I just had a shifting issue today and googled the problem and saw this video and I did it and it worked my focus isn't shifting hard anymore but I will get the issue checked soon. Thank you!

Hey Big Ben. Just found your channel as my sons new to him 2015 Ford Focus is having transmission issues. It started when it lost reverse about a month or two after purchasing it used. Scanned and got code P090C. I bought two new actuators and replaced them. Car drove good for a couple of days and then lost reverse and came back with the same referenced code. Cleared it and it ran good. Code came back and stated transmission was overheating. He was on his way to work at 11pm and about 25 miles away. I went and checked the fluid, it seemed dark (I didn’t know these took special fluid). Cleared the code just to get it home. Ran flawlessly. The next morning I spent $120 on 2 quarts of DCT fluid, 1 Motorcraft and 1 Valvoline. I jacked the car up off the ground on all 4 sides and leveled it on jack stands. Changed the fluid, bought the special actuator rewind tool off Amazon and spun it back a few times while using brake cleaner and pb blaster as I had seen on a few other videos. Reinstalled the actuators and he took the car to work. Well it over heated at the same exact spot as the previous day. I cleared the codes to get it home. As soon as I got home it threw code P07A2 and stated “transmission fault, service now”! I’m at a loss for words and ideas at this point. I want to attempt replacing the forks and clutch but I can’t afford for that not to fix it right. I can’t trust any shops around me. Everyone I called (including Ford) had no idea what the hell a dual clutch transmission was. I took it to the mechanic of the mom and pop dealer we bought it from and they’re stumped. They had no idea about this transmission and said they wouldn’t even know how to work on it. I just need to get it running right so we can get rid of it and find something else. We just got it approximately 3 months ago for $4k cash. It has 148k on the dash. Any help is surely and greatly appreciated.

The P090C is an electrical problem and most likely a bad TCM ( trans control module). The P07A2 is a mechanical code, most likely a sticking clutch fork or slave cylinder issue, which may have been caused by spraying PB blaster in it. So I'd replace the TCM, drive it and burn off the PB blaster to see if the other code comes back. Problem is, the pb blaster may be pooled up inside the transmission clutch housing now

Take it to a ford dealer it’d under warranty. It’s covered under their extended TCM warranty for 10 yrs or 150k miles

I brought my 2013 Fiesta SE to the dealership I bought it from due to shifting rough. One fault code P07A5 Friction element stuck. Quoted $4,125 to rebuild the clutch. I've got the Power train warranty and was told clutchs are not covered in that. So I am going to bring it to a transmission shop for a 2nd opinion.

I feel it's probably a good idea to do a transmission reset, if somebody other than the cars normal driver, will be driving, as the system fine-tunes it's operation according to the drivers throttle, and braking inputs, and driver behaviors can vary between drivers, substantially . . .

I just changed the transmission fluid at 150k miles, figured it’s also a good idea to do the transmission reset as well. Thanks for the tip!

Hi, glad to help! You can get Forscan to do the clutch adaptive learn. Either have it on your laptop or you can get it on your phone.

2011 fiesta ses 1.6 with the powershift transmission. Long story but car got inside the engine, all of it is out, turns by hand, turns over twice with starter but doesn't crank or start. Threw code p2808 and P0707. What do i need to do to get this car driveable again

I dont recognize P2808, but P0707 might be a bad range sensor - which will cause a no-start. check the wiring to the sensor first. If the sensor doesn't fix it, you might need the TCM

P0902 and p0903. This is the quote I'm getting it I did change the actuator but not OEM parts. As soon as somebody else drive the car to send problem happened. Should I get OEM actuator and see or probably the TCM? Thank and advance

Hi Ben, It's me again. I left you a few issues I been having with my 2011 Fiesta and you may not remember, but here what's been going on. First issue was car was P0805, and I swapped out both actuators and still had the same problem. The car was running while I had this issue, but was not going into 3rd gear, so I got me a used tcm off Ebay. The used TCM threw me another code which was P287B and now the car was unable to drive or move. I took it out and added back my original and that made the car run again but had code P0805 from before.. I bought another used TCM this time from Amazon and got code U0101 lost communication with vehicle. So I had to put back my old one in the vehicle back again to get it moving. Do you think I just have a TCM problem? I did the fork test with the special tool and that turns with no stuck, and I also spin those gears where the tcm rotates and those are good.

