FWIW FL Studio runs at up to 80 Bit internally for audio processing in FL Studio 32 Bit and 64 Bit internally for FL Studio 64 Bit. The final audio output is converted back to 32 Bit float for export. This is about avoiding audio artifacts when processing things like filters etc.

Also, ID3 tags in MP3 right in the beginning of the file are there by design. It's been designed so that right after you tune in to a internet radio station you get the song title.

Thank you so much for the upload! having been using FL myself since like 2003, I always thought when it comes to rendering stuff in the ''rendering dialogue'' to tick all the boxes under the Quality bit, and end up with somewhat distorted remix. After watching your video, i turned these options off and, BANG! perfect mix. thanks once again for for your valuable information!

If ur having probs exporting... Say the export doesn't play exactly how your arrangement sounds in the playlist... you can put Edison on the "selected channel" ... Select the master ... Hit record on Edison and play your finished product. Edison will capture it beautifully. Peace x

SeamlessR i'm pretty sure 'trim pdc' is similar to cutting the remainder - it's cutting the silence in the beginning, caused by the pdc. All in all the pdc is pretty important, but if you have a bus for drums, you also need to bus the rest, so it can be calculated correctly.

I might be wrong on this but I'm pretty sure that the setting in the Limiter that causes more PDC to occur is actually the lookahead. The reasoning I have behind that is that some of the other plugins that I have that have lookahead also cause some weird delay issues. I've had a couple project files now get wonky because of stupid amounts of plugins with lookahead and I think sends/bussing has some kind of effect on it too.

Actually, TS404 is still in FL 12, but they did't update its interface to be vectorial. If we open it, a message appears, telling you that the internal engine is still working, but the graphical engine is not. So it keeps producing sound, but you can't tweak any knobs.

What if I had a huge project open, with stuff all over the playlist, then I wanted to cut a small part from a vocal sample, add reverb to that individual part and render it out? If I render it as the full song, the entire song will be rendered, what if I only want that sample? Would I have to use a plugin like Edison or something?

you should make a video on the very basics of making music. I want to start and have absolutely no idea how to start and when I look for things and how to start it just gets jarbled up and makes no sense. Do a video on the absolute basics. What is the one thing you need and what to do to work off of that... The first software you start with and than the next softwares then hardware then plug ins and so on until you have a complete workstation. after that the basics of everything and how to know what to do to get what you want... This would help people like me out and could be something that gets you out there because people like me looking for this type of thing and wanting to learn but don't know how to even take the first step. I've been trying to find the answer anywhere online still no luck. The part where you talked about just switching all of the buttons off in the quality section to make it sound exactly how you hear it in your project, yeah in this case it didn't work for me. The problem is specific it has to do with Kontakt 5's Session Strings Pro library. I recorded my chords with various keyswitches and everything and it sounds so ncie in the project but once i render the whole project in 24bit .wav those strings get cut off at times. Like they're losing voices at times or something. Ended up testing many things and after 17 renders still didn't get it. All the rest instruments sound exact same even other Kontakt 5 libraries but this specific 1 just doesn't want to render the sound correctly.I feel like it cuts the notes short once i keyswitch to legato mode in session strings pro but there must be some kind of fix for this. I thought okay maybe after FL 12 i need to upgrade my computer but even leaving 1 Kontakt 5 instance of session strings in the entire project and rendering it out it still cuts the notes and doesn't render through. If you got any solution for me i'd love to hear it, you know a lot more about the technical stuff than me.

Too bad i didn't get it all because of my english... Let's say that i really don't care about file size but i really want the exact same sound as whats playing in FL are my settings ok ? : wav 32 bits / 24 point-sinc( same as in my FL audio settings) / all quality options unchecked / only trim pdc delay on in miscellaneous options. Also i use Asio4all at 44100hz sample rate on FL and i've seen that my pc is set up to 48000hz is it a problem ?(in order to get the same sound as in FL) Tanks for the video !!!

Also another thing that has been bugging me for a long time. Does different DAW have different reference values for 0dbfs. Or does it depend on the audio interface only ? If it depends on the DAW then does that mean some DAW will sound louder than others ? The reason I am asking this is because people always tell me that Protools and Logic sound louder than FL. Please shed some light on this...

