With mentoring u have to be very strategic with it and only use it on some players because the person in the group with the highest influence rubs off the rest. So no point having the biggest team leader and team captain with a determination of 10 coz guess what a month down the track all your wonderkids determination will drop towards 10.

So my way is get the best coaches possible first that is the most important, then individual training i put them on a role that develops the most all round attributes so GK - sweeper/ CD - Librero/ WB - full back att/ CDM - segu vol/ CM or CAM - box to box/ wingers - def wing support/ strikers - comp forward, then as they get to around 19yo i start to put them on specific roles within my tactic, overall youth training is identical to my 1st just not as intense as they are youth and my U23 & U18 team use exact same tactics as 1st team plus now i pick the team for each U23 & U18 match as i found the mangers for those teams wasn't always playing certain players in the positions or rolesi wanted them to so i started picking the team, I'm 3 seasons into a Man U save and under 18s have won the league all 3 times and a few cups and a handful are now in my 1st team.

For most youth players under 18 training is best. However once they turn 18, loans are appropriate to give them the much needed game time. For most young players loaning them out before 18 can actually have an adverse effect on their development, especially if the team doesn't play in a tactic that your first team uses

I don't know if this helps a whole lot, but what I do with players that are starting to challenge for a 1st team spot, i promote them to the senior squad to train more often with the more experienced players and make them available for the b team or u19, specially if the b team plays in the second division, as is the case of my current save. They play a lot of games at a decent level, train with the first team and have them available to play some games for the first team in the cups or league games 2/3 days after European games.

Determination, Work Rate and Natural Fitness have nothing to do with how a player trains. It's all about Ambition and Professionalism - the hidden attributes. Those two, along with Determination, can be improved by Mentoring.

So, If I moved my young player to my senior squad and I'm playing him often, which coaches will train him? My senior coaches or youth coaches until he reach 23? Same for facilities. If he is moved to senior squad will he be using senior training facilities or youth facilities until he reach 23?

Thanks for the good tips! Glad to see that determination and work rate is yours go to attributes for youngsters as is mine. Only problem I see is tip number 5 give them game time, which if you send them on loan will cancel first, third and fourth tip. I don't know which is better for them, to send them on a loan which mostly has worst training then yours or to stay and have better development but play only in u18 or u23. I don't know if playing for under teams counts as quality gametime.

One thing i notice was, if i Promote them to the 1st squad i dont know if it is rly positive on LLM becouse they will train less becouse the first team are almost all with a part time contracts so they just train 1 or 2 times a week. When in s19 they have more trains per week becouse youngsters have formation contracts. Ofc you need to have a good star coutchs and good facilities

So if you'd bought a few regens who has high potential but not good enough for first team action yet what would you do? would you keep at the club train / available for under 20's also gaining that homegrown status along the way, or Loan out to affiliated clubs for numerous years at serie C/B levels

is there anything special I can do to develop young player in MLS? Since the lower leagues aren't playable you can't really hire staff or schedule games for your youth squads like you normally can. I'm trying to grow some american-born superstars but most of my academy players never improve beyond 2-3 stars

In FM 19 I bought Fabio Silva in the 2-3 season of my save at Ispwich. He was only 18. He regularly played in the prem and in the 4 seasons (I wasn’t able to continue the save) he played he got about 20-35 goals per season, all competitions. The point is he barely grew in stats, he stayed the same. He had no major injuries or any injury to be fair. And he didn’t grew. FM Scout do you know why this could be?

Hey man, first of thank you really much for the video but I got a few questions left as I'm a newbie to this game. As I mentioned I'm not used to the game so I started with my favourite club, FC Bayern Munich (hope its the right english phrase for it). I got a few good youth players like Zirkzee or Oliver Batista-Meier and I'm not sure about one thing, I'd really like them to be in my main squad because I feel like it would be better for them (but I havent checked how good my staff is with working with younger players maybe I recheck that) but they should be avaiable to play for my second team which is actually in germanys third league. Will my players get unhappy if I do not really play them on my main team but they're up for the main team training ? Or is that okay for them ? Or is there another way of letting them train in the main team if it's really better for them ? I also still have to check whether or not I can send them away on loan, I disabled transfers for the first transfer period so yeha ^^ It takes a bit still. Second, can I adjust how my players are valued in the second team ? I send Zirkzee and others back to the second them because I dont know if they get unhappy, and I always get the mail from the Second teams coach about who is playing and I see that all my players who used to be on the main team are now sitting on the bench, I'm not sure if thats okay or not but I dont think so, but I also dont want to train all 2 or even 3 teams at once because it's too heavy for me this early into the game. Youngsters don't improve in that game. At least, not well. In 19 players would improve. You'd play them, or at worst loan them, and if they played, they would improve. That actually was enjoyable to develop youngsters. Not in FM20.

It's not a good idea to loan out players, because they get worse training no matter what club you loan them to. This has been the case for years now. You can only loan most players out to *worse* teams than your own, so you will have better facilities and you have access to controlling how they train. Playing as star player in the youth or reverse teams counts as high quality leagues, compared to what clubs you can loan the same player to. The exception is when you can loan out Cortino to FC Bayern or other silliness of that kind. Playing for a team at the SAME level of the first team squad is the only loans that is worthwhile.

This first team gametime is just plain rubbish. Young players need to start games. It does NOT matter if they do it on u23 or u18. As long as they are starting games for ANY squad they will gain experience. For young prospects its better to start 30 games on a u23 or u18 squad than to start only 10,15 on first team.

Sending players out on loan is v i t a l

The main driver of a youth prospect fulfilling their potential always used to be Professionalism (plus Ambition & Determination). I'd normally only sign senior players with high professionalism personality types (i.e. Professional, Resolute, Model Prof etc) & high determination rating, and get them tutoring/mentoring the youth prospects to maximise the chances they'd develop into a first team player. Is Professionalism now less relevant? is it now more important to look solely at Determination, Work Rate & Natural Fitness as you suggest? Bearing in mind I'm a veteran of FM15 so maybe things have moved on since then? A "Determined" personality type may score highly for Determination but middling scores for professionalism & ambition would surely reduce their chances of reaching their PA?

So, training, coaches, mentoring and your training facilities are bullshit in our eyes. You just loan your youngsters and that's all. Short story, they didn't improve at all this game through years. LOL