Make sure your tcm grounds are tight under the airbox, but sounds like you've gotten a couple of bad tcms. You could take it to the dealer, the tcm is a free repair until 2025. Then you'll have a new oem tcm with a warranty

Hi Ben , wondering if you could help shed some light onto my problem it has stumped me. 2012 fiesta 1.4petrol auto Drives fine in R,1,2 but in 3rd it revs to 5k before it kicks in drive (but does then move the car ) can’t get fast enough to get into 4th ! Changed ATF & checked levels P0733:00-AB Gear #3 Incorrect Ratio I only get this code when I rev the car high trying to get drive & throws a transmission light on dash but doesn’t stay on !

Hey big Ben thanks for the video it helped me so much. Quick question. What do I need to look into my 12 ford focus dry dual clutch won't go passed 3rd gear on the automatic transmission. Been seeing videos with some having shifting solenoids under pan this one doesn't have it. Thanks for any help and greatly appreciate it.

Hey, can you please show me a way to replace the rack & pinion with motor the easiest and the cheapest way? Replaced it 1 year ago at the dealer and now it’s broken once again and don’t have that money right now. I tried new battery and fuses still won’t work. If it’s the rack what’s the easiest way to install a new one?

With the car on jackstands, take the steering shaft pinch bolt off under the dash, hold the steering wheel still with the seat belt, unbolt the subframe and lower it with a jack. It's an easy subframe to lower. From there it's super easy just unbolt anything in the way and the rack comes out

Hey my 2014 ford fiesta goes in to neutral while driving then i need to put it in park and the start the car again to me the transmission work again it hapens every 10 min or so and also something the car won’t even start like the starter doesn’t even make a sound any help

I think your issues are related and either a clutch fork or tcm issue. What fault codes are setting? U0100 u0101 is a bad tcm. P07a3 p07a5 are clutch forks

Big Ben, I hope you had a relaxing Thanksgiving, I took my 2017 to the dealership for a diagnostic, 1st and 2nd were slipping and When I came to a stop the rpms would stay high. They did adaptive relearn, they said that was the problem, its starting to slip again but not as much and rpm are high. Any feedback. Thanks Big Ben

​@@BigBensCarsAndCycles Sorry for the late response, they said no codes and nothing was wrong with the TCM. I don't know how the dealership works but I'm going to take it back because I never did get a diagnostic. They did a relearn and said that was the problem. I did mention to them that there is a TCM recall and they said there is no recall on my vehicle. What do you think is causing it to run at high RPMs. When you're coming to a stop the rpm needle goes up then comes down to idle, also coming from stop it wants to move forward really fast. Thanks BB

hi thanks it was helpful, i had reset my 2014 fiesta 1.6 but still bought this car with 75k miles on it and i have no idea should i bother that this tranny works liek it seems sliding a litlle when changing gears or it some times lightly pulls a little from 2-3 gear or this is the nature of these dual clutches

@@BigBensCarsAndCycles2011 Ford Fiesta SES has a slight vibration feeling on the steering wheel or hand on the motor at 900 rpm idle. No lights. No missing at low or high speeds. Transmission no problem since Module recall replacement and reprogramming at 75,000 miles. Now has 110,000. New plugs, air filter didn’t affect vibration at an idle. Any ideas before I take it to the Ford Dealer? Car runs good..

Hey Big Ben ! Big fan of you and your channel ! Thanks so much for all you’re doing for us ! Does this transmission reset help with the little bit of shudder I have ? Also, my Focus was manufactured in 5/16 so I don’t have a recall. I guess that means I can’t get anything fixed by the dealer. I only have a bit of shudder from the stop sign. Should I worry about doing anything about it right now other than maybe taking it out on the freeway for 5 or 6 hard drive cycles ? It’s only got 88,000 and runs top notch otherwise. Not sure if or when it’s had the tranny fluid changed. Should I do that ?

