I used to work at USC back in the 70's and l was lucky enough to be walking across campus when I spotted Fleetwood Mac practicing this song with the USC marching band, a day l'll never forget 👍🥰 THANKS!

I'm a sucker for a marching band (the USC Marching Trojans were asked to perform on this album and the video shows the band at the stadium with the Marching Trojans) as a former flag line performer but watching Stevie Nicks twirling a baton is awesome too, lol.

This was my mum's favourite song 🎵 We played it at her wake, it made everyone smile because it was the only song she would dance too. It really cheered her up when she was sick

The "Tusk" is slang for penis, so the song is basically about sex. When Stevie Nicks heard the album was going to be called Tusk, she objected, but Mick Fleetwood really wanted to use the title, so he ignored her and she dropped the subject. Stevie Nicks recalled to Mojo in 2015: "I didn't understand the title, there was nothing beautiful or elegant about the word 'tusk.' It really bought to mind those people stealing ivory. Even then, in 1979 you just thought, the rhinos are being poached and that tusks are being stolen and the elephants are being slaughtered and ivory is being sold on the black market. I don't recall it being (Mick's slang term for the male member), that went right over my prudish little head. I wasn't told that until quite a while after the record was done, and when I did find out I liked the title even less!" The music was based on a riff the band used to play when they were introduced at concerts as the lights came up and they were introduced to the audience. When it came time to record the Tusk album, they decided to use it for a song. The University of Southern California marching band played on this track. Mick Fleetwood decided to use a big brass sound after a visit to Europe in 1978 where he saw brass bands marching down the street. The USC Trojan Marching Band was recorded at Dodger Stadium on June 4, 1979 while the Los Angeles Dodgers were on a road trip. This was a few weeks after graduation, so while some band members didn't show, most did, since just about everyone had a copy of Rumours in their dorm room and was thrilled to play on a Fleetwood Mac track. Rehearsals took place in late May, and the day of the recording, each band member signed a release and was paid a dollar. The whole scene was filmed, and the footage used to make the music video. Stevie Nicks is seen twirling, but not like her signature stage move - this time it was with a baton. Lindsey Buckingham was keen on experimentation at the time, so he recorded some of his vocals for this song in his bathroom using a microphone he placed on the floor that was connected to his home studio. I can't recommend the song 'Sarah' by Fleetwood Mac enough ! They have a million amazing songs and that is probably my favorite , Which is hard to do with a band like Fleetwood Mac ! For the last 45 years that song Sarah immediately takes me back to the age of 16 !

As other have said, yes it's the USC Marching Band on the record, they still play it at games today. The original video is good, shows the band but, The Dance live album, is fantastic, band joins them on stage, wow!

They did have a marching band. They went back, I think 20 years later, and did the most amazing live performance with the band that you really should experience.

USC version is fun to watch and you get to see the group as just people. You get to see the whole USC band as well.

About 10 years ago I was at a gala put on by a Los Angeles business group and suddenly the USC marching band (well, a small section of it) came into the ballroom playing Tusk. It was SO LOUD 😄. But everyone got up & started clapping and marching around in their suits. It was pretty awesome.

One of the USC band members is an alumni from my High School and was and still is one of my boyfriend's best friends. He said it was a blast and Fleetwood Mac members were awesome!!! GO SC!!!❤💛 Seeing the actual video and making is an absolute must to get a better appreciation and insight of this song!!

I had a friend who worked at Blockbuster, years ago. When I would walk in, he would grin and turn all the tvs to this song. Everyone would stop and watch and clap when the USC band came on.

There is a great show called "The Americans" about dogs losing as Americans. Season one first episode they played this song in a very tension filled ongoing chase it was brilliantly done and it sucked me into that show I was hooked. Many seasons it was on prime great acting, I think you guys might really like it.

It was a accident this song happened. The band was taped on a reel to reel tape but it was a 8 track tape recorded on a 4 track tape

We always knew it was officially the weekend when my brother's first wife would roll up some doobies, put on Tusk, and crank it so loud the walls shook from the percussion. It sounds like crap here, but get the album and listen to it on a good sound system or with headphones--so much gets lost here that a good sound system makes magnificent.
