This episode in my acrylic pouring adventures contains two experiments with Decoart Dragonfly Glaze, a color shifting topcoat. I use it as the base color on both acrylic pour paintings and get really surprising results! Paint pouring recipe is listed below, and you can use the links below to jump around to different parts of the video. Thank you for watching!! Fluid art is unpredictable by nature... and isn't that a big part of why we love acrylic pouring?!
Flower dip painting starts: 2:55
Open cup pour starts: 10:37
Next day results: 17:49
Colors used include: (Liquitex Heavy Body) lime green, deep turquoise, aqua blue, green gold, magenta, cyan blue, dioxanone purple, pearl white; (Pebeo) iridescent green blue
Recipe:
2oz paint
1 oz liquitex pouring medium
1 oz GAC 800
2 oz thinning solution (mix of 1/4 pouring medium and 3/4 water)
3-4 drops of silicone in each color
THANK YOU for watching! Please subscribe to my channel and hit the little bell so you get notified when I post new videos!

Yes, I think that is why I have a hard time going for muted color palettes, even though I know it limits me! I want to, but Arrrrggg! All the beautiful bright colors call me and I fell compelled to choose them!! lol. Really glad you found me and vice versa! Thanks for watching

Not gonna lie... it is pricey! $4.99 for two ounces. Fun to play with for a night, though! If you thin it down it goes a lot further. Thanks for watching!

The open pour turned out beautifully! I have some of the dragonfly paint and have used it mixed in other paint, not noticing much difference. So this gives me new ideas to work with. This is just my opinion but I think you used too much paint as your base coat for the dip. It kept spreading out because of floating. The second dip turned out nicely without all the base coat. I love seeing and doing experiments, how else will we know what works and what doesnt? Thanks for showing us all your successes and failures. Great things come from an experimental mind set. The scientific process at its best.

Hi Linda! Thank you!! I think you are absolutely right about the basecoat for the dip. It was entirely too much! It really has a lot of promise as a base coat for that kinda dip though (if done right). So glad you are enjoying the experiements. It was 100% the experimenting that pulled me into acrylic pouring from the beginning, but then when I got a "recipe" that worked, I quit experimenting.... and not long after, I burned out. I have the mad scientist bug again, and it is filling my life with color!! Thank you so much for hanging with me! :-)

Thanks for sharing, I just got a bottle of the dragonfly . I'm excited to experiment with it. Before you started to stretch it looked like a huge caterpillar. Came out beautiful, how has it aged?

Really pretty!! I loved the second one which I would like to try. My question is what did you use to thin down the dragonfly top coat in the open cup part two? I have trouble hearing Thank you 😊
@JennyPost
@JennyPost 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching! On that second pour, I thin down the dragonfly glaze with liquitex gloss medium and varnish. I would guess it was a three or four to 1 ratio, meaning three or four parts pouring medium and one part of the dragonfly glaze. It was very thinned out.

Do we need to add anything in the dragonfly glaze paints to get cells

I have some of this glaze, no clue which color and I was feeling very unsure of what I might like to do with it ...I appreciate your experiment and that will definitely encourage me to play! I know what Liquatex costs a gallon so I hope you do an experiment trying my recipe( under my videos) sometime soonish.I have not used any silicone for a very long time( hate cleaning it off ) but soon I will do an experiment with silicone in one of the landscapes . Because the cells you get are too enticing. I pulled out my RainX the other day but didn't use it. Have you tried the RainX without having silicone in your mixes yet?
@JennyPost
@JennyPost 5 жыл бұрын
I will definitely try your recipe soon!! Your landscapes are absolutely gorgeous!! I would like to have a recipe that did not require a lot of cleaning after, too! I have not tried RainX. I will check out your recipe tonight and send you a message on FB. I have an idear!!
