Hey dude! Great vid. One thing we do in our boats while passing bankies (bank fisherman) is reel up and give them lots of room. We have all hiked in early to get the good spots. Huge respect to the bank guys hiking. Love the footage of your boy at the end! Can’t wait to get my guy out this year now that he’s a bit older (3).

Just a thought, many of these tips and rules will be lost on the people that need to hear them, because the reason they act the way they do is not because they haven't been informed, but because they are narcissists; if they gave a crap enough to consider others, they would see the results of their actions and very quickly find their own way to good behavior, such as not blaring music, not swearing around your kids, not pulling up into your personal bubble and letting their dog bark at you, etc.
@teg32osu
@teg32osu 3 жыл бұрын
Many, to be sure, but not all. It's anecdotal, but I don't float much (wader/poor) and I didn't know the rule about the water downstream of an anchored boat. If a friend or guide took me out and was being rude, now I'd know it. That said, your comment reminds me of my mentor's old "fart in church" adage: If you have to explain to someone why it's rude to audibly fart in church, you're never going to get through to them.
@MegaDcmp
@MegaDcmp 3 жыл бұрын
@@teg32osu agreed. I often find that when I comment, I speak in generalities, with a kind of a '10,000 feet' perspective, which leads me to look at the entire map of things and comment on the grand view. If from 10,000 feet it looks like I'm over the ocean, I will say, 'I can't land, it's all water down there.' Invariably someone chimes in to point out that I'm wrong, there are a couple of islands, so I shouldn't say it's ALL water. I appreciate your nuanced reply, because it suggests you pay attention to the point when someone speaks/writes. This doesn't mean I KNOW I'm right and you've confirmed it; it just means I appreciate when someone hears what I am actually saying, and not filtering everything through their own agenda.

Haha, I really love that shot of the raft running the wader over. If I owned a boat, I'm sure I would do that all the time, I get so focused on what I'm doing, I easily forget what's going on around me. I'll stick to my waders until I can figure that out :D

So you pull over to fish one of your favorite spots and your catching fish. A guide with clients parks up stream from you and they just watch and wait. Finally they move on and complain that you are spending too much time at that spot as they pass. That’s one of my personal favorites.

Great video! I am a firm believer in etiquette. Respect the other fishermen or fisherwomen on the water and give them space. Share information, too. There’s no need to be a jerk if you’re on and they’re not. I’ve met many wonderful people on the water and even traded some flies, tried out a few different fly rods, while giving folks the opportunity to cast one of mine. Respecting ones personal space, is probably my biggest pet peeve. If you want to share a spot, ask first and don’t just assume or feel like you can bull your way in. I had three guys that stood within a couple of feet of me and started casting right on top of me. If not for my elderly father-in-law that I was fishing with dragging me away we may have come to blows.

As a bank fisherman, if I'm in a spot and a drift boat anchors near me, or rows upstream so they drift through super slow, I will cast uncomfortably close to them. I don't cast so close as to be dangerous, just close enough to make them want to move. If they're really not getting it I'll cross lines with them, the downside of that is sometimes they'll just cut you off, stay in the spot and keep your flies if they're huge assholes.

Do the best you can and have low expectations for the other guy. High expectations just lead to resentment. Lots of jerks out there. Just enjoy yourself. Don't let some jerk ruin your day. Enjoy the resource, share the resource. In my experience, guides are the worse. Not all, not even close, but the majority of bad experiences I've had have been with guides. I just tell myself they're trying to make a living a let it go.

If I'm fishing a hole on a smaller river (Unc/Paco below Ridgway) and a guide comes along on the other side of the river shouldn't they go on up a hole or two before starting to fish? Had this happen yesterday in the rain. The guide instructed his client to land his bobber right where I was. Thought it was messed up. Not busy at all. It was me, them and one other older couple ( they went downstream) . I went up river 3 holes and continued to get skunked, well, I did get broken off. There are some very big fish in there. Cheers

Solid advice. A bit confused about the family beach anchor spots though. Unless is it a small area, above or down from where my family's parked is open...no need to ask...unless we are actively fishing...which may be what he meant. I am taking this as more of a hangout spot. This logic wouldnt apply to a walk in river hand out area and it shouldnt with a raft or drift boat if the area is big enough.
