This is a haunting song about drug addiction. The silver spoon she's referring to is about fixing a hit. That why she said "take your silver spoon and dig your grave".

The silver spoon may be a reference to cocaine use which Stevie Nicks did use to excess, but you do not "fix a hit" to use cocaine, nor even with heroin, which you cook, to get a fix, however most likely it is a reference to a spoiled woman, which would fit more with the crux of the song which is about the after effects of having a relationship with a woman who will not emotionally commit

There’s more to it. She was documenting the cultural shift that occurred during the 70s. The song is a message telling people (women and men) that the party was ending.

They say it but I’ve seen her many times live solo and with Fleetwood Mac and she most definitely cast a spell on you. She takes a hold of you and does not let go for the entire show. She literally sings to your soul. Sounds dramatic but Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac ( when Christine Mcvie was alive god rest her soul ) was and is an experience live. Their studio work is amazing and they take to a whole other level live. They are genuine gold standard musicians. I wish their was a live CD for every tour they have done since 1974 because it’s that freakin good live.

She wrote it about her cocaine addiction, the take your silver spoon dig your grave is about the small silver coke spoon you use to scoop the coke up to your nose. She's referring gold dust to cocaine. It's a dust that is as valuable as gold.

Stevie Nicks said in an interview that ""Gold Dust Woman" was my kind of symbolic look at somebody going through a bad relationship, doing a lot of drugs, and trying to make it. Trying to live. Trying to get through it." She also said that Gold Dust was a metaphor for cocaine. Interestingly, she lived in Wickenburg, AZ as a child and there was a street there called Gold Dust Lane. She's a badass songwriter for sure.

Fleetwood Mac has a song called "Gypsy". "Gold Dust Woman" is from the Rumors Album. You may want to check out two songs from their self titled album Fleetwood Mac. The songs are called "Over My Head" and "Say You Love Me" Christine McVie sang both songs, both song made it into Billboard top twenty singles chart. She also sings the song "You Make Loving Fun", which made into the top ten. The above single is from the same album of the song you did tonight. She had two other songs from the Rumors album called "Don't Stop" and "Songbird". Please listen and react to these. Fleetwood Mac had three singer song writers in their group. Thank You Asia and BJ.

hey guys, just to let you know, the group pic in your thumbnail is NOT fleetwood mac. i think it might be a cover band. stevie nicks had a notorious coccaine habit that almost cost her her vocal career - "take your silver spoon...dig your grave." this song and it's sound epitomizes stevie's style - mysterious, haunting, tragic. lindsey buckingham was the maestro of the overall sound and arrangement, creating that scary atmosphere. EDIT: yay asia & bj saw this and changed their thumbnail!

Lindsey Buckingham (guitars/ vocals) of Fleetwood Mac recalled that the outro of 'Gold dust woman' was recorded in a drug haze... 😁 But Stevie Nick's heartbreak was perfectly captured in the lyrics... she was referring to her & Lindsey's breakup... "Rulers make bad lovers..." ... 'Lousy lovers... pick their prey, but they never cry out loud'... U can feel her anguish in her words and voice. I can even hear my own experiences w/ breakup in the words - "Is it over now, do you know how to pick up the pieces & go home?"

@@joelong7448 Um, Joe, have you ever heard this term: 'hyperbole'? Do you understand what the winking emoji represents? In case you don't, a hyperbolic comment is one that exaggerates something for comedic effect. The winking emoji is a visual clue that was was just said is not intended seriously. In this case, I was referring to what Strange Worlds Unlimited said. quote, 'I can't get ANY reactors to listen to Christine McVie.' You may have noticed that most reactors think FM is Stevie's band and even if they listen to a Christine McVie song they will attribute it to Stevie. I'm sure I heard one reaction channel listen to something like 'Go Your Own Way' and talk about Stevie's vocals. They don't realise there are other (dare I say 'better'?) singers in the band and would probably collapse in a heap if they found out that Mick Fleetwood is playing the drums. Lindsey is one of my favourite performers, and to me is THE voice of FM. Or maybe, Joe, you're just joshing with me and didn't mean a word of what you wrote. But it didn't SOUND like it. Sorry if I got it wrong.

Some think that the only FM is the rumours lineup, but they had hits with two different lineups before that. The original Peter Green version and the Bob Welch version, then came the Stevie/ Lindsay hit machine. There were bands before all of that also, notably Christine McVie when she was still Christine Perfect with Chicken Shack and solo, then she joined FM as their first female singer. In a lot of ways she held that band together until Stevie and Linsay joined. Bassist McVie and drummer Fleetwood were together in blues bands in the 60s, most known with John Mayall group. A lot of listeners don't seem to know this, probably because of the huge success of the Rumours version. Most of the older fans were aware of them years beforehand, because of early stereo radio liked to play those album cuts. Way deeper than you might think this band is.

Also recommended from "The Dance" concert, you might like "Big Love". It's kind of a musical explosion, so hang into your sox. 👼🌹🎵🎸🎶🎶🎵☮️

Need to check out some early Fleetwood Mac before Stevie Nicks and Lindsey joined the band. Peter Greene does a excellent version of Oh Well. It was rumor that they had just dropped some acid before the live performance video as Greene fights back his laughter while playing. Need to keep in mind that LSD was a popular thing back then. Many bands mentioned it in their songs as well. Jimi Hendrix --Purple Haze for example. Gold Dust / Angel Dust aka PCP was also a common used drug in the 70's also.

Fleetwood Mac is a phenomenal band whose songs come from first hand pain (often with each other), It's personal. This track for instance is about Stevie and Lindsey's (lead guitarists) breakup. It's about getting over a bad relationship and taking massive amounts of drugs (mainly cocaine) to ease the pain. All the band went through so much of the white powder back in the day it's a miracle they all didn't die, seriously...

One of the interesting thing is that Christine Mcvie the lady on Keyboard and vocals , was vey much the melody writer of the band , and although the main break up was Lindsey’s and Stevies , she was married to the base belayer John and having an affair as they broke up , the amazing thing is that they were able to make music out of pain .
