Rory Gallagher concert in Belfast's Ulster Hall in the early eighties. Not the best quality as taken from an old vhs recording of the gig

Fair play to Gerry McAvoy, a great musician who always knew his place, who provided the perfect balance when playing beside such a monster, and who in this clip is having a total blast.

Read Gerry's biog of Rory, Riding Shotgun, a critical but sympathetic analysis of Rory and it's obvious he admired and loved Rory.

Rory was "one in a million" as an artist. Irish and loved Northern Ireland, the people loved him because he was openhearted and honest. Noone has ever come close to Rory. So sad heaven couldn`t wait.

The man and his boys who had the power to stop conflict/war, Nobody was a stranger or the enemy at a Rory or Thin Lizzy Gig . It is not a problem for me to follow the great Rory Gallagher, I have followed this man, his band and his music from town to town, from the very first moment I dear his music, I was fully convinced for this man quality 10 seconds into hearing the very 1st song of Rory & Taste, In all of this time I have never got fed up and left his music, Rory's music is still as fresh as a newly plucked daisy up to this very moment and as a bonus, Rory was a great human being, anyone would be more than happy to follow Rory.

A guitar master. Like a hand full of players from the 60s and 70`s, who can play and write songs that are so unique. We will never see this happen again. Things were lined up, for guitar players/singers born in the 1940`s. Rory was one of them. He had total control over his unique feedback sound. He was a great slide player and used feedback to a level few have had. A great loss, but Rory has left a legacy that the world will never forget. Thank you Rory and Band members for putting on countless great concerts, that are now legendary. Many films and video tapes were made of Rory in his prime. More then most artists. We the fans are lucky to have them and bring us back to a time when rock music was in great form. The world was a better place for having Rory Gallagher in it. So many strong albums and live shows. A guitarist who was loved by his fans they are trying to get the airport in Ireland, named after Rory. That would be a great tribute to a man who made the people of Ireland proud to have him, as one of their own.

Love this song. It says a lot. The G-Man has it going. "I've been locked in this cage gotta get away, before it's to late, I'm gonna rewrite the page, take the stage, live tomorrow today, you found your dreams were mislaid you wanna run away, all your dues have been paid, now it's time to depart, go with your heart, follow that flame" Who could have said that any better other than the "G-Man" himself? What else needs to be said???

When i reflect on seeing Rory playing live in concert , (this song at another concert a few years before ) I remember not only the volume but the power behind this band. They were sensational at the same time as being delicate and refined. Never seen a gig like it again being that Rory was connected to the people dancing below . The concert i attended last 2 hours . I was so spoilt.

Sound doesn‘t have to be perfect when it has a vibe like Rory‘s! Became a fan after hearing him live on a crappy mono radio and recorded it on a low quality cassette (mono as well). Heard the tape hundred (or thousands?) of times and rocked through my room every time I listened to it. That is ART!

Back in our days, in old London town when we were young our parents would send us to college gigs to see Rory Gallagher and his boys and get the education to last us a life time from this MASTER, been in his classroom was the very best thing that could happen, we came away knowing things which we have used all through our lives. When you have some spare time click on to KZfaq and watch this human hurricane in action, The Master Musician Rory Gallagher and his boys going to town at full speed, shin kick going crazy suffering from the bullfrog blues and shadow playing at full pelt. What other person would thank his audience a million. Rory Gallagher that's who. Show less REPLY

Saw Rory in 1978, Chicago, at the Park West. It was a long time ago, but I will never forget the energy he put out. After it was over, he walked back and forth across the stage shaking as many hands as he could, so genuine, you didn't see that kind of compassion towards fans back then. ----- I remember where I was when I heard of his passing in 95, I could not believe it.

Notice how no one has ever been able to "copy" Rory? People can sound like Hendrix, SRV, Duane Allman, Ritchie Blackmore etc. Not Rory. Somehow, he was able to make his strat sound like five different guitars in one song. I have no clue how he was able to do this.

Alex Lifeson helps make Rush sound like a mini orchestra. They toured with Rory as Rory's opening act in the early 70's. Then later Rory toured with them and was their opening act. Said Rory taught him about using "pick harmonics". Admits Rory had a heavy influence on him. He's about the only one could mimic Rory maybe.