Where do you suggest I go for learning how to mix/master (whatever its called) songs? I've been messing around with fl for over a year now. Ive finished a few songs, Im pretty good with chords and melodies since I play piano and know what sounds good together but when it comes to actually completing a song then mixing it to where it all sounds GREAT together I get stuck. I usually just mess around until I sorta like it but there has to be some tutorial some where or guide to follow just to learn how everything in the mixer works.
@IanStarGem
@IanStarGem 9 жыл бұрын
Sam Here's a tip for mixing: When I start a track, I usually don't mix anything for a while. After 10 minutes to an hour of starting off the track, I'll mix it. 1. Start by solo EQing everything. 2. Turn all the faders down. 3. Start turning them back up, starting with the kick. Turn the kick up until it's about -6dB on the master. 4. Turn the snare up, the hats, then everything else. 5. Utilize EQ to clean up anything you can't hear. If your snare's lowest audible frequency is 200Hz, then why should there be anything lower than that? 6. Feel free to add any effects (Saturation, compression, EQ) but only if the sound needs it, or you feel you could make the sound sound better. Going off of this is good because when you add in new sounds you can just turn them all the way down, then slowly bring it back up until it fits. A tip for mastering: 1. EQ the mixdown. High pass it at 30Hz, Low pass it at 16-20kHz. This prevents DC offset and aliasing. DC offset is inaudible but can affect compressors. Aliasing is explained in this video. 2. Multiband compress it. Compress the low end, add slight saturation. Compress the mids, add some strong saturation. Compress the highs, add full extreme saturation. Then, saturate the master band and turn the levels up/down until it sounds right.

I've had issues rendering in the 64-bit version of FL Studio 12, that is only fixed when I go into compatibility mode. I'm thinking that this is due to the plugins and how not all of them are 64-bit and some are 32-bit. However I'm not the expert and would like some clarification as to why the rendering would stop around halfway, and freeze (causing issues with the actual files, ie not being able to delete due to corruption's of the file). And if you are reading this, thank you for the time you invest in us fans, and amateur producers.

I'm having the mixer resampling at 64-point sinc and I render at 512-point sinc. I THOUGHT this was to get (near) the best quality, but if I got it right, if I would set both on 2-point linear, it will also give a good quality? I knew about aliasing before, therefore I'd set the mixer resampling on 64-point sinc. so should I keep working on 64? or also render on 64?
@MarkRidesCoasters
@MarkRidesCoasters 9 жыл бұрын
***** to get back on that: I rendered a loop of my track on 512-point sinc and the same loop on 64-point sinc. when reversing the polarity, they don't cancel eachother out: there's a difference. but I can't really tell the difference by hearing.
@SeamlessR
@SeamlessR 9 жыл бұрын
***** the resampling quality only matters on recorded samples that have frequencies higher than the nyquist limit (half the sample rate). sometimes it sounds better, most of the time the differences are only noticeable when you do something like the polarity test to see if there are differences. 2 point linear will do no anti aliasing at all. It does not affect the quality of anything else.

When you talk about Krakatoa explosion you are talking about dBspl (Sound Pressure Level). When you are talking about voltage levels in analog audio equipment its dBu or dBm. In digital systems its DBFS which is different from other units in that it is relative. For eg: some audio interfaces sets the converter reference output level as 0 dbfs =+4d+12dBu , some as 0dbfs= +12dBu etc. So its kinda confusing when you refer to all them as just 'db'. So when you say the limit of 32 bit is like 1600db are you talking about dbfs...?
@SeamlessR
@SeamlessR 9 жыл бұрын
***** I knew it felt like I was talking out of my ass. In this instance I'm pretty sure it's dbfs. I'm not actually sure at all about the +1600 db figure either. The basic idea is that relative to what you're used to with 24 bit, your headroom is so far beyond anywhere you're likely to reach without actively trying.
@QrchackOfficial
@QrchackOfficial 9 жыл бұрын
SeamlessR Fellow guy (recently started building a DIY modular, so I have kinda fresh knowledge in terms of audio and the like) Basically, dB is the ratio of two power levels. For amplitude, 1 dB is 20*log(10)A2/A1. That means 6dB means the other signal is 2x louder than the first one. 20dB means it is 10x louder. You can go other way round, -6dB is half the volume, -20dB is 1/10th the volume. The higher ratios you are, the less dBs you need to add to add the same amount, just like frequencies in a logarythmic scale (think Parametric EQ2, lows and highs). That said, dB says just about the ratio. You need to refer it to something. In digital the reference is digital 0dB, and the lowest point is -inf dB. Therefore everything has to be on minus (quieter than 0dB). Some common reference points outside of digital are 1 volt (dBV), square root of 0.6V (which is about 0.77V and makes dBu - that's what the analog VU meters visualize), sound pressure of 20 μPa (dB SPL - commonly used for mics and speakers), 1 mW of power (dBm), maximum amplitude which the device can use without clipping (dbFS, which you were talking about. It's also relative, and the value will vary between microphones and interfaces, each has different amount of headroom in which it can operate, so scales will be different as well). For fair comparison you'd need to use dB SPL, which will tell you about the pressure the sound makes on the air. If you record underwater it'll be relative again :D Also check out even more reference points here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decibel Hope I cleared something :)