Hi, I'm glad the videos helped you. This transmission "reset" process is just to get your car to start when a transmission problem prevents the engine from starting. And your other questions: Shudder is pretty much normal on these, I'd drive it until theres a separate issue (usually the clutch forks). You should get 100k miles out of each clutch kit you install. I would change the fluid every few years or 50k intervals. And yes, driving the car hard will help a bit with shudder for a while.

Just saw this video and my 2015 Focus 95k miles was was straining over 3k rpm before shuddering to the next gear. It would also sometimes not start. I did the reset and it's running fine now. Question, at the end you mentioned that this is temporary. Can I just have the transmission serviced, or does that mean an expensive new one? Thanks, glad I found your channel!

Unfortunately I don't have the software and gizmo to pull codes. Any advice on a good inexpensive device to plug in and get codes? I'm a newbie with very little experience working on my car, but I'm learning. When it first happened, the check engine light came on. One last note, i stupidly ran over a plastic bag and the car immediately started making that same rough shifting, high rpm as it was just doing. Thanks for the extremely fast response!

You're welcome! You can get one on amazon or harbor freight, or let autozone scan it. You'll probably end up needing either a clutch job or tcm. So If you want Ford to diagnose it, it'll be free IF it's the tcm. If it's not, you'll have to pay diagnosis

I'm solely convinced that Ford when they said they installed a new transmission control module that they just simply reset it or reprogrammed it, because it wasn't long after waiting 6 months from my Ford back did it start to do this again😢

@@BigBensCarsAndCycles the transmission overheating and the transmission malfunction code, well the message but for instance I was just driving on the highway going 60 and it said overheating pull over, and then I'm still driving it said to pull over for 5 minutes, I'm still pushing 60 and it resets while I'm driving and says transmission ready I didn't even have to do the code to reset it it just reset itself that's how I can tell it's faulty and was not replaced

I've ben having so much problems i keep hereing the control module needs to be replaced and reprogrammed mine is under warranty but the dealership won't do it. I gave $ 7,500 for it with 100,000 miles and im stuck with a car worth nothing.

@@BigBensCarsAndCycles it says it has no codes but has a check engine light and sometimes overheating vehicle hill assist and service transmission. It sometimes won't go in gear forward or reverse or shift out of fist or limp mode we are going to try the neutral transmission reset when it has a glitch to get buy for now thinking about just trying the transmission control module and crossing my fingers.

I hear a rattling sound in mine when I accelerate, it will slow down then not allow me drive anymore so I have to turn off the car for a few minutes to continue driving like a grandma. Might be the clutches are old and need a new one. Been trying to research as much as possible on this. Mines is still basically new with 130k miles that’s why I wanna keep it. What do you think?

Ok. So we have a 2016 ford fiesta hatchback and the battery died. We replaced the battery and the car started up fine and drives fine but the transmission light is on. Pep boys says nothing wrong with it but that we can take it to ford to get the light turned off. Will this work to turn the light off and keep it off?

Hi, yes you just need to clear the codes set from low battery voltage and the transmission will be fine

Hey Ben, Thanks for all your help. We have a 2015 Ford Focus that has had the clutch replaced every 30k miles by the dealer. This last time (3rd time) we brought the car into the dealer and they said it was not covered under warranty as the TCM is not the issue and we got code P0805 and P2872. I dropped the transmission and replaced the clutch, throwout bearing, Z washers, shift forks, and new solenoid's from ford (as recommened per your other video's). I put the transmission together and we still have the P0805 code. When I try to relearn everything in the car it passes the TR relearn, shift drum relearn, but gets stuck on the clutch relearn. Specifically on step - 'Gear Travel Test Unit A". I am not sure what the problem is but I still feel its the TCM but ford is not doing anything about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, usually that codes means a clutch actuator is bad. Since you already replaced those, I'd swap a and b actuator locations to see if the code switches to clutch b. If it doesn't, I'd look at the grounds under the airbox and make sure they're clean and tight and replace the tcm as a last resort

@@BigBensCarsAndCycles Thanks a bunch man, I should have been more clear, when I removed the trans and replaced the clutch and components, P2872 code went away, but P0805 code stayed. Would that P0805 code indicate it is definitely the TCM?

