Hi Annette! I've been watching most of your videos tonight, whew! So much fun watching your excitement! My friend and I used to cross stitch together once a week for about 2 to 3 hours and we did that for more than 10 years. And we went to soooo many craft shows, visited with vendors, sat in on free how-to seminars. ANYWAY, I just wanted to share some tips I learned--first and foremost for me were the Ellen McCarn Thread Keys. Oh my gosh, I would never use those tiny little cards that you've got wrap! I'm going to put in the link to their website but basically, they are designed so that each key holds 2 skeins of floss. You slip the wrapper off the skein and slip it onto the "paddle" in the center of the key (so you'll always know the brand and dye lot of that skein). Then you simply put the skein on the key--no unwrapping or wrapping. When you get to the website, you'll see how the skeins look on them, but it doesn't really explain about slipping the wrapper on in the pictures. I have several 2" binders that hold all my keys and on the spine of the binder I write the skein number of the first key in that binder, then a dash, then the last key in the binder. I keep a few 1" binders for the different projects I'm working on and put empty key holder sheets in each of them. When I start a project, I just pull the appropriate key out of the main binder and slip it into my project binder. Easy Peasey! And there's no crimping of the threads. Here's the link to their website--then I'll start a new comment with a different tip: www.ellenmccarn.com/shop/organization

Last tip....if you cross stitch on clothing--like sweatshirts for grandchildren, you can apply iron-on LIGHTWEIGHT pellon to the inside of the sweatshirt to cover the threads. It will keep the threads from irritating the child's skin AND will lock them in and keep them from unraveling when you throw them in the washer and dryer. Also, if you're cross stitching a picture that has what I call traveling threads--think of those skinny bare branches on a tree. You can use that LIGHTWEIGHT iron-on pellon and it will hide those traveling threads so you won't see them going across the Aida. HOWEVER...you MUST use a sheet that will go completely over your Aida, not just the design area because although it's very lightweight, you WILL see the edges of it as a slight ridge on the topside of your finished piece. If you totally cover your Aida, those ridges will be hidden in the frame or finished hoop. I hope at least one of these tips are helpful to anyone reading them! Good luck!

I meant to say "completely COVER your Aida" not OVER your Aida. Sorry about that.

I haven't cross stitched on clothing, yet, but I hope I remember that when I do! I like the idea of putting some interfacing on the back. I have traveled some on my mini bouquet piece and sometimes I think I can see it. You have some wonderfully tips! Thank you for taking the time to share. It's much appreciated! 😀

Thank you I have been using the stand. I need a weight on bottom and clamps on each side on top pf frame to top clamp. Harbor freight had clamps reasonable and good quality. I loved your video.

Yes, my husband suggested a weight on the bottom. Did you see my follow up Video? I felt my project sliding down a bit so added a little piece of rug backing and it solved that problem. Thank you for commenting and I hope this continues to work for you!

I totally get it! Everytime I see something I like, I want to do it! And Stitchrovia has a new book out that I'm drooling over: Cross Stitch for the Heart, Emma Congdon. Some day, I too, will look for this book :-D

Second tip is about making your aida sides taut. Just as you sewed a strip of fabric across the top and bottom of your panel, get some wide twill tape and using a basting stitch, sew it onto the sides of your fabric--fold it in the middle so that half is on one side and half is on the back side. It's very inexpensive and it will last forever. Each time you finish a project you'll cut the basting stitches and remove it then use it again for the next project. Here's a quick link to one I found on Joann's website--this one is blue but I'd buy white or cream instead. Then follow the next link to see a person's KZfaq video showing how to lace the sides of the Aida to the sides of the frame. Save yourself some time when you click on that video and just jump to 7:45 mark (by the way, she's not loading her fabric correctly but YOU are (with the working surface rolling inside rather than over the top of the frame). Okay, here's the link to the twill tape and then the next link will be to her video: www.joann.com/simplicity-twill-trim-1.5in-heather-denim/16502304.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d7Jzqr2mldWZiHk.html By the way, the reason for using twill is that it's strong so you'll be able to really snug up your fabric without tearing your fabric.

Another good tip! I struggled getting the frame where I could feel good using it. I will try that. More links to enjoy tomorrow! ❤️

I was wondering if you could show how you finish off the thread in the back using that stand. Do you remove your frame each time to secure the thread
@annettesneedles
@annettesneedles 2 жыл бұрын
I will show that. I don't remove the frame, I unscrew the joint and flip it up. I'll try to take a video of it this week. Thanks for the suggestion. 🪡🙂

Hi Annette would it help to glue the carpet non slip mat to the inside of each wood block than it would be a permanent fix and you wouldn't have to keep putting on each time

Lovely flosstube again Annette. I was looking at that type of stand for my living room (my Lowery is up next to my bed). If I sat sideways with my legs up along the couch, do you think the Edmund would hold the side of my Qsnap?? I'd be interested if it's possible as on my more well days poor hubby has to lug my Lowery up and down 🤣 What a clever idea having the book spiral bound! I have a crocheting book that my spine is breaking on. That would be ideal to have it ring bound. I'm glad it worked out for you on the end, even if your book is a little unique with a new pattern along the edge 😄. It was a pleasure sending you some treats my dear stitchy friend 🥰🥰🥰 Much love to you x

I’ll try sitting sideways on the couch and get back to you later. That would be a good idea! Of course it won’t be the same as the Lowery, not as sturdy, but it might be a good part timer. 😄. The book is lovely and I’m so immensely happy it didn’t get ruined! Thank you again! 💖

@@annettesneedles that's super thanks so much. I generally can only be downstairs for shorter times, so if it would work that way, I'm sure it would be good. Thanks for being my guinea pig 🤣. Much love to you x

Yes! It works! If you don't mind working at an angle. I lounged on the sofa, slid the feet under at an angle that pointed the scroll to me. The screw on the top will let it slightly adjust to turn it more toward you. I think it will do it! I can't add a picture here, but after the convention I'll take a picture and post it through Instagram so you can see. I hope you can find one near you for a good price!
