Thank you for the video! The Dealership has bee giving me the run around about my 2012 Ford Focus recalls! Looks like I may have to contact Corporate office to get my vehicle repaired!

Just happened to me on Friday! I had no idea what to do, had to have the car towed....just got a call from the Ford dealer that they replaced the tcm- 2012 focus with 62K miles. This whole issue with the focus and fiesta is so depressing! I wish I could have seen this before - thank you for posting this!!!

Well, I have to admit. You have to take information with a grain of salt. Buy my 2013 F F SE, had that problem with the reverse. After changing my battery. I know nothing about Car mechanics, but I started looking here in KZfaq about this problem, and after seeing your video,I tried it and it worked!!! My reverse is working again as if nothing happened. I just want to thank you for posting this video. I don't know how you got to this solution but am glad. Am am going to contact the dealership about it ,maybe try can replace if that recall is still active? Best Regards!!

Thanks for this video mate, I'm sure it will help a lot out there. I bought a pre-owned 2012 focus from a dealer n the second year on faced this issue with scary messages like "engine malfunction, Transmission Failure" it would just disengage while driving but would start up the in a few mnts or the next day. Finally died n had to take it to FORD n it was the TCM & they replaced it free of charge. It's running like a dream now but the family n I had a year of HBP due to this, wish I'd seen this video earlier. God Bless.

I learned that this transmission works best in manuel. If you just shift manually it will run a lot smoother.

Ford Focus 2016 owner here. this trick worked for me. i had jump started the car and got this problem after it started it. apparently when the battery was down it disengaged the TCU. but let it charge for couple minutes and tried this trick and now the car goes back and forward normally like before.

My 2014 Foord Fiesta is giving a problem to start, have to start it in neutral at times for it to start when it driving it won't leave 1st gear and moving from gear one to two the car shake (slip up). if i try to accelerate too fast then the engine will rev and not more. once the car reaches 60kmp that i can drive normal. if i put the car in S-mode it will not let me manual change gears. also at times a warning message comes up and say "transmission hot wait 5 minutes" and "use brake stop safely" Please to advise me what is the problem and also if the "TCP" and "Clutch fork" need to change.

My 2016 Ford Fiesta is in the shop with 23,000 and one night it would not start, then it started and the message was Transmission Malfunction, they are fixing it but will it happen again...yuk

Hi I’m in the uk just taken mine into ford now they say here in the uk it’s only five years warranty but is that right in the USA it’s 10 years 150 k. My 2012 has only 43k on it it does actually what you say also drive mine the drive display goes out that’s when I know when I stop no gears cars still running thanks David Brewer

Having a similar issue, with on major exception. I have no backlights on my dash or center console. My car won't even turn over. All electronics including my key fob and manual locks will not work. I had my battery, alternator, and starter all checked (and they were all average or above average when tested). I need a jump every time this happens...and if I'm lucky my car will run 2-3 weeks before I randomly lose all power and need another jump. It's super frustrating, I'm afraid to even get gas or stop at the grocery store if my Wife is at work. I will certainly have to get my TCM replaced as well, as the transmission seems to slip and shudder..especially at lower speeds. Not very happy with this car. 2014 focus with 50,000 miles. I shouldn't be having this many issues with it.

I have a 2014 SE and scheduled a service with Ford for this Friday. Last week was my first check engine light in this car with 114000 miles on it. Surprising it lasted this long. I've been getting error code P090c every time. The car seems to skip second gear and not shift to the last gear. If I continue to drive it, shifting gets more erratic, I will lose reverse and, later, the car's transmission will overheat and it will tell me to pull over and turn off the car to cool down, after that it will be a bitch to start. If I make it home, I'll turn off the car (overnight for example) and starting it the next morning, it will miraculously fix itself and it will be as if there was zero problem; though the engine light will remain for a period and turn off. Happened 3 times and am really fed up with this problem and just hope that Ford will do the repair.

