Open header and choppy idle. The cam specs: 274*advertised duration, 224 at .050 lift, 110 lobe separation, and .518 lift with the GM 292 rockers. Everything else is stock on the inside.

If my 300 sounded like this I would never be able to shut it off

@MrGeraldericksonjr True, not enuf has been done with the 300. Either a turbo for the stock head, or weld up 351C, or LS1 heads for natural aspiration. There has been a little more in the cam selection of the past couple years. Mine sure needs more compression, to say the least.

@tgilliland4841 Thanks. It's off of an Econoline van. This one is from an 84 E150. Still have yet to get a PS box & column.

@seapeddler Nope. Just the cam, standard hyd lifters, stock pushrods, and GM 292 rockers, on stock valve springs

@clemm17 I would like to have my compression up where yours is. The overlap on this cam just bleeds off a lot of it at low rpm. For tuning an Edelbrock carb, I'd suggest an oxygen sensor with an attached gauge.

Funny that Comp Cams has 2 numbers between the Chev 292 and the 300-6, a 1033-12 and a 1040-12. But the two are so similar I see. Ford and Chev kept engines vertical and Dodge slanted their six. no one really knows why.

hey nice lopey idle....Where did you get that bracket for a saginaw ps?

@seapeddler I don't know if A 300 would run well at too much of an angle. Just like you said the oiling system wasn't designed for that on A Ford 300 like the Dodge slant was. The port fuel injection does make up for the poor atomization in carb'd setups. Tats why the 86 300 with A carb made 122hp and the 87 300 with port FI had 145hp with the same fuel mileage.

@nevrenufhp were did u get ur cam from? I also have a 300 six

diyautotune is the company that makes them. Not sure in pricing, since there are so many options.

@hendo337 So, a 300-6 could run on an angle, and when the valve cover was removed, oil would spill over. I wonder if fuel injection equalizes the slight differences?

Did you need to use lash caps with the higher lift cam?

how much would megasquirt cost and how hard is it to tune?
@Hole_Motorsports12 жыл бұрын
you think i could run a cam this agressive with efi?
@seapeddler12 жыл бұрын
@hendo337 A conundrum indeed. Ford 300-6 would need modified oilpan/pickup and pressurized shaft rocker system to run on a slant. The pedestal rockers may not hold their vital reservoir of oil at a slant. Shaft rockers iz superior, but getting at one means dismantling entire shaftism. Everything is the same, but making money is immiscible with logic at times.

i have built and mean 225 slant 6 before it had 13to1 copression inow have a ford 300 inline 6 i dont think any body has pushed the limit of said ford engine i pl could use more workan on using a good sized turbo and better fuel injection plus i think rotating assembly

Dodge slant engines allowed a lower hood line and a better intake manifold. They were also shorter than others because they were designed with shorter accessories. water pump is actually mounted on the side.. they were designed like that. realisticly a better design than any other American inline engine of the time, but there is no replacement for displacement. 300 was much more popular in Fords than 225 powered trucks were in the Dodges. The slant is far superior to the Small ford sixes.

Put a 240 head on they have smaller chambers Which five you a higher compression.

I would love to. They aren't so easy to find.

Sounds lower than it really was. The idle(if that’s what you’re referring to) was raised slightly after this video. From what I remember, it ended up around 750.

Love the 300, love what a cam can do, but why do all you 300 guys think an old tractor sounds good.

i checked i think converting to carb would be alot cheaper and easier.

No....It wont like it. A Comp 260 is about as big as you can go, unless you run aftermarket EFI like a Megasquirt.

Sounds like a top fuel car! THAT is one BAD to the BONE ford.. .
