). When I adjusted them the bike felt much more natural, like I've been riding it for a year already.

i bought my first bike a month ago ( yamaha r15m) its pretty aggressive and first thing i did was this got those lever lower it makes soo difference specially in place like india with lot of stop and go traffic so cant hold the bike with tank all the load come on to wrist but getting them lower was good decision

I ride with front brake elevated. I'm compensating for my throttle position 😆 Dangling a small child from the throttle should result in a 3 quarter twist IMO

I always have brake lever pointed down for reasons mentioned. I keep my clutch control level with the bar. For me it's far more comfortable on my wrist and fingers. Everyone should adjust their controls for maximum comfort and control for themselves. Try out different variations. I recommend changing handlebars too if needed. Also you can change out levers. All of these things combined can enhance your riding. Again, if YOU need it. Everyone has different styles, comfort zones, needs, etc... But everyone should check their controls.

You read my mind man... I'm taking some days off the bike because my right thumb is hurting (plus my work doesn't help with "recovery") and I actually thought about this (and soon, bar risers) but my question is: is there any problem having your brake reservoir tilted?

Always a compromise between seated for street and standing for off road. Wish they made a quick adjust like bicycle seats have.

How do you like the SV compared to the MT09 or MT10?

If the levers are too high, you might not close the throttle completely when grabbing the brake in an emergency and if the levers are too low you might have to reach too much for them which would cost you precious seconds in an emergency.

Does it mean when you use an ape hanger, you need to position your levers higher than level instead of lower than level? I just bought a small cruiser and levers hang a little lower just like in this video. But it gives me discomfort. I observed that my forearms are just parallel to the ground when I hold the handlebars. That's why I plan to raise the levers. I hope it won't mess up with the mirrors!

Greatly depends on your riding position and posture, but I do agree that it is weird the amount of pain people endure and then blame the bike.

I have this problem. I own a Kawasaki Ninja zx6r 2004 and it is very difficult for me to adjust the brake handles, clutches and steering wheel, because I have to disassemble everything and place the gas cables above the brake hose. I don't know how to adjust the handlebars to make my position less strenuous? Pull the handles towards you, or away from you? I am 184 cm tall. Thank you for every video, and tips 😁😎

I mean, we should be trying to keep our arms super soft on the bars, elbows down loose.. but I agree should ever be going up before hitting the lever..

I used to angle my brake levers on my peddle bike when I was a kid

0:55 Ooh just realized this paint is a candy. Very pretty in the sun! But god help you if you ever try to touch up a scratch! I can make them completely invisible on my car, but no combination of techniques and countless hours of careful work has EVER yielded even a good repair on my candy blue bike. (Short of a full repaint.)

On Ninja 300, if you’re tall enough, you can’t get the levers in the right position because the brake reservoir interferes with the handlebar posts. 😬

What do I do if the levers are touching top of orbs but it’s still too high ???

Never had those issues with my Ducati's I've owned, always been on point with the brake/clutch position, I've owned other brands as well and they've been hit or miss, interesting how different certain manufacturers differ

This is one of those advices that you ignore at your own peril. If you ride your bike for atleast 20min in a busy area you will know when the levers are off and need adjusting.

learn how to hold your hands properly. then learn how to regulate. you ride on straight arms - like on sticks.

As an adventure rider you stand up a fair bit on the pegs while on the trail...... then what.? careful calling out the "mistakes".