Hi! I'm just a lady with no knowledge of auto mechanic but can understand a bit if you're patient enough with me (he, he). I have two Ford Fiesta SE ( 2014 and 2015), both automatic transmissions, and 1.6 L engines. I bought them both used. On the 2014, I feel as if it only reaches up to 3rd gear, The revolutions go up to 2 when reaching 50mph. Is that normal? Now, when it shifts to what I believe is the 3rd gear, I can hear the steady transmission sound of that gear on a standard transmission vehicle. I bough it with 103,000 on it, it now has 122,501. A few months back, I took it to Ford dealership because of two recalls known to that day (door latches and TCM reprogramming) which were done having 122,378 miles on it. Right now it has 122,501 miles. I haven't driven it much ever since it was serviced for that. Two weeks ago approximately, I had a new battery installed. What do you think it might be the problem for this 2014 Ford Fiesta? I asked and was given an appointment at a Ford dealership for August for them to check on that "shifting" problem because I want to see if that has to do with the TCM reprogramming they already had done or if it needs TCM replacement. I'm fearing that they charge me thousands of dollars for something that might be covered by the recall, I hope they are honest. Now the story of my 2015 Ford Fiesta SE: The"Hill Start Assist Not Available" warning pops up on the radio display every time I start up the car including the orange lights for ABS and Traction Control, all being on ever since I bought this car. About a month after, I had the "Check Engine" orange light on, too. I had it scanned by a mechanic and he said that the problem was bad speed sensors (that was the code he was getting - I don't have that code number, though) but I ended up wasting money because that wasn't the problem. He even tried clearing all those lights off but they all came on after driving it for 5-10 miles. Also, this car would roll back when releasing the breaks even on a slight hill. Would it be why the traction control light is on? Well, to add up a little more to this, today I had the battery replaced. The orange wrench light on the dashboard came on as well as the "Transmission Failure" warning on the radio display. A while back I looked up the VIN number on the Ford website and this car doesn't show any transmission or door latches recalls as was shown on my 2014 Fiesta, either because the previous owner had it done or it really wasn't done at all because this car didn't come with those mechanical defects. (I'll go and check this VIN again after I send this comment). What can all this be? This car was driving fine as far as transmission performance goes. That light appeared right after replacing this battery. Can you help with some enlightenment about these issues? Thank you so much and I apologize for my extremely long comment!

I would let ford diagnose it, if it's a bad tcm then it'll be free to fix. Otherwise you pay diagnosis but know what's wrong

However, I haven’t made any appointment with Ford for the 2015 since it wasn’t having any transmission issues until I replaced its battery yesterday. Hy man I love your video . I am in extreme need of your help. I have changed clutch and fork kit. I have done this before. But now when I do adaption or clutch travel it say clutch travel test error/failed. When adaption goes to clutch travel test it says error and tcm shuts down. Removed transmission again nothing was wrong. I have changed both actuators too. I can’t figured out. Please help. Drove test car to do manually relearn it is learning little bit but it is very harsh in shifting and when comes to stop it shakes whole car. Note: Car was able to drive somewhat before removing transmission.

First didn’t have any codes after trying to do manual relearn this is what I got. P2787 , p2701 It rides terribly and still no revere until 2500rpm. So when I do try use reverse I immediately get transmission hot message.

I did removed transmission and inspected clutch and fork. And I didn’t find anything. For my own peace of mind I changed fork kit again. I have done few so I know how they work. But relearn for the first time giving problems. And right after clutch travel error it says tcm shuts down.

Did that procedure 5 times and the transmission malfunction service signal won't go off.

@@xenopac Gotta use an obd2 scan tool to read the code. Depending on the code, it may be a free fix at the dealer (transmission control module)

@BigBensCarsAndCycles Ik it gives p0606 pcm or tcm I was wondering if I bad battery could be the issue because the battery did die my dad pulled it out to bring it inside the house to unthaw then when he put it back in gives us that code but when I use a volt meter to check it with car running I get 14 volts

@@xenopac yeah, low voltage can cause the p0606 code. If it comes back it's the tcm