Update: There were two ground cables under the aribox that I didn't think to fix. Sanded and greased them and I ended up never having to go. The problem hasn't happened in a week and have traveled around 250 miles since. Super strange. The transmission still doesn't feel great, but I think less heavy accelerating has indeed helped. I'm not sure if the ground fix on those cables had anything to do with it, but no engine light since.

Been having this issue all week, I have tried to troubleshoot it, changed the ignition switch, checked the battery, starter, alternator, could hear the fuel pump come on and even checked all the fuses and relays. It finally dawned on me that the times it doesn't start, I will get the Hill Start Assist light come on which looks like the little-tilted car with lines under it and if it starts like that, it will read on the screen "Hill Start Assist Not Available". Suffice it to say that seemed odd to me, because the times it starts up normally, that light is not illuminated. If you put it in N and roll it slightly forward or backward...about the length of the car it will force the TCM to recognize the gear. In that case, you can just put it in park and just start it up. I can't get Ford to replace it under their warranty. The extended warranty is 10 years/ 150K miles. However, what they don't tell you is if they can not replicate the issue in the shop, they won't replace the part and will end up charging you for the diagnostic test for it, which seems pretty counter productive...you just encourge people to never bring it in until the TCM completely fails.

this is what happens to me too. it doesn't always do this. it sometimes just wont start, and usually after a few tries/minutes of trying, it'll start. but SOMETIMES it does say the "hill start assist not available" messege

I took mine recently and it took them 3 weeks to give the diagnostic. They told me that the clutch is bad and it was going to he 3000 to fix it smh im done with ford and i did not pay by the way.

Mine is 2012 just recently P0700 and P0702A has reverse but can’t go forward it used to but then it crapped the bed after driving 1 day after the transmission was bad

My 2013 Ford Focus died. Had to make a quick stop and I let the car run and come back out it died. When it dies the battery and oil light will show. I didn’t see this video until after I got home, but now my car is at a Walgreens sitting there and won’t turn on. Also it stutters and shakes after I get gas when I try to turn it on. Wish I would of done research on these cars. This is my first car too! Also financing it. Why would I want to keep paying it off if it has these shitty issues. I don’t want it anymore.

My 2014 Ford Focus has 3 ReCalls and its in the Ford Dealership Shop. The Door latches, Transmission Module and I called Ford for verification and there's no time limits on it because it's a Safety Problem. No charge...Free....

The TCM of my expedition 2019 is placed in stuiped place underneath the car exposed to stones and water with fragile plastic cover . It got water on it and damaged .The cost of it is 900$. Even ford F-150 TCM in same .Is this tough design ford !!!!!

Just had my vehicle towed to ford they called me and said they replaced the TCM. Everything was covered. They’ve also replaced my clutch before this and say they updated software to the transmission. It’s a 14 Ford Focus at 52,000 miles.

Angie Watts my 2013 in the shop now and they saying the pcm reading is showing no problem with my tcm I don't know what to ,I have a salvage title car and I was told I can't get in on the tcm warranty smdh

Fix is clean your ground wires remove paint from frame 1 ground from battery 2 grounds under airfilter case

Hey bud, I'm having the no start issues with my 2012 focus as well. did not buy it new, bought it from a used car dealership in September 2017 and no issues til about a month ago. have no other problems with the car except exactly what's happening in the vid except I haven't yet seen the dash say anything about the transmission yet. is the recall issues something they can fix now? and would it cost me or are they going to foot the bill? could I even take it in to get the problems fixed or not since I didn't buy the car new from ford?

Curtiss martin nope. Nothing. They didn’t fix it either. They had said they’d checked everything multiple times and just said they needed to change my fluids tank. It cost me $300 and they fixed nothing. I had to sell my car for $500 as a fixer for a class at a trade school

WIDOW Taken advantage of at dealership I took my recall letter and they said they need to charge for tearing down transmission. I refused told them to do recall letter stuff only. They didnt. Such a dangerous car. What should I do next the letter clearly states parts and labor covered all they did was a software update

Yes you shouldn’t have paid a penny. They took advantage at the fact you are a female. They owe you that money back or you can get serious legal help. Advisers are commission based and they don’t make anything from recalls. So they take advantage of people in most cases.