Arkadiusz Rozmus So a digital file constantly peaking at 0db is basically the international standard for "as loud as possible"?
@QrchackOfficial
@QrchackOfficial 9 жыл бұрын
Teun Mathijssen they had to set a reference point, and they did as an upper limit. More or less yes, that's digital "as loud as possible". Bit depth says how many steps down you have till complete silence. SeamlessR (this might interest you, as you didn't really know what's going on with bit depth), the difference in amount of steps works like so: in 8 bit you have 2^8 steps (256), in 16-bit you have 2^16 steps (65 536), in 24-bit you have 2^24 steps (16 777 216), in 32-bit you have 2^32 steps (4 294 967 296). The last one clearly shows why 32-bit is just way too much and explains why nobody even tries 64-bit audio. Though even 65 536 steps is enough for a decent amount of dynamics and is used everyday, everywhere.

I render everything at 44.1k, 16-bit. This is because there really isn't an audible difference between these and the higher settings, which means that all those higher settings are doing is unnecessarily bloating my file sizes. The bit rate, on the other hand, actually matters. I do my best to render those at 320 kbps, unless the file is huge, in which case I shrink it down.
@justenbray
@justenbray 8 жыл бұрын
dont you hear any distortion in the playback
@ShallieDragon
@ShallieDragon 8 жыл бұрын
Justen Bray Nope. You only hear distortion if you clip the master. And I always make sure to put a hard limiter at -0.5 at the end of my signal path, so that clipping never happens. And as for whether the "sound quality" is good enough, listen to your favorite CD's, and ask yourself if they sound crappy, because they too were rendered at 44.1 kHz, 16-bit, and have been for decades.

+ShalMusicFX i rendered a mp3 i heard mp3s always sound naturally bad
@ShallieDragon
@ShallieDragon 8 жыл бұрын
Justen Bray MP3's only sound bad if the bitrate is too low. Basically, MP3's are smaller than WAV's because they throw away information. However, you get to decide how much information gets kept. If you throw away too much, then yeah, it'll sound bad, but you'll also have a smaller file. On the other hand, if you keep more bits, your file size will be larger, but it'll sound better (and will still be smaller than a WAV file). As a rule, 160 kbps is the "minimum" for a decent MP3. Anything below that and you'll start to have noticeable quality issues. 256 kbps is pretty safe, while still being pretty small. 320 kbps (what I use) or higher is pretty much CD-quality, and 99% of people won't be able to tell that it's an MP3.

Seamless, I'm having an issue rendering songs... when I render my songs they lose the quality... sounds more like if it rendered with the primary sound instead of Asio4All, any ideas how to fix the problem?

I have this same problem have your sorted it yet? I want my mixes to sound like they do when I'm playing back with ASIO. Sounds more punchy

i tried lowering the bit to 16 instead of 32 bit float. I find the 32 bit squishes the sound a bit try it

For some reason I just can't stand low passed songs, I feel stuff above 16.5k is what gives the track its brightness and quality, I can't understand how many people can't notice how bad SoundCloud's audio quality is.

Bollog Nyessy What do you mean? I KNOW I can, maybe you can't because it *greatly* varies between different people, and in humans age plays a big role, older people stop hearing higher frequencies :(, and I'm still pretty young, I've heard many songs in 128kbps and they sound way deeper than 320kbps, and I've tried low passing .wavs to make sure, and it still didn't sound as bright.
