Here today we have a ford focus that isnt charging..suspecting the alternator as being faulty follow me as i do a quick n dirty replacement. No jacking the vehicle up,Removing the two stretch belts... No we do it all from the top in half the time.

Great video. It's how I did it years ago. However, I feel that you overlooked one important point..........the bracket that you fasten the power steering reservoir to has also to be fastened by the bottom alternator bolt. I forgot it the first time I carried out the procedure and, over a period, the bracket vibrated and this transmitted through the pipe to the steering rack causing a fracture of the rigid pipe and loss of fluid! Fortunately, it was possible to repair the break with 10mm OD compression fitting. Hope this helps others

@@MJ720 Yes. It means that the bottom alternator bolt has to be removed again and then refitted through the hole in the power steering reservoir bracket. It may seem obvious but, as in my case, the bracket must have got bent and wasn't obstructing the access to tighten the bottom bolt.

Great video mate :) just bought a focus mk2 1.8 petrol. it's had a new alternator / belt before I bought it but I noticed the lights "pulsing" for the want of a better word, at idle. Almost like high beam flashed on and off momentarily? I've had Vauxhalls for past 20 year and I can tell you them inside out but I'm stuck at the minute with fordy's. any ideas?

Hi, Thanks for watching and your comment. I used the hacksaw to trim some plasic around the main B+mterminal because the new one was diffrent to the old and i couldnt get the terminal on.

Why KZfaq didn't give me this video before I tried to do it, I don't know. I have a couple of questions, if you wouldn't mind: I misread the label on my alternator, and got the 80Amp model instead of the 105A. Is this likely to cause problems? It was listed as compatible with my '06 focus. After fitting, I've got a constant whining sound. Is it possible the belt slipped out a groove on one of the pulleys? Could it be the alternator isn't lined up correctly? I'd assumed the pin would assure correct alignment, so I didn't worry about it at the time. Alternatively, is it because I've got the wrong alternator? The fittings are the same though. Any advice you could offer would be much appreciated. Cheers.

The belt whine disappeared over night. I'm guessing condensation had something to do with it, as it was still whining after a 10 mile drive last night.

Hi, Im glad the noise went away...The ampage on the alternator is matched to the amount of electrical loads on your vecicle..For instance a vehicle with electric power steering,Heated front screen, Heated seats etc will need a more powerful alternator than a model without these features... Fitting a lower ampage unit may mean it has to work a bit harder at charge but as long as the battery condition is good and you dont have everything switched on at once then im sure your be ok.

Why not just slacken the belt tensioner pulley, unhook from the alternator then drawer the alternator forward off the stud ?

Can I remove the alternater without removing the female torx head?

Hi.. no .. if you don't remove the long stud with the tory head it won't allow you to tilt the alternator to remove the belt. However if you removed the belt first you could possibly leave the stud in and after removing the bottom bolt there may be room to slide it off. But I would advise taking it out in any case as it makes it easier. If you don't have a suitable torx a spanner or multisplined socket will usualy work.

Legend, thanks for the heads up. I'm putting in a new vacuum pipe, PCV valve and thermostat in so I gotta take off the alternator.