This is happening to me now! I’m so tried of this car! I have had nothing but problems since I’ve got it! My car is parked in my drive way and won’t start. I don’t have the money to take it and get it fixed or towed anywhere. The dealership wants $$$ to test it and make sure that’s the part. I’ve had so many run ends with this dealership. I just want to trade it in!

If iit is a manufacturer recall you should not have to pay for anything to include any troubleshooting. If you haven't done so already I strongly recommend to get the VIN# of your car and go to the following government website for recall information. www.nhtsa.gov/recalls. Once there you should see an area where you type your VIN# in. Hit enter and will bring up any recalls for your specific car and not just recalls for make and model. Better to use VIN#. It should tell you one way or the other on the website once you get your details pulled up. Finally contact your local Ford dealership and check in with them. Le t them know about the recall information you found. Each recall should have a number attached to it so ensure you write it down. They may know about it but it's better to have the information on hand. If your transmission issue is listed as one of the recalls tell them the number and say you are bringing it for the recall. They should verify it on their end . As far as the towing I am not sure but it wouldn't hurt to ask if it can be included as part of the recall repair cost, Especially since you can drive it even if yo wanted to. I hope this helps. Mines wouldn’t start but it also wouldn’t shift gears and of course they tell me it’s my clutch needs replaced than my transmission module and I’m pissed cause i ain’t had the car for more than 3 months

I’m having the same issue. Sometimes it won’t start and at the moment not shifting at all. Looked up some videos and it seems that the issue is the tcm as explained on this video.

I have a 2012 Ford focus also the transmission doesn't work like it should. It slipped and the rpm goes real high and skips some gears.the transmission they put in these cars are junk nothing but junk.

I had to get mine replaced at ~98k and its a 2014 focus se hatchback. Temp got to about the 3rd line on the gauge. I turn it off, get out and get met with the smell of hot/burnt trans fluid

Just today I cancelled a deal to buy a 2013 focus SE. It's not just one of the cars with this tranny, it's ALL of them -it can fail without warning at any time. Not a chance I'm buying this thing.

The 2018 Ford fiestas and Focus will get a redesigned power shift gearbox. Hopefully with the clutch pack oil leak finally solved and other things to. 2016 and 17 cars are better but will give you trouble sooner or later. That won't help people who own 2011-2017 models. Ford must test it products far better before releasing them to the public. This is embarrassing for them and in this day and age just stupid.

This is why you don't buy a Ford. Nobody should "hope" that a car made in 2018 won't have major issues (especially problems that have existed for YEARS in earlier models). I have an '08 civic and have had none of these issues ever (or any major ones really). I hear nothing but horror stories from my friends that have Focuses.

John Maier Sorry I never got back with you or anyone else I had a MECHANIC I know go pick up This "FORD LEMON" with flat bed and he took it to his place and YES the pushing the CAR FORWARD AND BACK DID GET IT TO START But the PROBLEM WITH THE CAR> YES THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULEREFLASH)=$197.35 TO PAY FORD TO DUE THE REFLASH (BEFORE HE STARTED WORKING ON IT HE WENT TO FORD AND TRYED TO GET THE COMPANY TO PAY FOR THIS AND IT WAS OVER MILEAGE THEY SAID SO IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS #FORD LEMON PROBLEM "I THINK FORD SHOULD PAY FOR EVERY FORD THAT HAS THIS PROBLE!!! (TO ME THAT IS LIKE SAYING IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE SPARE KEY THAT CAME WITH THIS CAR THEY WON'T FIX IT (IF YOU GOT ONE IN THE 1ST PLACE!)
